I have gotten 4 orders where the box was mush (due to rain) and the shirts inside got wet. I highly suggest you get the free Tyvek envelopes (1st pic) from USPS and put the clothes in the envelope then in the box. You can get them at the PO or order at USPS.com. They're FREE! It can cause a real headache if the buyer gets upset with you, because they're clothes got wet, even if it's not your fault. Read all comments for more tips from other Poshers

Do you know how much the boxes will cost me at the post office?
closetenvy2
Most people use the boxes that are at the post office. I'm sure you've noticed that the box is pretty big if you're just mailing a shirt or two. I order a smaller version of the box on usps.com. You can order all your shipping supplies there FREE! The box I use is in the 2nd picture.
Also, be sure to NEVER use Priority Mail FLAT RATE boxes. They will send it back to you or ask the buyer to pay extra shipping. Get the regular Priority Mail boxes that say Mailing Box, like in the 2nd pic.

@alijohnsonnnn They're always FREE! Just order them online and they'll ship to you free. While you're waiting on that order, pick up a few from the post office. They usually leave them out. Just grab what you need. You can also use the Express Mail tyvek envelopes if they're out of the others, as long as you put it in a PM box.

Very good advice!! I shipped a package in a USPS box and when it arrived to the buyer she got upset that it was almost open enough where she could reach in and get the item out..The item was fine but...she gave me a 2 star rating on here...Seems like she should have been a little more understanding,,but oh well...I recommend a lot of tape also!!
dressyu
@closetenvy2 Think of shoes with heels/purses with buckles I have 🙈 things!!!

Thank you for the great info. And I am happy to hear your surgery went well.😃
jewelry_party
oh I love your idea of putting it into the waterproof bag first. Another posher had mentioned that you shouldn't use colored tissue paper cause the dye in it will ruin the clothing if gotten wet. But if you placed the bundle in the waterproof bag, you can still make it pretty and safe! Also for smaller fragile items that you may be shipping, like jewelry, AVOID the DVD mailing boxes. The newest batch that they are sending out are pure junk! I've had one buyer/package destroyed already. They crush and flatten way too easily. However they are great for sending out wallets and clutches, as long as they are not ornate, beaded or fragile. Oh and don't forget the Shoebox boxes they are great!
jewelry_party
@lorenad_21 @chrimsonshane Lot's of good tips and advice here.

@mistyheart Yeah, I only use tissue paper that is mostly white and always put it in the waterproof envelope. Good tips! Thank u!
deenanelson
You can also order the bubble envelopes that are also free that I use to wrap Jewelry in. You can get up to 75 at a time and these are also free. You can't use them to ship because they are a flat rate but you can use them inside to protect what your shipping. Also remember that we can not use the Flat rate boxes. The codes Of the boxes I use are 1095, 1096, and 1097, that are shaped like the box above. I also use Priority stickers to put on your own boxes if you don't have a priority box that fits. If you go to the site to order you will see on the description of each box weather it's a flat rate or not. @closetenvy2 I hope you don't mind me adding my 2 cents worth 😍😘 this is a awesome idea!
fccandles
@closetenvy2 @deenanelson I too suggest the padded envelopes! I use these many ways, but primarily to protect. 1st the envelope, then I put in the box.. And like you said, They're free!! I also use them to protect smaller/fragile items and then slide in a tyvek. If you cut them at the seam, they're FREE bubble wrap!! 👍
deenanelson
Yep I agree, but I actually had I buyer give me 4 stars because I put her jewelry in the bubble envelope and I then into a tyvek envelope. She said I used to much packaging lol. I explained it was for her items safety as I have had envelopes opened and the contents stolen. And I have had things crushed before. Oh well I will still wrap things the way I do, that way you know it gets there and it gets there in one piece 😍😍😍
closetenvy2
@deenanelson Yeah, I've had something similar happen. But, it's usually a young or new Posher. I just explain it and show them the packaging tips, lol.
deenanelson
Yep she was young and I explained that it was for her protection and I also explained I recycle and reuse all my items. 🍃💖💕

xuana14
@closetenvy2 why would they ship back to u or charge the buyer extra postage with the FLAT RATE box. Do u know? Thank u for sharing all this great info!!
closetenvy2
@beckytf The reason is because the flat rate shipping charge is higher than the $4.99 that we pay to Poshmark. To ship in a box that's flat rate, standard size box (fits about 2 shirts), it costs $10.85. Sometimes they don't catch it, but it's not worth it if they do. Most of the time the person at the counter will notice. However, like me, most people just walk in and sit it on the counter and leave. Does that make sense?

