mcleary1979 I am sorry for the short cuts and spelling in the description.. I sent a longer version of this in an email to PM... I had to cut it down to 500 characters on the description... Uggh I'm so aggravated right now....

mahalkita143 @mcleary1979 : Thank u for letting us know about this. I don't have any idea that they raise the sales tax. It's not worth it to buy in Posh anymore if this is the case!!! Shared!!!

poco
poco It depends on the state you live in. It's state mandated not Poshmark'. I live in New Hampshire where there is NO sales tax so I don't get charged tax. It varies from state to state.

mcleary1979
mcleary1979 @rose22 thank you we need to put a stop to this... eBay, ioffer and every other site like it does not charge sales tax, this is crazy and it is higher than my own state tax ;(

mcleary1979
mcleary1979 @poco I have been buying and selling on posh since November and never had to pay sales tax and neither did any of my buyers. If I wanted to buy your $275 shoes right now I would have to pay $25 in sales tax on top of that. I have bought and sold with many states from FL, CA, Indiana, Iowa, NY and many others. Try it now from someone's page hit the buy now button and I bet it will say 8.75% in sales tax

mcleary1979
mcleary1979 @mahalkita143 I know I just wanted to see what would happen if I want to buy something for $275 they are charging $24.67 for tax plus shipping... I hope there is some kind of glitch in the system but that is crazy I have bought 20 different things and sold about 10 and no sales tax before.... We need to put a stop to this because its crazy especially on used items..

poco I bought an item this morning. I don't get charged it. New Hampshire is one of only a few states with no sales tax so no matter where I purchase online no site c an charge it to me. Sometimes if I'm out of state shopping I'll have the store ship it to my home to avoid sales tax! Benefit of living in this cold weather! HahA. I know it's annoying! Someone bought something from my daughter and said the same thing that they had to pay sales tax. But Poshmark doesn't keep it. It's a state fee. Just like any stire in your state that charges yiu a sakes tax they dint keeo it! It gies ti the state! Get a PO box in NH I guess! Lol. But we have killer property tax! Anyway I was just giving you an FYI. Email posh they'll tell you. Lucky me in cold NH I guess!! Happy shopping!

missniki I tried buying this post and also did not get charged sales tax and I live in California. Weird! I wonder if it has to do with the type of phone you have? A glitch in the app? I have a 4S....
Feb 16Reply
mahalkita143
mahalkita143 @missniki : What part of CALI? I have they same phone as you have. Wait let me check my recent purchase if they charge me a sales tax. Maybe is just a system error!

mcleary1979 @lhy yes I am in NJ and they are trying to charge me 8.75% tax to buy something but I never got charges before hmmm ????
Feb 16Reply
lhy
lhy That's interesting. I think CA also pays tax. I'm sure it's based on federal regulations that PM follows as a business but that would definitely keep me from making purchases, I could just go to the mall!

styledbyjadie
styledbyjadie I've been using poshmark for a year now and have always been charged sales tax. I live in Cali. Throughout the year I tell my sellers that I pay tax and many tend to not believe me. It's true though. You're lucky yours just started. I've never had the chance to purchase something for $100 and only pay $100 + shipping. It has always been closer to $120
Feb 16Reply
kwistenm
kwistenm I have always gotten charged sales tax on here, it's state mandated. CA requires it. It just happened last summer but if you purchase on Amazon and live in CA you will also get charged. It sucks. It's already so expensive to live here! But it's not PM's fault. They are just following the rules...

mcleary1979
mcleary1979 @lisaboliaris hey where did you hear that from? Send me your email where I have sent them long emails with facts from the State of NJ website showing we are not supposed to be taxed and I have been ignored for weeks and received dumb answered from them that both times did not make any scene they contradicted themselves one person said oh it goes by the state you live in which NJ sales tax is 3% & 7% depending on where you live not 8.74% plus the fact that we don't pay tax on clothes here. If you have an email from Posh Mark stating they are giving the tax back to every one except people who live in CA, can you send it to me at mcleary1979@msn.com? I would love to see it. I stopped buying things on here because of this tax issue and then they went and changed the shipping to 2 pounds which is crazy because a pair of boots is over 2lbs to ship. If I want to buy a $30 pair of boots with the new shipping and tax it would cost me $30 + $9 shipping + $2.84 tax so I have to spend almost $42 dollars that's crazy lol. Thanks again I look forward to hearing from you.

xtine22
xtine22 I also am in so cal & get charged 8.75% sales tax. I think it sucks they change 20% fee on used items n top of sales tax AND they lowered the weight on our items and lessened it by ONE freaking penny. No wonder lots of posh members use PayPal! This is nuts!

aspatel86
aspatel86 I just paid $5 for shipping and an extra $3 in taxes. What is this fuckery?!?! I just started using ebay and I think I'm going to start listing most of my high end items there...PM is basically STEALING money from us whether we buy or sell!!!

andloshet
andloshet Any buyers who live in the same area as poshmark headquarters, or are having their item mailed to a resident in that location, will have to legally pay sales tax because that's where their "brick and mortar" location is. So it looks as though people in Southern California have to do so. It's not a decision made by posh, they legally have to do that, even on used items just like a vintage or second hand store would. I'm by no means a fan of poshmark anymore given their lack of customer service, ridiculous 20% cut and the fact that scammers are running rampant on here with little to no consequences, but in this case they are just abiding by the state laws and ordinances.

ladyrubyboo
ladyrubyboo It is illegal to make anyone, from any state, pay tax on used items. Somebody, theoretically, already paid taxes on it. Therefore only items that are new can be charged with tax. Also, I live in Portland and they aren't allowed to charge sales tax. We don't have a sales tax.
