I never ever wear fakes. My gay uncle told me when I was 12: "Be true to you & only purchase what u can afford. Never use fakes because people will know. Then one day when u do have the real thing, everyone will still think it's a fake--U will lose credibility." Hs words left a lasting impression on me. (Although I do have an ugly Coach/Burberry knockoff on my page that were hand me downs from my another relative that I refused to use from day 1 & just wanna get rid of! LOL.)

But I'm with u on the whole not supporting child labor thing. Also these counterfeits have been linked to terrorism & illegal drugs. Part of me feels like many people are oblivious to the negative repercussions of purchasing fakes.

For all the above reasons, plus really who does anyone think they are fooling? LV fakes are everywhere on here, along with Louboutin, Balenciaga, Chloe, etc etc etc. If a person cannot afford the real deal, it's perfectly ok to carry or wear something else! There are plenty other designers that make beautiful items for less $. I had to save for the items I have-I buy certain designers because of the quality and because they fit who I am as a person. I could ramble on and on 😊 But you know what I mean 🌺

The key is she knows how to dress well & understands what flatters her. Because of that, she can make a $50 outfit look "high end." Then I see people in raggedy, outdated clothing carrying an LV bag & I think, "Um, you look silly!" 😁

@mrsmandi Yup, its non stop and rampant on here and many other online sale sites. All I can say to buyers is to DO YOUR HOMEWORK on brands that are known to have counterfeit copies of them out there. Know the signs. Some fakes are better than others, while some are downright horrid to look at upon first glance. Keep up the fight girl!

Love this..especially the 2nd pic!! This is one of my biggest problems on here and other sites. I've had a big mouth about it and have been told I'm a 'fat cat' because I say it's not right for people to buy/sell them. No matter how many times you say it's illegal and can get arrested it just doesn't sink in. And you're right about ones who complain on here that their listing got removed. You hear, well there are so many on here so why did they pull mine. 2 wrongs don't make a right!! I don't get why someone would want to own a fake if they can't afford the real..a lot of them aren't even beautiful bags. If more people knew what went in to making them maybe they'd stop..but I always think that about furs too and they still sell. I love seeing people who feel the same about counterfeit junk!

When I couldn't afford the lines that I love now, I saved up for simple and classic styles by lower end designers. Or I carried vintage! I ask if real the answer I got was I should know by the price they were not real diamonds. I also saw a black bag that has a Chanel tag and emblem. I ask if they could take a photo of the serial number. They said it did not have one. So I said I guess that explains why is $80 versus $900. $80 for a fake bag is still expensive. Thankyou for posting this! What's funny too is that it really isn't a matter of budget. You can get a gorgeous second hand authentic designer handbag in perfect sharp here on posh for as much as you would pay for a decent looking knock off! Also, I recently read in Newsweek that many of these factories that produce these fake bags overseas are actually owned by terrorist organizations! So by buying these things you are actually helping to fund terrorism! Sounds extreme but I did a little background check and its true!

@mangrami exactly!! I have a few bags that I purchased gently used for a great deal. Some bags IMHO actually look better the more you carry them (Balenciaga) so the previous owners did all the work for me making them slouchy and gorgeous and broken in.

@susanleeyogi I could not agree more! I just started getting into higher end bags, and am looking for a gently used Balenciaga Motorcycle bag or Chloe Paddington. As I am searching through Posh and EBay I finding so many fake bags. My pet peeve is when they label them as authentic but if you scroll through the comments they will admit it's a "high quality inspired bag" once you read through the comments. UGH, I have wasted so much time going through all the fake listings, it's crazy to me people are selling inspired items for $200-$300. And crazier people actually buy it.