@leemari11 You're welcome! One other thing I tell people because I get 5 stars many times just doing this...
Go to Walmart in the hardware section close to the ropes and stuff and buy some twine. I get a big roll for like $4. It's 3 times that in the craft section. I wrap it up with tissue paper and twine, and people love it! 😆
leemari11

zoey26

closetenvy2
@zoey26 You have to be on the full site not the mobile site. On the full site, click at the top left where the 3 blue bars are. Then you'll see Postal Store and then Shipping Supplies. You want regular priority mail boxes and envelopes, not priority flat rate boxes.

closetenvy2
@dba28 That should work. With clothes it doesn't really matter if the box gets crushed IF you have it in a waterproof bag.
maaly212
I love the tyvek envelopes! I use them for larger orders. Another cheap way is to use polymailers, it's a few bucks for a hundred and they're very durable :)
closetenvy2
@maaly212 Great idea! Where do you get them?
maaly212
@closetenvy2 I got mine from eBay but Amazon has them too. There is a good variety of colors and prints :)
closetenvy2
@maaly212 OK, I'll check it out. Thank u!
kadensmommy77
Does it have to be a box ? Can it be an envelope ?
closetenvy2
@kadensmommy77 You can use an envelope as long as it's one or two small items and NOT jewelry. It will get broken if you ship jewelry in an envelope. Regardless, I'd still get the tyvek envelopes for your items to be waterproof, if you're using your own envelopes. Just put your items in the tyvek, then in whatever envelope your using. Remember, the tyvek envelopes are FREE.
closetenvy2
@kadensmommy77 If you're shipping jewelry or something breakable, I put tissue paper around it, then bubble wrap. I then put it in a USPS bubble envelope, also FREE, and fold it around the jewelry for extra protection. Then I put it in a waterproof envelope and then in a box. Boxes sometimes get smashed so imagine what happens to envelopes. I hope this helped.
kadensmommy77
I own an online boutique and send all my packages via usps, priority mail envelope unless the order is huge ! I am shipping my first item tomorrow that sold in my closet so I just want to make sure the envelope is OK ? I've been in business a year and have never had a problem or complaint :)
kadensmommy77
@closetenvy2 I only sell clothing ! Thank you for your input as this is a lot different then my online store & was just making sure everything is smooth sailing
closetenvy2
@kadensmommy77 Oh yeah, it's fine. I get most of my stuff in envelopes. I've had two people ship jewelry in envelopes, and it broke. I've also had orders get wet sitting on our porch. It rains here a lot. So I just suggest get some tyvek envelopes to solve that problem. He'll, it's free. I order mine on the usps website since I need so many.
closetenvy2
@kadensmommy77 I have to keep all my Posh stuff in my bedroom. There's probably 300 items, and I have more shipping supplies than that. It's ridiculous. We have a 4 bedroom house, but have 4 kids and a mother-in-law that lives here. I'll have to let one of the kids go, lol.

sabmar
can you just send it in the envelope without a box?
closetenvy2
@sabmar Yes, you can. However, if it's jewelry or anything that could be crushed, it needs to go in a box.
sabmar
No it's clothing! Thanks and also when we go to the PO do we have to pay up front the 4.99 or we just drop it off?
closetenvy2
@sabmar You have to print the label that Poshmark emails to you. That way you're not paying for shipping. The buyer pays that. I'd suggest getting the PO to tape the ends of your envelope so it's 100% waterproof.
fq1009
Can we use Priority Mail Tyvek Envelopes when shipping items with the poshmark prepaid shipping label? Do we have to use boxes?
closetenvy2
@fq1009 Yes, you can use just the envelopes. However, I'd you're shipping anything that could be damaged if crushed, like makeup, jewelry or clothing with sequins on it, I'd suggest using a box in addition to the Tyvek envelope. Hope that helps!
fq1009
Thanks. I'm just really confused because poshmark said how we can only use things that say Priority Mail. And the envelope just says that but when you're ordering it, the tue says Priority Mail Tyvek Envelope.
fq1009
*tue = title
fq1009
Can Priority Mail Tyvek Envelopes rip easily? The material looks like it can.
closetenvy2
@fq1009 They just don't want you to use boxes or envelopes that say Express Mail. You also can't use boxes that say Priority Mail Flat Rate. Those cost more to ship. ONLY use the ones that just say Priority Mail and Mailing Box. The tyvek envelopes don't come in Flat Rate so don't worry about those. Oh, and no, they don't rip easily. In fact, you need scissors to open one, or a blow torch, lol. They're kind of a plastic-y material.

