These glasses are a great collectors item, but also still to this day, one of the best, most functional glasses ever made. I encourage you to do your own research on the rigerous testing that Bausch & Lomb did with regard to not only their lenses, but also their frames, as space won't allow me to write everything.
They were created to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of B&L's original glasses created in the 1930s for military pilots, and made famous by General Douglas MacArthur; and they definitely outdid themselves. The 24k gold plating and added pearl brow bar and nose pads, elevate the already high level of extra style and sophistication to an already legendary pair of glasses. The frames are fully adjustable, and are quality stamped after they pass inspection as follows:
Top nose bridge- B&L Ray-Ban U.S.A.
Bottom nose bridge- B&L Ray-Ban 58[14 which corresponds to the size in mm of the lenses and the nose bridge itself. 58 being the smaller of the 2 versions of these glasses, which also came in 62.
Right temple: Inner- 1937-1987 Outer- Ray-Ban
Left temple: Inner- The General Outer- Ray-Ban
Both lenses are laser etched BL near the hinges, and the iconic Ray-Ban on the top right lens.
The frames certainly shine, but the lenses are the real show stopper. These glasses are outfitted with the classic RB 50 lenses. RB 50 lenses are photochromic, meaning they adjust their density (darkness) according to light and temperature. Please feel free to ask any questions, thanks!