FYI for all ladies looking to authenticate anywhere-this is what you need. I copied this from The Purse Fourm (I am a longstanding active member).
WHAT IS NEEDED TO GIVE YOU THE MOST ACCURATE AUTHENTICATION OPINION:
Large and clear pictures of:
Front and back of the bag
Front and back of the inside tag
Bale (curved metal hardware that attaches the strap to the bag)
Rivet (round metal stud on the back of the handle with usually 2 notches in it unless it's an earlier model)
Front buckles
In general, you need as many detailed pictures as possible.
I cannot authenticate if photos are:
blurry
dark
tiny
Tips for taking good photos:
do not use flash or zoom
use MACRO setting (indicated by flower on digital cameras)
use natural light if possible
use a steady hand!

A Tiffany necklace and a Michael Kors bracelet. I'm kind of silly - if I like something I may buy several in different colors - for me and for Mom. So I had several real MK bracelets to compare. And for Tiffany, well, it was obvious ... But I also had a real one from my own store purchase and the comparison wasn't even close. Since then, I think I'm close to guru status on Tiffany ...the ladies at the store spent a lot of time with me and tho you have to pay a lot for a real authentication process thru them, they are a wealth of knowledge and basically gave me enough info to set it straight. I haven't purchased more Tiffany's on PM since... But I may down the road.

@andine Hah! I had the same thing happen! I am pretty up to snuff on Tiffany as well, and had a 10mm bead necklace that I wanted to grab the matching bracelet for. So I scoured eBay (before posh) and found one that the photos looked pretty legit. I get it and its a nasty fake. The lady was all pissy and defensive, even when I politely pointed out the problems. I was refunded immediately tho. So now I don't do that anymore. 😊❤ I actually got accused of selling a fake bag on here! A Tylie Malibu bag-not a huge designer. I literally lost it-nothing is more disrespectful to me on here than being accused of selling fakes. I was livid! In the end, it was total buyers remorse and Posh sided with me. If you look at my sold listings at the black Tylie bag you can see the drama. 😁

Wow. At least Poshmark can help make it right!! I had another Tiffany bracelet that was (I think) fake and confronted the seller, nicely, about it. She was very upset, started posting on various listings, getting other buyers of hers to tag me...I was very new to Posh and nearly shut my closet down...I don't like drama! I told her we could agree to disagree and I ate the $100+ for the bracelet. Another time I got a Tory Burch wrap bracelet and had been assured it was real. But there was no "made in USA" stamped inside, all my others have that. I asked her and she said it's a dark brown leather so you just probably can't see it. I let it go. There is clearly no stamp. I guess just 4 fakes in all the purchases I've made is a good record. I've heard of others getting a lot of fakes. The more questions, the more research you do ahead the better, right?! I also have no problem blocking. Once I get a fake, that's it. I don't want to see the rest. 😉

But on here it's a different story. Posh needs to look into a way for sellers to remove harassing posts. And they need to get their asses in gear and really crack down on all these counterfeits. @gabby0704 Hi dear! Oh that does happen-sometimes we just end up with counterfeit goods. As far as getting rid of it goes, on Posh, counterfeits are not allowed. Believe me there are plenty on here tho! So many I can imagine its hard for them to keep up with deleting listings. Same goes for other selling venues. If your bag however is just "inspired"-that's a different story. To be an inspired bag (or any inspired item), the bag may looks in style like the real thing but it may 💥NOT💥not have any labeling or tags or logos from the designer. If this is the case with your bag, you can sell it as long as you make no reference at all to the designer that inspired it in your listing, and you let people know up front that it is inspired, you can sell it. If it does have logos or labeling, in any shape or form, then it is an illegal replica, and cannot be sold. You could donate it 🌸

Loveeeee this. Think it's so great you make yourself available to assist on identifying fakes. I recently got blocked from someones closet for asking too many questions on a bag, geez! Makes me wonder what I was dealing with. The worst thing (in my opinion) is that our culture of "keeping up with the Jones'" invalidates all those reasons. I myself don't support replicas/fakes. Not they only look cheap but they are ruining the designers name. I mean, if you can't afford the real thing why not save and get the real one since you're already spending money on it right? I love this post of yours! I would rather have something handcrafted, gently carried or "indie brand" if my budget didn't allow for brand new designer. The bags in my current small collection are my lifetime keepers, trends be damned. I think one of the main reasons fakes flourish is because people want to have the "bag of the moment" yet their budget doesn't allow that, so they go the fake route without thinking about all the negativities that shroud counterfeit goods. 😣