adianileth
I went to the post office today and I had been using boxes that would go with the item but now they're telling me that I have to use specific boxes and ship whenever it says to ship, I wasn't aware of that before? She kept saying I would need to pay extra even with a prepaid mailing label so now I'm super confused on what boxes to ship in! Help?
closetenvy2
@adianileth No, that's not correct. I ran into that issue 2 years ago. They get confused. Poshmark had a special shipping rate. As long as you don't use a flat rate box or envelope, you should be able to ship it in anything. I'd definitely ask for a manager or the number for the Postmaster. I've had to do that too. Go to a different post office or give it to the mail carrier instead. I'd definitely email Poshmark in the meantime because I know they've dealt with this.
adianileth
I think I will do that because they wanted me to pay 18.75 for a box that held a bundle! I was like that's crazy! I'll just take them to a different post office and hope I don't have an issue with these and I'll figure it out for next time because I live in a tiny town away from everything so it's hard to go to other post offices!
closetenvy2
@adianileth Was it over 5 lbs? Did they say the box was too large?
adianileth
No it was 4 lbs, and everything fit perfect in the box!
closetenvy2
@adianileth Yeah, they're in the wrong. You'll eventually get it straightened out, but you'll have to talk to another person there that understands the rules.
adianileth
I'm glad to hear that, I've never had any problems before! Thank you sooo much for your help! 😌
closetenvy2
@adianileth Oh, I've had them all! Please feel free to message me if you have any questions or problems. I'll help if I can.
I've run into a lot of shipping problems. I have 1 other very important shipping post. Just how to the Other category, under women in my closet, and scroll down. It's about weight and size. And you're welcome!
yeezylexxis
Are these envelopes allowed to use for shipping? I'm new to poshmark so i'm not sure how it really works😅
closetenvy2
@yeezylexxis Yes, they are. Just don't use the blue Express one that's similar. Also, don't ship any jewelry or items that can be crushed in them. I mainly use them to put my items in to protect them from humidity and rain. I then put them in a box, but you can ship it in just the envelope.
There are boxes also that are free at the post office. Just don't use flat rate boxes.
yeezylexxis
okay thank you so much!

aquakids
Can I use the priority shoe box to ship jackets in? They are pretty big. Will it still be $5.95? If I were to ship them it would cost me about $11
crickaroa
@closetenvy2 No, I actually hit reply to one of the comments above, (the one where she said she double wrapped her package & got 4 stars for using "too much packaging"). It's the 1st time I've used the "reply" button in a comment like that, & couldn't even find where my comment went afterward. 😕 I assumed it would just pop up under her comment..(kinda like FB), but I obviously did "something" wrong!! Haha.
closetenvy2
@crickaroa I didn't even know there was a reply button, lol. I gotta start paying attention. Yeah, that would be nice if it did do like FB. But yeah, that's absolutely ridiculous that someone did that. I'd buy something from them just to leave one star and say not enough packing, lol. But I'm hormonal.
closetenvy2
@aquakids Yes, you can use any box the post office has as long as it's not a flat rate box. If the jacket and box together goes over 5 lbs., it will be extra though. I usually weigh mine, then I tell the buyer that there's an extra shipping fee. If it is over 5 lbs, you can pay the difference or cancel the order and see if they're willing to pay the extra fee.
deenanelson
@crickaroa and @closetenvy2 hi ladies, yes it's weird to see the new Reply button in play, how cool. I think I left that comment either 1 or 2 yrs ago. Pretty cool.

margyvgomes
@closetenvy2 Hi, unfortunately I just shipped an item in a Priority Flat Rate Box, will my package get returned to me? What happens? Thanks for your help.
closetenvy2
@margyvgomes I'd say 75% of the time, they don't even pick up on it. So, you're probably ok. Watch your tracking. If you notice a delay, contact Poshmark and let them know what happened and see what you should do. I've recently received several packages that were in flat rate boxes, and noone caught onto it. You're probably OK if it's already tracking.
margyvgomes
@closetenvy2 thanks so much for your reply!

