I would like to address a few concerns of mine. The "proper etiquette" of a sales person. You do see them encourage you to buy - it's their job. But you will find the technique isn't "Are you interested?" It's talking up the benefits and advantages of a product, telling you the current promotion (i.e 20% off, BOGO, 50 off 100, etc), thanking you for coming in, etc.

Another AMEN from me! Hate those things. I've gotten to the point where I will unlike items I've liked if someone asks if I am "interested?" If someone thanks me, that's one thing. 😊

@criss459 so agree!! Although I must say I've been lucky and have only gotten one or two "interested?" after a share. Happens all the time after a like, which is why I hardly ever like anything because I feel bad that I am getting a person's hopes up!! I think postings like this will help. It happens so much that newbies think they should do it. My teenage daughter got me into Posh and SHE did it and reprimanded me when I didn't! She has a lot to learn about selling! LOL!!

Yes! I've been answering with, "What's your highest?"

This is too perfect! I'm going to tag every person here that gives me a "what's your lowest" from now on. 😉

I love this! Many of my items are on sale and all are marked with "SALE!!", I don't think making the price any lower is just. I see a lot of people making ridiculous offers on here, trying to pay $10 for an item that's marked at $50. Oh well, I guess! :)
jijifashion
@ktrn777 for the folks that post "trade?" on My listings I provide them with a link to a posting I have that says " no trades, no holds, no PayPal". It comes off a little mean but I have that I don't trade at the front of my closet.

Just about everything that has been written is on my list of things I dislike but I have one more. Someone states that they want you to say drop your price from $50 to $20 because they saw the same on someone else site for that price. When I ask her tell me were so I could go by it she told me a site, well it was not there and when I sent her a tag and told her that, she talked ugly and told she was going to tell all my followers how terrible I was. I thanked her for sharing and she really got upset with me then. I have had these types of things happen a number of times and it really upsets me. Why do people have to try and stir things up. It makes me sad.

amen :)) I hate being asked the question "you interested" EVEN when I do "like" an item! It's kinda silly to me! Of course I'm interested, I "Liked" it didn't I? And it's listed in my likes, so when I get a chance, I will message/comment when I'm ready to wheel & deal! hahahahaha Some nights I shop and "like" items then go back later to see what I want the most! Having to answer to 15 people asking me if "I'm interested" gets to me, and sometimes I don't even answer. I try no to attack people right away when they like my items. If I see they like several, I let them know I will bundle for them, I DON'T say "you interested"? I already know they are! LOL!! And I TRY to share when someone shares my stuff! But I'm sure I miss some :'( Tonight I'm catching up on New followers and sharers :)) Happy poshing!!!

Ya know, I guess we are all different. Having been a business woman for years even owning my own Boutique, I always believed some business is better then no business. You are not obligated to answer the questions that appear so stressful to you. I totally respect your right to feel the way you do as obviously you have others who feel the same. As for me, I've learned not to sweat the small stuff in life. I realize of all the thousands of Poshers there are probably a thousand different thoughts on this issue. Please indulge me in this one point. Your "Welcome" page projects a person who is fun & warm. I was attracted to it right away. Then I see this post that say's, "LET'S GET ONE THING STRAIGHT!" It sounds a bit hostile to me. Here's an old saying, "You can catch more bees with honey than with vinegar." Just a thought. Happy POSHING!
tessturbo
I can't stand being asked if I'm interested simply because I like an item. I often 'like' things that are super-cool, though not my size; or gorgeous but for which I presently have no need. (Prom dress?!) When I'm seriously interested, I'll let a seller know. Don't we all?

You can have I do not trade at the top and 12 people could have asked you "do you share" and it is all over the site and someone will come right back and ask again. If I am interested in a item I read all the comments to see what history the items has because some of your questions might have already been asked. I always thank someone for their likes but unless they have liked more than one thing I do say anymore. If they have liked a couple of items I offer to give them a good discount for bundles. I have met so many nice people on Posh, just love it. Shirley

