I have seen SOOO MANY FAKES on Posh and have seen several people trying to sell bags which they got scammed on. Please keep the following in mind: date codes (pre 2007 vs. post 2007), "made in" tags (not all LVs are made in France), dust bags, if the bag was ever made by LV (many fakes aren't even replicas of real bags) Please go to this guide before buying: http://www.ebay.com/gds/louis-vuitton-is-this-authentic-part-1/10000000000021258/g.html DONT GET SCAMMED LADIES!!! ๐๐๐๐

@nanobunny hi! How do u find the date code? I'm not even sure what I'm looking for or what a date code consists of. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
Jun 04Reply

nanobunny
@lliizz97 Hi hun! One of the ways that LV tries to prevent fakes is to have a date code. This is a two letter and four number code printed on the inside of the bag. The first two letters indicate where the bag was manufactured (not all LVs are made in France, so you want to make sure that the location and "made in..." correspond. The four digits indicate the date of manufacturing. There is a more in-depth discussion of this in the article above, but if the bag was manufactured post 2007, the first and third digit indicate the week and the second and fourth indicate the year. Here is a more informative article: http://www.ebay.com/gds/louis-vuitton-date-code-amp-production-explanation-guide/10000000001240265/g.html. Hope that helps love!! xoxo

@nanobunny thanks! It the date code usually easily found? Or in a particular place on most bags or wallets? Thanks for all the info!
Jun 04Reply

gettumgirl
@lliizz97 @nanobunny ...it's also good to know...not all vintage Louis Vuitton have date codes...there is soooo much to know because..not all date codes are authentic ..the knock offs are now stamping date codes in too!!...the interior of all designer bags tells you a lot about if it's a knock off...flimsy hardware wrapping on the hardware..there are a lot if dead giveaways...but some are not...really just do your homework...if you google in how to authenticate say my gucci..Louis Vuitton ..or anything you want authenticated...there are plenty of tools out there to help you...also YOUTUBE...is great!!!!!

marly911
You can always send pics to purse forum for authentication.
Jun 04Reply

nanobunny
@marly911 Thanks hun! I was going to suggest that. Or meeting at a location that sells LVs to have it authenticated before making the purchase. xoxox @lliizz97
Jun 04Reply

lliizz97
@nanobunny thanks for all the great information!!
Jun 04Reply

nanobunny
@gettumgirl Yup! that is so true! Like I said, if there is a date code following that format, you do have to make sure that the date makes sense in terms of the time they switched oner (2007). And, yes, I totally agree with you! I must say that I hate when people try to see a "real" LV and it has plastic wrapping on the handles. Also, the color of the leather on the handles is usually a good indication as well. Like I mentioned above, the link: http://www.ebay.com/gds/louis-vuitton-date-code-amp-production-explanation-guide/10000000001240265/g.html explains ALL of the date codes. I don't have a problem with people buying fakes (even good one) as long as they KNOW they are fakes. Thanks hun! xoxox
Jun 04Reply

nanobunny
@lliizz97 Not a problem hun! I would say if you are going to buy and LV online, I would do a local buy and authenticate at a store if you can. If the seller doesn't want to do that, its a pretty good indication that the purse is probably not real. Hope it helps love! xoxox

@nanobunny Thanks for this!! Also, you can get your LV bag authenticated at mypouchette.com. They helped me out in a LV bag sell. I had bought one on eBay and got ripped off. I listed the bag on posh and another seller thought it might be real. It was an excellent genuine leather inspired handbag. Very well made. So I went to mypouchette to find out. I took the risk of paying $50 for them to authenticate it, but would have been worth it if it was authentic. Turned out, I was right about it being an inspired bag. I was able to sell it for what I paid, the buyer was well informed it was authentic and she loves it!! I think the best thing is to educate yourself and then be truthful about whether it is authentic or not. Great thing you are doing here!!๐๐๐
Jun 06Reply

nanobunny
@joe3angie Thank you so much hun! I will try to put up a link with that website as well. I knew there were websites that authenticate, but was not sure which are reliable! I'm hope that people will share this listing an be more informed before spending hundreds or more on a bag that may just be a very good fake. Thank you for the link and the love! ๐โค๐โค๐๐
Jun 06Reply

joe3angie
@nanobunny You're so sweet! I forgot to mention that the $50 fee was for same day authentication. If you're willing to wait, the rates are less than that. If the item is authenticated, they give you it in writing so you have the proof. Also, you can get their backing as a seller if you sell a larger volume of items by getting a "trusted mypoupette seller" logo. I think they do other designers as well. Hope that helps!!

