Antique 1850s Daguerreotype Wood and Resin Portrait Case w/ Velvet Lining This authentic and beautifully preserved antique vintage Daguerreotype captures a moment in time - a young mother with her toddler and young son, rendered in black and white with delicate hand-tinted rose colour to their cheeks. Daguerreotypes were the first publicly-available photographic processes, popular from the 1840s to the 1860s. These delicate images were protected by plush velvet lining, as seen in this fine example. The flocked cherry velvet shows wreaths, garlands, and a flowering urn at centre. The lovely ornate gold-toned embossed frame surrounds the little family portrait. The case itself has gorgeous gothic Victorian detail at front and back. This lovely piece is in wonderful condition for its age - there is some discolouration on the velvet interior and slight spotting to the protrait. The gold frame is fully intact with no pieces missing, and still bright and clean. The exterior case shows some wear, with a small repair to the upper-front-RH corner. The hinges are in excellent working order. The little hook to close the case is securely attached to the frame. Compact and highly decorative presentation piece for display or collection. Measures approx 8.3cm width, 9.4cm length, 2.5cm depth. This special treasure will be shipped with care in a velvet pouch.