What really bothers me is when they advertise on my items in my closet. But that's it.
criss459
@ezwright you're right, you do get approached when you're shopping. However I am not talking about people who go out with the intention to buy. This is when all I want to do is share an item of yours. I have no intention of buying. It most likely doesn't fit, not my color, not a style I would wear but it's cute, out of my price range.. It could be any number of reasons why I am sharing someone else's item. There's not any time I am even hitting the like button. People need to know the difference between the two. Sorry if you don't like it, it's your opinion. My opinion is I find it rude and annoying that they constantly ask. And this isn't I get "interested?" on a item once in a blue moon. This happens everyday where I am being asked (when all I did was hit the share button) and it happens about 20 times or more. If someone is interested, they can ask questions, negotiate price, etc on their own. Asking people that question doesn't guarantee a sale. And asking someone who clearly shared an item isn't looking to buy, it's only to share. They should ask only the people hitting that like button and nothing more.
criss459
@ezwright yes, we are all entitled to our opinions which is why I wrote this post to begin with. 😌 I understand letting people know about extra discounts that the seller would love to apply however Posh etiquette states that it's not entirely appropriate to ask "are you interested" so I'm just clarifying that statement in my own way
mida87
I don't mind the question of what's my lowest.. But seriously don't waste my time asking when you're not even going to purchase because "shipping costs" if you didn't intend to purchase DO NOT ask. The are you interested I am guilty of, but having been asked myself I understand why it's inappropriate. If I liked your item clearly.. I'm interested and may return
samjoyfay
amen!
msbsboutique
@ezwright and @sassysuzzy I agree with asking someone if they're "interested" if they "like" your listing. I get side tracked & forget about items I "liked". When the seller asks if I'm "interested", I usually go back & look again. I don't "like" if I'm not interested. However, I completely agree with "HUN" & "what's your lowest price" or "do you PP" or "TRADE" or complaining about shipping. You already know its against the rules to use PP & you know what the shipping is & it specifically states that I don't trade! Why ask? Thanks for allowing us to use your space to vent & to exercise our right to freedom of speech! Haha! Had to throw that in there!
sassysuzzy
@mslorrieb @ezwright FINALLY IVE FOUND MY SISTERHOOD!! Two people out of ? agree. LOL! I never have understood the Hun business. Sounds condescending to me but I do try to give people the benefit of the doubt. Posh language I guess! I have not had too many issues but a few so I choose to focus on the majority & breathe thru the rest. @ezwright I read it the way you did. If someone likes, I usually thank them for browsing my closet & yes they are out browsing. I don't ask if they are interested usually I say thanks & if I can assist you LMK. I don't mind folks asking me my lowest price. I am always up for negotiating a price which seems better then letting an item sit there. I also will say if it's my lowest price. As I said, some business is better then no business in my view but that's just me & two others!LOL I REALLY DO HAVE TO SAY AGAIN, THAT THE SIGN, "Let's Get One Thing Straight", is offensive to me. If I was going into a store & saw that sign, I would NOT go in. I have run two very successful Businesses & I was successful because I made everyone who came into my place of business feel like family. If you are going to work with the public you are going to find that some people are just obnoxious but I've found that humor & a smile wins most of them over. You never know what that person is going thru. So ladies just relax the next time someone asks you if your interested or another pet peeve. Trust me at the age of 61 there is a lot worse things to stress about. I say that in a loving way not snobby. Have fun & Posh On!!

THANK YOU for this. Love this post. What I hate more than anything is that when I do share items from someone's closet, they comment ON MY LISTINGS about a sale they're having or for even MORE shares. I can see from their listings that they're having a sale, and they really should not be using my closet as a platform to sell THEIR clothes. Fail lmao. and then we can't delete their comments