@nanobunny hi. Quick question- I have a men's Epi Louis Vuitton authentic wallet bought about ten years ago by my daughter in a Louis Vuitton store in New Jersey. I have looked all over the wallet and don't see any date code on this men's wallet , do you have any idea where it is? I may need magnifiers if that hard to spot! Lol๐
Dec 27Reply

nanobunny
@cheekbones Hi hun! I am actually not 100% sure about where the date codes are located on men's wallets. From what I understand all LV goods should have a date stamp (unless they are vintage). The only advice I could give would be to bring it into the LV store (or a store which sells LV) and have them check it out, they should be able to advise you as to where is it located or how to authenticate the wallet. I'm sorry I could not be more help!! ๐
Dec 29Reply

cheekbones
@nanobunny thanks for your input. This is vintage and like new. I will bring to a Louis Vuitton store to see if they can find if stamped anywhere. I know it is authentic as my daughter bought for her Dad as a gift and she says she can smell the real ones and does not carry anything fake or inspired. She once ordered an LV collectible from Hawaii and paid more than retail because she could not get here- I created a monster! Lol

@nanobunny hi I wonder if you can give me advice on a problem My daughter purchased a Louis Vuitton Taiga black Louis Vuitton wallet for my husband over 10 years ago . It is a discontinued style and he put away and maybe used 3 times and while going thru boxes he just found again and I put on site, I tried going into the Louis Vuitton store in New Jersey to authenticate for a posher and they told me they are not allowed to do so or they will be fired - I even offered to pay but they said they could not with out a receipt which after 10 years I do not have. He also said date codes rub off with age on this leather. Is there any way I can authenticate for posher. Any suggestions appreciated๐๐
Jan 16Reply

nanobunny
@cheekbones I'm so sorry to hear that they would not do it for you! I have not used one myself, but you could try an authentication service. You can google them and see if there is one in your area, or maybe one online. I hope this helps a bit! I'm so sorry I couldn't be of more help!! ๐๐๐
Jan 16Reply

nanobunny
@cheekbones I just did a quick search for the location of the date code in the Taiga wallet and from the looks of it, it should be on the inside (where the bills go). You can check the images on google to see if maybe that will help to find the location of it on the wallet๐
Jan 16Reply

@nanobunny thanks for all your help- I was annoyed Re Louis Vuitton store ,as I have been a customer there in the past, but the salesman told my husband they can not even say verbally if real or fake and can get fired for doing so. I see no date code, but he said after so many years that date codes can fade in this type of leather as there are no tabs or any metal to use for other identification purposes. I really don't want to spend 50 dollars on this as I am only asking for 260 as my lowest price and posh takes 20 per cent so that does not make too much sense to me either, thanks for your help though, I guess posher will have to either trust my word or not buy๐

Ladies I get you don't know who has to make all these fake bags? The poor little kids overseas in the sweatshops..... I found this out two weeks ago on Katie Couric . They were talking about how yo spit a fake and all the crap that gives along with them . So if your buying or selling fakes your supporting and making those poor kids work their behinds off.... And get paid nothing for it as well. Ok please stop this from happening... DONT SELL OR BUY FAKES !!!

@aroseindec I have posted this so other people can know what to look for as well - as Iโm not an expert on LV, but there seem to be so many fake bags with people either trying to sell as not knowing or actually not knowing themselves. Jan 21Reply

@nanobunny without the date code itโs really hard to say either way. The interior lining looks off, but without knowing the year it was made thereโs no way to tell as theyโve changed the lining pattern over the years. The font on the heat stamp follows the โrulesโ but still looks off to me, just canโt place why. Everything on the exterior seems to line up with a real NF, but not having a date code is def a big concern. It may have fallen off, but the bag may also be a replica.
Jan 21Reply

nanobunny
@aroseindec thank you so much! I too thought something was off, to me it was star age that the squares that say Louis Vuitton line up with the handles, which I havenโt seen before. Thanks again for all of your help!

Doesnโt Poshmark authenticate for free? I sold an LV bag earlier this year that I provided original box, dust bag and receipt and Poshmark authenticated before sending to buyer. Is that a good way for ladies to know they are buying a real LV?