@peteandlucy I can't say anything about TB from experience because I've never owned a piece from the brand, but I'd just say to submit your items to AuthenticateFirst.com or a similar site. You can get your items authenticated for $15. Just make sure to pay through Posh, 🅿️🅿️ inv (very good service, I've gotten my money back many times) or e Bay. If anything goes wrong, you are always protected. Signs of counterfeit bags are usually obvious as well. The material will feel worse in quality immediately and small details will help identify as well. You can visit forums online where women compare their real and fake bags :)

@realfaux @peteandlucy I second what Gabrielle says-go to a reputable site and provide plenty of pictures. I have not owned any TB so I cant be of much help in that brand. Also now on Posh if the item you buy is 500 or over, the seller needs to send it to poshmark authenticators. They will double check the bag and see if there are any issues. I hope they have some qualified staff-there are plenty of fakes on Posh sadly :-(

@balgal2 I report all the time-now they do offer an authentication service to all purchases over 500 for designers. Sometimes they remove, sometimes they dont. its unfortunate.

@susanleeyogi - wish Posh Concierge covered all items. Isn't it only up to $500? I search "Balenciaga" all the time and a plethora of FAKE bags pop up. They are still there after I report again & again as well. At least we can warn buyers too!! There are enough of us that can give our "opinion" and help with the bags that are "better" yet awful, counterfeits.

@dellamoore yes I wish they did too! Many onlinesale sites fail to take down counterfeits-Ive reported so many. Some have been thankfully removed, others have not. All you can do is send customer service an email with the listing and hope they respond. Keep on reporting!!

I hate when someone says "excellent quality" inspired shoe when it's really a counterfeit (inspired shoes carry their own brand and don't try to pass themselves off as the original designer) The shoes are imported from overseas and are manufactured by CHILDREN! I'd rather pay a fortune for something made by someone making a living wage than $150 for a knock-off where an exploited person makes about a third of a single dollar and the rest is pocketed by a$$hats! 😡

I sent an. Email to copyright to warn about. A fake Balenciaga that the seller keeps saying she's getting an authenticity certificate for. It's so obviously fake. I hate to see that it sold. Will poshmark intercede after the sale? I listed and documented the the numerous issues with the bag. I wanted to warn the buyer, but I didn't know if you are allowed to do that. Nothing upsets me more than liars about fake bags , and people losing money on this garbage.

Anyone seeing counterfeit products, please go to tips.fbi.gov and report it. They investigate all tips and will prosecute the sellers, and can prosecute the buyers if they willingly purchase counterfeit goods. One selling fake Louis Vitton here is panora214, her descriptions don't list them as fake but she admits they are in the comments. She just sold one and has been reported not only to Posh but also the FBI

The person from whom you have recently purchased is being investigated by the FBI, do you really want to be dragged into this? Mendozajenn is selling a fake 04 C tag first. Wants trades , so as to avoid authentication, I fear. There was no light blue made in spring summer 04 C tag. The 925 symbol is too large, the shape of the first is off and odd, the bales are hidden in the photo of shoulder strap. There are other telltale signs. I tried to kindly inform her, assuming she was unaware. She stared swearing at me, someone look at this please who is familiar with older bags

Mendozajenn@lld Wow, you posted the detailed photos that prove it's fake. All balenciaga have black thread across the top, anyone can look at many of the other bags here that are real and see that. The bales straight, not curved as they should be, the font is wrong, and Balenciaga never made a light blue in spring summer 2004 season, which is what the C on the tag indicates. The 925 symbol is oversized, the bag is fake, no doubt

The selling of counterfeit items if a federal offense. There have actually been companies that come after sellers for doing so. There was a man a few towns away from me who made thousands selling counterfeit handbags at a local flea market. Someone reported him and he is still sitting in prison. This post is great!