susanrosenberg
Good for you for posting this! I completely agree and didn't find this offensive at all. "What's your lowest?" is just rude. I usually ask "What's your highest?" If it's a serious buyer, they will respond. If I've listed something for x, it's because that's what I think it is worth. To offer half is just ridiculous. If wanted to sell it for half, I'd have listed it at that price. And nowhere does it say Posh is a thrift shop. Many of us are not selling junky items. The expectation should not be that everything should sell for $10 or less. The "Hun" and "Girly" also drive me nuts. And don't get me started on "Doll." A doll is an empty headed plaything. I'm a grown-up with a brain.
kimmiedee
LOL! you are so right chicky :)
stphoffman
I love this!! But let me ask you this question, when I get a like, I respond "thanks for the like, let me know if I can help in any way". I don't want to be pushy, but I did want to acknowledge the like. What's your take? Still trying to learn the Posh etiquette:/). Btw, thank you for sharing, much appreciated!!
criss459
@stphoffman that is fine. If someone likes an item and you just want to thank them for the like or let them know what your discounts are when they bundle more than one item for example that's perfectly fine.
What irks people is when they only ask "Interested?" I mean, the answer is obvious. It's a yes otherwise no one would hit the like button. But there are times when I hit the like button even if it's not my size. I do it so I may hopefully find it. Or maybe doesn't hit my budget at the time. I find that one word very pushy.
Or when someone shares an item (and only shares, no like button is pushed) and they still asked "Interested?" A share and a like are not the same. I share in hopes that they return the favor, not to buy an item.
I hope that helps. I don't mean to sound grouchy or anything. It's just informative. I am sharing items constantly so I have people asking me "Interested?" more than a dozen times a day. It's good for people to know the difference.
stphoffman
No, I get it, I think twice about liking something for that reason. Thanks for sharing ur wisdom:/).
cestlavie5
Thank you! As I put my "lowest" and then get no reply the next interested party gets that price. Not good business!! May I use this? Well said!! :)
lpaiges
@criss459 I'm new to Posh and have liked a ton of things. Now every time I get on here I have a billion "interested?" comments. It is so rude-- if I'm interested I'll let you know! Wish everyone got this!!!
amassarat
Ha ha. I love this. I just got a "what is your rock bottom price" and when I responded with "what is your offer" she low balled me and said, "i have to consider the shipping cost." I simply responded that what she was offering was too low for the piece and that I had to consider the fact that she was asking for a 30% discount and the 20% PM fee. I felt a little rude after sending it ... but I think her lowball offer and shipping cost justification was more rude.

@criss459 , as a new posher, this info is really great. If anyone knows out to sort their items in their closet, will you please help me out? My friend gave me a ton of small clothes and shoes. I am a plus sized girl. I would like to seperate them into six categories, etc.
Love your closet!
criss459
The way to organize your closet is to share it. Weird advice right? lol But so far it's the only way to do it. Whatever you want clustered together in your categories, you need to share it at the same time. So if you want all your shoes to be together, you just share all your shoes. And then everything you share moves up to the top of your closet. So when you share your shoes, you will now see them at the top of all your listings when you refresh your closet page. So keep that in mind if you always want your closet to be organized by your categories because you will have to share all your items in one category first before you move on to the next one or it will disorganize your category sections.
Poshmark has made some really nice updates to their app and their website. I've been a member since February 2013 so it's neat to see them grow! Just a couple weeks ago Poshmark made an update where you can now go to someone's closet and search for what you would like to see! You know that little tab right under your profile information? It's the answer to everything! :) You can look at just shoes if you like, only look at a certain brand, see only the items under a certain price range and even an option to only show the items available for sale. Even look only at your size! It's great! So if you didn't organize your closet, that's fine, people still have an option to filter through what they would like to see as well when they browse your closet. :)
Hope this helps. Sorry it's a book. @lukaloveless

@criss459 , thank you so much! That is priceless information! You are awesome. ! :)

This is great, I used to work in retail and would never treat a customer the way some people do on here! If someone likes one of my items, I thank them for stopping by, let them know I'd be happy to answer any questions they have and that I offer discounts on bundles. Just as I would to a customer in my store, no pressure just offering customer service! So well said!

moonbunnytoo
Can I borrow this for my closet? "What's your lowest??" Has been driving me nuts! Even newbies are using this!
criss459
@moonbunnytoo sure go ahead :)
criss459
@genie7x oh no I don't think allowing them to know your sales or letting them know how much off they get if they bundle is bad. In fact, I think that is perfect! I worked a couple years in retail and I'm the same way.. I love to hear the sales and specials in stores that I absolutely love. I always made sure customers I had always knew of any coupons we had. Even let them use the one that was just the desk copy. I couldn't hand it out but it gave them the special. I do what I would want to happen to me if I was the one buying the item.
It's just when the only thing a seller says to you is "Are you interested?!" To me, that question is unnecessary because hitting the like button has already answered that question in some form -- whether they can afford it, wrong size, contemplating the purchase, waiting on other Poshmark funds from a previous sale, etc. To me, this question sounds too pushy and too eager for a sale. I'm not saying that wanting a sale is horrible. I know I get excited knowing I can have a little extra cash.
But this is what I think of it: it's kind if like when you go in a store and you're trying things on and you have an employee or two that are hanging around and giving their opinions when you come out of the dressing room to show them or your shopping companion. And all they have to say is "THAT LOOKS GREAT ON YOU!" But they say that about everything you try on that it starts to come off as fake? Especially when they are the only ones saying it looks good and your friend/boyfriend/mom (or whoever it is) are all saying nooooo. Lol it doesn't sound sincere. It sounds like they just want you to purchase everything you piled in the fitting room with you without ever giving their true opinion.
When I shop, I want an honest answer if I ask people their opinions about clothing. Or can find other suggestions if I find what I'm trying on isn't really working for me.
If they want to say "Are you interested?" it just makes me think of retail associates who only think of the number of products or amount of the purchase they can get from you instead of you as a person. I know some retail stores have a goal and you have to meet a certain dollar amount for your shift. I had a job exactly like that. But I never took that goal too seriously. I cared more about what my customer needed and gave any suggestions if they wanted any help finding anything. I never pushed people to buy something. It never felt right to be that way.