Awesome tip!
closetenvy2
@dgrendot Thank you! I'll tag you on another one I have.
closetenvy2
@dstrobl I've had it happen a few times. I guess it's different in different areas. I'd drive around to several post offices and gather as many as they'll give you. I do that a lot too. This time of year, supplies are short, so you'll definitely have to go to several. If you can only get flat rate boxes, buy some rolls of craft paper, and just wrap the box in that so they don't know it's a flat rate box. It's a lot cheaper than buying your own boxes. That's what I do when supplies run out.
closetenvy2
@dstrobl I think you can get the really big rolls of craft paper at Lowe's and Home Depot. Per square foot, it's cheaper.

bella_miller
Hi i have a question, i need to ship an item and posh is taking a while getting back to my email. This might be a silly question, but can i just use the plain USPS brown padded envelopes? thanks (:
closetenvy2
@bellamiller123 Yes, you can certainly use one of those. Once you put the Poshmark label on it, have them put priority mail stickers on the envelope for you.
goodfindsbyjime
Whats is the difference between priority mail and flat rate? The free ones that i pick up at the usps say priority mail but in little letters say flat rate so i am very confused...
closetenvy2
@jiimmm Let me explain... Priority Mail boxes come in 3 versions: regular priority mail (which is what you need), priority mail flat rate and priority mail regional rate. The boxes you need should not say flat rate or regional rate anywhere on the box. It just says Mailing Box, like in the 2nd and 3rd pics. You'll always see more flat rate boxes at the post office. Most people use those.
closetenvy2
@jiimmm We can't because we're restricted to a 5 lb limit, so our shipping fees don't cover flat rate boxes, which have no weight limit. A lot of people use the flat rate boxes and get away with it, but you still have a 75% chance they'll catch it. You may have to ask them if the have any regular priority mail boxes available.
closetenvy2
@jiimmm They typically have more in the back than what's out. However, not all post offices carry the regular ones, so it's important to order ahead of time online. It's all free and delivered right to your door. In the meantime, you can use the flat rate boxes and wrap them in that brown shipping paper that comes on a roll, and they'll have no idea it's one of their flat rate boxes. I hope this helps.
closetenvy2
@jiimmm Let me know if you need me to explain any of that.
goodfindsbyjime
This helps very much!!! Thank you so sooo much!!!!!! ❤️
closetenvy2
@jiimmm You're very welcome! Glad I could help!
closetenvy2
@nrodrii89 I don't mind one bit. As long as you use the ones that say Mailing Box instead of Flat Rate or Regional Rate, then yes, you can use any size they come in, including shoe boxes. The regional rate boxes are the ones you're talking about. Flat Rate and Regional Rate clearly say it on the box. On the USPS website, it will also say if the are. Let me know if you have more questions.
closetenvy2
@nrodrii89 You're very welcome! Any time you have questions, let me know. I have lots of tutorials for sellers in the Other section of my closet. Be sure to go ahead and order some boxes because some sizes are hard, or impossible, to get in the post office.
closetenvy2
@nrodrii89 You're welcome! 😉
brookemoj
Hi! Just had a question and wondered if you knew. So poshmark says to not ship with priority mail flat rate boxes, but every box I have ever seen at a usps store says flat rate at the bottom so I'm very confused. I am shipping out shoes for the first time and don't know what to do.
closetenvy2
@brookemoj Some post offices don't catch onto it, but you're just taking a risk when you do use a flat rate box. Ask them if they have any that aren't flat rate. I've never heard of them not having any. It's possible they keep them in the back though.
I had one lady tell me that they didn't catch on to her using a flat rate box until it got all the way to the delivery city. Eek!
brookemoj
@closetenvy2 ok thanks!!
brookelizzyy
Hey!! I only have ups express pak envelopes and boxes! Is that ok to use or will it get sent back
closetenvy2
@brookelizzyy If they're UPS (not USPS) you definitely can't use them. They'll send it back to you. If it's USPS, you also can't use Express envelopes or boxes. You'll have to use either the free ones from the post office or go buy some from a store.
closetenvy2
@brookemoj I think it's hollow, but I'll see if I can tell when I get home. I doubt it's solid because it wouldn't be bendable at all.
closetenvy2
@brookemoj You're welcome!
tatjana_darling
I had a question about large boxes for boots.. one of the workers at the post office said it would be $18 shipping. Would I have to pay the rest of the amount since the shipping on Poshmark for buyers are only $6? My boots got sold but it's not worth selling if I have to pay the rest
closetenvy2
@tatjana_darling Poshmark rules say you do have to pay the rest. However, there's a way around the extra charge. I'll tag you on a post I did about it.
bquan13
@closetenvy2 Great post! I can't get to my local Post Office in time and I'm not quite sure if my box is over 5 pounds. What if I shipped it and it was over 5 pounds (I have not upgraded the label bc I don't know the weight). Will the package be returned to me if it's over 5 pounds? Any light you can shed would be great!
closetenvy2
