Here is a single Denby Arabesque Soup Bowl measuring 5.75" across and 2.5" deep. It is in excellent condition.
Originally Arabesque was titled Samarkand and started as a small set of giftware pieces designed by Gill Pemberton after a trip to Russia with her husband in 1962. That trip inspired the idea for the ochre red and golden hand painted floral decoration on a semi-matte deep brown glaze which she then developed further as it gained popularity. The design for Arabesque was bound to become a cultural icon of the 1960’s and 1970’s and continued in production for almost 20 years.
The Denby Arabesque design would have to be one of the 20th Centuries greatest dinnerware designs. Unlike many other dinnerware and production designs of this era Gill actually designed all the forms and the patterns – including the ergonomics of the handles and shape of the dinner plates.
