Designed by William Curtis and manufactured by Corning Glass Works, the Terra line was produced for a very short period from 1964 to 1965. The design features a distinct matte, earthy charcoal-brown finish accented with concentric tan or gold-toned rings on the lid and matching horizontal stripes on the bowl. It was purposely created to mimic the look of natural, hand-thrown earthenware pottery.
Because this unique matte finish was prone to scuffing and scratch marks (as seen slightly on this piece) and was expensive to produce, it was discontinued after only a year on the market. This brief production run makes it relatively rare and sought after by collectors today.
• Manufacturer: Pyrex (Corning Glass Works)
• Pattern Name: Terra
• Production Era: 1964–1965
• Care Note: Due to the metallic sheen of the gold/tan concentric rings, pieces from the Terra collection should never be used in a microwave or washed in a dishwasher, as it will damage the delicate matte surface and finish.
