justask @susu49 such a good thing. My son has high functioning. Meaning he's to smart for his own good. I am a lucky one where he has learned how to cope with it. I think god everyday. But has sever depression. 😕
Mar 24Reply
susu49
susu49 @jusstask. Tony will turn 16 this next weekend! He is medium functioning but is experiencing some depression! He's funny and cute and will always be our baby! Hate that your son is depressed! I guess it "comes with the territory"! Tony is upset that he can't drive!!!! Oh how I love that child!!! My heart has always ached for him!

justask @susu49 I will see if you still have it when my funds clear. I think my son will like it. He does not tell anyone much about his life nor his grades 4.0. Nobody knows. He does not want to be labeled by others. He over comes it all. He took state this year in wresling & your son will graduate 😊. Because, yes they get frustrated but they don't back down. 💐
Mar 24Reply
susu49
susu49 @justask I hope you are right! He is stubborn (a little). He gets what he wants most of the time !
Mar 24Reply
justask
justask @susu49 I am. I always knew my son had it but there is nothing no cure or MEDS. He had a speech impermanent too but he has learned to think before he speaks. Can't tie his shoes, just learned to ride a bike but hey - he passed his driving test without opening a book. He just can't do the small things. Just don't push to hard like I did. I feel as if I put him in a depression state of mind but they say he's always had it. Now I just set back and I watch because he is harder on himself then I ever could be. We are learning together 😊 & it's very hard for us both.
Mar 24Reply
susu49
susu49 @justask Tony has always been very verbal and he is very articulate and has a huge vocabulary! Can't read! He's learning by texting! Just now learned to tie his shoes! He is very literal and doesn't always "get" the joke!
Mar 24Reply
susu49
susu49 @justask How old is your son?
Mar 24Reply
justask
justask @susu49 he just turned 17. It's because they don't understand when someone is joking or criticizing them. My son has practiced and learned in a mirror how to smile & everything. My son does not understand human emotion they said "he may look happy seem happy but he can't feel happiness - he never will. He does not liked to be touched unexpectedly. He can feel in pithy for others and sadness - always wanting to help another w/there problems. There is just so much. But the last year w/teenage hormones it's been bad. He wants to be free but yet he has to follow a schedule or he will get so frustrated. I'm not to sure how he can have his freedom -when in his own head he needs this schedule. But over all he seems normal you just have to really know him to see anything is wrong with him. He had no social skills as a young child until about 15 & never even noticed he only had 2 friends. He now in high school hides it all too well. He has learned how to just pretend or something. But he still had ticks, bangs on his head when he's frustrated, can hear ever noise and becomes over whelmed - but hides it all. He has to have his clothing lined up by color & don't get him anything new or he will walk it out to the trash can. It's just so much but I know him inside & out others just don't understand.
Mar 24Reply
susu49
susu49 @justask They sound so much alike except where they are on the spectrum! Tony does not allow anyone to hug him buy me! He is sure he's going to date and eventually marry and have children! So many more disappointments ahead .....
Mar 24Reply
justask
justask @susu49 maybe not. He will just have to find someone that understands him & excepts him. Yea my son is number 23 in GPA out of 428 students. He was upset cuz he was not number 1. Man I would of killed to be number 23 - he will have 4 certifications CNA, Pharmacy tech, dental ass & something else by the end of next year & he's only a sophomore ( bday runs in Jan) that's why. His therapist said he was smarter then her lol.. He now refuses therapy says once a week she will never know him like I do. And he's tired if flipping the cards making her answer her own questions.! He's amazing. Tony will be too. He will soon learn with age. Like I said my kid still can't tie his shoes. But I would give anything for his brain.
Mar 24Reply
susu49
susu49 @justask Tony just needs a service/friend! He had one friend and he doesn't live here! They are just/alike! They have their own communication! We can't understand it! It's like they are Martians! Fun to watch!
Mar 24Reply
justask
justask @susu49 I know the feeling my son had a friend in 3rd grade who did not talk but yet they communicated it was odd. Then in 9th grade we moved back & he ran into that kid & he still don't talk but they have breakfast together every morning. It's amazing.

bluidvll @susu49 absolutely candy, fun things for dinner, crafts and things like kids show that is here once a year, corn mazes and other events on holidays! Stay up late laughing and telling stories or playing board games like Life, or cards. That way when they are home they will be bored and whining about, just as my son used to do when he was a boy. Our grandchildren are Gods way of saying I told ya so and where we just sit back and smile! My grandkids are angels at my house because we do fun things and they know if they were not good I would just take them back home. Lol 😀😀😀

He amazes me everyday and I'm proud to be his mom. We've worked very hard with services, therapists ... My whole family work all day everyday to help him and the difference from 2 1/2 years old to now is astounding. Thank you for your story and all you do. susu49 @cclements79. Thank YOU for being one of the many unsung heroes for special needs students! Tony graduated from high school last week and will continue on with his education through Project Search! It is sponsored by a special needs school in Little Rock, AR and our famous UAMS (University of ArKansas Medical Sciences). Only a few kids were awarded the opportunity to expand their world!!! Many more are uncertain and confused about their futures in these Crazy Times! Keep on keeping on!