@bquan13 Unfortunately there's no straight answer. They may catch it when you drop it off, but it also can be caught anywhere along the route. It could then be sent back to you or held at the post office until your buyer comes in to pay the difference, which they won't. So, I would find out when you drop it off then go home and reprint a new label or pay the difference then.
misskrissss
Okay.. can someone please help meee! (I'm a newbie). So, I totally get that we're not supposed to use boxes/envelopes that say "Flat Rate" on them.. they're only supposed to say "Mailing box" or "Mailing Envelope" correct? but.. I've noticed on Instagram some of you gals will post pictures of your orders and I noticed some of the envelopes say "Flat Rate Envelope" on them. Now I had ordered myself some and was going to return the to the PO, but am I allowed to use these?? Help help help.
closetenvy2
@misskrissss Sorry I'm just seeing your message. A lot of Poshers use the flat rate boxes, but you always risk running into a problem if you do. It can be caught at your post office or anywhere along the way. Then, it can be returned to you or even worse. It can be held at the buyer's local post office & them get a card saying they owe additional postage before they can get their package.....
closetenvy2
@misskrissss So, to me it's definitely not worth the risk. I've seen many posts on here over the years about these things happening. The ones that don't get caught are just lucky. I accidentally used a flat rate one time, and my post office told me I had to pay $12 more. So I switched boxes. If you want to keep the boxes, get some of that thick craft paper you can get on rolls, and wrap them in that so they don't see that it's a flat rate box.
closetenvy2
@beautybyyazzy21 You're very welcome!
misskrissss
Awesome, thank you so so much!! <3
maymegan1
Just a question, are you able to ship in the tyvek evelopes? I really like shipping in evelopes over boxes but all of USPS evelopes on the website are flat rate or express!
closetenvy2
@maymegan1 No, you're not supposed to ship in them since they're flat rate. You risk them catching it, and you'll have a huge headache and upset buyer. I use them inside of the boxes for protection from humidity and rain only. You can buy envelopes of course. But you're right. All of USPS envelopes are flat rate so can't be used technically. Just order some boxes and also use the envelopes for protection. You get used to the boxes.
maymegan1
@closetenvy2 alright, thank you. And do you know if the boxes you use fit inside of the blue mail boxes?
closetenvy2
@maymegan1 You're welcome! I'm not sure what you mean by blue mail boxes. I'm sorry.
ryleighdeforge
@closetenvy2 So we can't use the Priority mail boxes that say "flat rate box" ?
ryleighdeforge
I've never shopped before so this is new to me!
ryleighdeforge
Shipped *
closetenvy2
@ryleighdeforge Correct. They can't say Flat Rate or Regional Flat Rate. The correct ones just say Mailing Box. If you go to the USPS website, you'll see where they say Mailing Box. If you use flat rate, they may or may not catch it, but it's just not worth the risk. If you have to use flat rate boxes, wrap them in the thick brown shipping paper you can get at Lowe's on a roll. It's very cheap.
ryleighdeforge
@closetenvy2 thank you! Does the post office usually tape it for you??
closetenvy2
@ryleighdeforge Not usually. If you live in a small town they'll sometimes let you use their tape roll. Larger towns they'll tell you you have to buy tape from them, so I'd do it ahead of time.
courtinie
@closetenvy2 what's the best way to ship a pair of boots?
closetenvy2
@courtinie Are they tall boots? Does the customer want the box? I'm gonna tag you on another post I did about boots
courtinie
@closetenvy2 calf height boots and no box ...thanks so much in advance!
closetenvy2
@courtinie Ok, you should wrap them in tissue paper or packing paper (each boot separately) & then put each in its own free tyvek envelope from the post office. That keeps them safe from rain and humidity. Then you'll have to put them in a box. You're welcome!
closetenvy2
@strawberry1998 You need to go to a post office in another town, preferably larger town. There's an agreement between Poshmark and USPS That the label covers anything under 5 lbs. Is it possible your package weighed more than that? If another post office doesn't know about it, then contact Poshmark. Actually, I'd go ahead and do that now.
gezy
Hi!! Thank you for the amazing tips. I was wandering if I can use my boxes ( brown boxes)? What are the measures of the boxes I can use?
closetenvy2
@gezy Yes, you can use your boxes. They keep changing the measurements allowed with special Priority Mail boxes. Meaning, Poshmark has a special rate, so they have special restrictions. I wish Poshmark would post the measurements, but they don't. Here's about all I can tell you...You're safe with the size parameters of any of the priority mail boxes, so compare to those. Anything really long, like tall boot boxes, could be a problem.
closetenvy2
@ts043 Shipping is the same rate as long as it's under 5 lbs (most shoes are well under that), and the box isn't super long, like tall boots. You should keep them in the original box and then also put it in a shipping box. USPS has shoe boxes, but they're not always large enough to fit all shoes. You may need to actually buy a box, depending on the size of your shoe box. Shoes seem to be the exception to all the rules.
closetenvy2
@ts043 You're welcome! I'll tag you in a listing I did about boots boxes. That would apply to any shoe box that's huge though.

