busylizzie I own several vintage and newer bags that I've purchased at the CHANEL stores both in Paris, Europe, and the U.S. I can say that the rules above are for more recent handbags not for vintage. The bags I have from the 70's-early 90's vary. The 90's bags have auth. Numbers but the earlier models I own and my sisters/mother own do not. You can, however, tell the high quality of the stitching and craftsmanship on my vintage. That is why I don't know if I will ever part with them..even though I am sometimes tempted in here to let a few go! They are so timeless that they are worth every penny! Good luck!

hilleliza These are nice tips but don't apply exclusively to all Chanel bags. My biggest recommendation would be to examine and feel real Chanel in person. Once you become familiar w the quality of this label, you will realize it is absolutely impossible to be duped into buying a fake. I have never ever encountered a "copy" that was actually good enough to trick someone who has true firsthand experience w Chanel. Good luck!

busylizzie @chrisvirgo yes. The stitching has to line up and in the older vintage bags the cushioned look on the lambskin will lie flatter than when brand news if it's super puffy then I would question it. Also, as lambskin is so delicate, I always keep the chains INSIDE of the handbag so it won't damage the exterior. That is how CHANEL tells you to properly store them. My brand new lambskin wallet I got for Mother's Day did not come with a dustcover. So some items will only come in the boxes with a cloth-like material over it. My Husband bought it at the Rodeo Drive store for me and I love it's vintage look!!😍 My older handbags are awesome and I always get more compliments on them than my new ones.

cryoung301 I’ve seen fakes so good you can’t tell and they’ve been authenticated. If you can afford a $10000 bag whybuy off Poshmark? Makes no sense when you can buy one from actual Chanel store or Neiman’s. Seen listings here where bag is listed as “rare” or “one of a kind” and that same bag is sitting inside Chanel shop for almost same price. Maybe something’s wrong with me but it don’t get it. Even worse some authentic bags failed PM Authentication and seller’s account was blocked. What a joke