Too bad she deleted the initial exchange claiming she sold the bag, you would see where all I did was ask for pics, which you need several of with an oldie, even the rivets, bales, buckles, etc. any real seller shouldn't mind posting all pics required to authenticate. Reign asked for some more pics too and she went ballistic.

The bag is one that is widely faked though, so you have to be extra careful. The older ones are usually not conterfeited so well, but the emerald 03 was.

I just purchased a FAKE Michael Kors and frankly Im disgusted with the, "I got it as a gift," line! Its ILLEGAL. PERIOD. It's 100% true.. These FAKES Fund Terrorist Groups, Child traffickers, Drug Cartels, and more, especially in Mexico and CHINA.. Stop buying them, stop selling them. I was going to post a link to the bag here, so others could chime in that know balenciaga, so,that they could also tell you it's a fake, that was removed, and you relisted, but it looks like it was removed again. I know older Bals....it is fake.

@zinfandel555 I was looking at clarelyell's bag and was thinking about it (would have been my first Bal & I knew I could get it authenticated before I accepted if I wasn't 100%) but something about the font of the silver tag and the bale shape kept nagging at me so I passed. Then I saw your comments and was glad I did - saved me a lot of time and hassle. Thank you 😊 Someone did buy it, you can see her commenting to the buyer in the listing.

Question since I'm new to Poshmark what happens if you buy something and use the Concierge Service and the item is found not be authentic ..... Do they still send it to you or do they send the item back to the seller ?

@liloprag as far as I know they send it right back to the seller and refund the buyer. At least I hope they do! That's the right thing to do. Personally I would destroy the item (I know in the past this has occurred on other sites) but I doubt they do that.

@mmforrester blocking me makes no difference, that bag was never authenticated. The shape,is wrong, the font on tag is wrong, the color is no where near turquoise of 04, which is supposed to be a lighter color. It's just all wrong in every way. Who authenticated it?
Pleas get that fake bag off Poshmark and save your reputation as a seller. Don't just make up,things to justify.

Blocking me simply confirms that you are a questionable seller that does not want qualified members to review the authenticity of your items. Sellers that aren't trying to pass off fake goods welcome scrutiny, and don't have any problem with their items being reviewed.

You've had amble opportunity to post tag photos, up close, pics of the bales and rivets, and the other things any qualified autheticator looks for,on a balenciaga handbag.

There is a woman selling a fake Balenciaga. She sold it once and when the buyer received it she (the buyer) called her out on it being fake. Now the woman has the bag relisted again! I have reported this listing many times and it hasn't been taken down. Very frustrating when I'm trying to sell an authentic bal almost the same color as her gross fake. Get the shoes and I swear they were plastic soles with a really bad Medusa head engraved in it. 😢😢😢 I paid used Versace prices too. PM was helpful and got it resolved. Just took awhile...Never again!

"Inspired", "high quality", "price reflects" are all annoying besides the ones who blatantly lie. What kills me is replica sellers who tscam replica buyers...300-400$ for A FAKE?! Especially the horribly obvious fake multicolore LV's that we're $40 China town knock offs in 2005, and now being sold 3x the price as mirror image replicas 😂

I thought most fakes were horribly obvious, but I see a lot of them being sold for hundreds of dollars in terrible pre owned condition...the way that fake leather shreds apart on handles and straps should be a big sign. But if people are new collectors and aren't familiar with how high end bags age, I guess there's no way to know better!

Does posh ask you and others like you to validate authenticity? I ask since, I feel like they don’t have a legitimate authentication team and rather ask individuals they feel should know as in people who have been here or may have sold the most items not necessarily having knowledge on urban brands or all high end things mainly as in the men’s departments and urban and “hype” items such as supreme, off white, vlone, and other brands in that category.
