Vintage Derby/Bowler black felt hat made by J. Moores & Sons Ltd., England. Condition 10/10. No stains or discolouration on inside which suggests to me that it has never been worn.
The measurements are as follows:
HAT SIZE: 6-7/8 (small) The inside circumference measures
22 inches
HEIGHT: 5 inches
BRIM: 2 inches front & back turned up minimally on the
sides
It is quite light in weight
I have included a Hat Size Chart for your reference. My husband was reluctant to be my model as he has a large head and wears an Extra Large or 7-7/8 hat size so it literally sits on top of his head.
It appears to have been made for A. J. Freiman Limited to be sold in The Man’s Shop in Pembroke - Ottawa - Renfrew Ontario.
I have owned it for over 20 yrs., but have no knowledge of its history beyond that.
A bit of general History of the Bowler/Derby hat….
It was originally created in 1849 by London, England HST makers, Thomas & William Bowler. It is also known as a Coke hat, Billycock, Bob Hat, Bombin (Spanish) or Derby hat (United States). It is a hard felt hat with a rounded crown.
I thoroughly research all of my vintage items to determine a listing price, but I am always OPEN TO OFFERS.
