Original Miners Riveted Aluminum Lunch Box
This is a fabulous vintage piece.
A classic vintage lunch box of riveted aluminum invented in 1956 by Leo May, a nickel miner working in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. The industrial design was created to last; lightweight, yet strong enough to support a person's seated weight for an on-the-job lunch break. Each box was crafted entirely by hand until 1978 when demand necessitated a switch to automated production. These lunch boxes became standard for miners and construction workers and are now a classic.