WELL SAID MY FRIEND!!! My sentiments exactly! I try very hard to share as much as I can for the connection to fellow Poshers & to make friends, which I've met some really wonderful people! I like things all the time in people's closets to show luv, because I do genuinely like the item but as you said, it may not be my size, within my price range or fit my needs period. I've always thought it was so "bad form" to pester people for liking an item. I'm not a pushy person & I can't imagine hounding every single person who's shown me some love in my closet. I do however say thank you, if we've never spoke before I say hi & introduce my self or will say something nice, funny or in tune with their posting. Like I'm doing with you now.
You are spot on with the lowballing business! I try very hard to list my items that are all new, nice, some cost me a lot of $$, to price my items at what I feel is reasonable, especially considering not only do I list an item for far less than what I paid for it but Posh takes their 20% off the top of the sale. It boggles my mind that some people don't have enough foresight to even think about that. I don't mind negotiating but I'm not just going to take almost nothing for an item when all is said & done. Like right now I have a promo sale listing in my closet clearly spelling out the different discounts & other things people can get depending on number of items bought. If someone buys 1 item sure I'll knock a little off if it's reasonable. Now if more than 1 item is bought the discounts just get better & I see many good sellers do similar things.
I've made friends with some people who have really awesome items listed for so much lower than they could. For instance 1 gal has this great closet, all her items very nice, used but maybe only 1 time & you'd never know because the items look brand new still. Anyhow this one gal had a really nice vest from Bebe, made w/expensive materials, lined, very well made & she listed it for only $6! You know she prob paid $80-$100 for it because of how nice it was. She could've easily listed it for $20! Well while we were chatting someone asks her if she'll take $4 for it! I just about fell over. I made a comment that I hope she does not even entertain that because she was already practically giving it away. She said I thought I was being reasonable. I said more than reasonable, if it were my size Id have that snapped up in a second for that price! This is not GoodWill! In fact I've seen so many people list gorgeous items for almost nothing that GoodWill would most likely have priced higher!
Anyhow sorry for the rant, I just don't get some things and your post was perfectly said!
Congratulations by the way, I hope you enjoy every minute! Have a great night!👑

I just want to share this all day, 😃😃😃

Thank you. Yesterday I had a lady told me my $12 buttoned down shirt was too high and if I could lower it to $7. I'm not trying to sound like an ass but if it's too high, why bother saying that in a comment, why not put an offer to see if i accept it. Sad thing was she was a seller with her own closet. I thought it was rude.

AMMMMMEN!!! Thank you, sharing this as well. I have had quite the few rude Poshers lately. I've received more 60% off listing offers than I can count.. And then they insult you when you decline!
ostrovska18
Oh my gosh I HATE "lowest"! I do NOT price my items high on purpose, I price mine based on what I expect to get out of them! I may be flexible, more on some items less on others, but I have no lowest. It's almost offensive to me!

@criss459 I actually read some asked "Are you interesting", over and over again to everyone who liked her item, that's comical😃 Yet it makes me realize all type of people we encounter here😳
cmalette93
@criss459 thanks for the shares! And totally love this 100%! I get "interested?" all the time. Drives me nuts. And lowball offers 😒 i have a few VS pink bras i never got to wear. Paid full price for them $45 listed for $20. I think that's a very generous amount off for brand new. I did a 4th sale and dropped the price to $17 for the news and i got 3 offers and a comment for $10! Brand spanking NWOT grabbed the wrong bra but lost the receipt

@criss459 I absolutely love this! You said what we all are thinking when we get asked these questions; and you communicated it eloquently. Thank you for putting this out there in our community. Let's hope it makes people think twice before they ask obvious questions. 😉💕💕💕
lynda721
@hrachal I thought to tag you on this because I was just admiring the Grey Michael Kors cardigan and I noticed your comment back to them said something about how her offer was 90% lower than the item is worth! We all deal with it. Thought you'd appreciate this listing. 😉💕💕