@robynebrenae 👀👀👀👀👀👀
closetenvy2
@robynebrenae Let me know if you have any questions about shipping. I have a couple of listings about it, after learning the hard way.
robynebrenae
@closetenvy2 you're a lifesaver!! I literally had the wrong boxes 📦 packed until my friend @kandidoll82 sent me this post. This was my first time shipping! All that I can say is thank you a million times!!! ❤️❤️❤️
kandidoll82
@closetenvy2 You definitely saved the day!! Shipping has been stressful! But know I know what to do !! 😊 Thank You! Thank You. You have helped us so much me and @robynebrenae
closetenvy2
@robynebrenae You're very welcome! I'm glad she saw it! 😊
closetenvy2
@kandidoll82 You're very welcome!!! 😉
allinapuerta
@closetenvy2 You might have already clarified this in another comment so I apologize in advance if you have! Is it ok to "re-use" boxes that I have? For instance, I'm fixing to ship a jacket and I conveniently have an honest company box laying around that it fits in perfectly. It's a brown box with the logo on it in a couple of places. Thanks!
closetenvy2
@allinapuerta Yes, you can use it as long as your new label covers the old one and any other postal markings and as long as the box is in good enough condition. 😊
allinapuerta
@closetenvy2 thank you! Thank you! Thank you! 😊
closetenvy2
@allinapuerta You're welcome!
pogpog
Can I ship ALL posh orders using a plain brown box? Or does it have to be in a priority mail box
clothedinlove
I've been selling since 2013 and have always used Padded Flat Rate Envelopes. #1 - I didn't know any different and #2 Posh didn't have much info on packaging when I first started selling. I've never had a problem with packages not getting to buyers. One time I ordered the Express mailers by accident and decided to try them. My mailman told me not to use them but he never said anything Flat Rate. Don't mean to turn anyone over to the dark side, hah, but wanted to share. Happy Poshing!
clothedinlove
@pogpog Yep! You can use plain brown boxes :)
stangchic
I'm brand new here, I have nothing in my closet yet. I've just been making a list of my wants lol But thanks so much for posting this info. Very helpful for this newb
closetenvy2
@stangchic You're very welcome! I have a LOT of posts for new sellers. Filter, in my closet, to Women then Other. Scroll down, and you'll find at least 7 listings with tips from me, and more importantly, other veteran sellers. Feel free to ask any questions.
stangchic
Thank you so very much I will definitely check the rest out
robynebrenae
Quick question... I am trying to ship a pair of tennis shoes, what kind of box should I use? It doesn't fit in the regular mailing box size & I don't want to use flat rate & pay extra if I don't have to. Should I just go buy a box? 😲 #Help
closetenvy2
@robynebrenae Unfortunately, yes. You'll have to buy one if it doesn't fit in the Priority Mail shoe box. I keep Amazon boxes just for shoes. If the shoes you're shipping don't have their original shoe box, you can probably fit them in the Priority Mail shoe box, IF your post office has any.
robynebrenae
@closetenvy2 ☝🏾😬
robynebrenae
@closetenvy2 lol sorry, I completely didn't know you had already replied. Lol thanks so much!! 😍
closetenvy2
@robynebrenae Lol, it's OK. I miss stuff all the time. You're welcome. Obviously, if you're not sending them with the shoe box, you can fit them in a regular mailing box. Just be sure to always wrap them in something and put them in the free tyvek envelopes to protect them from moisture, especially if they're canvas. I've had bad experiences with items of received that weren't protected and got wet sitting outside my front door.
robynebrenae
@closetenvy2 lol if you'll look on my page.. it's the hi-top coach shoes & the other pair is the reebok shoes.. it's more so the thickness of the tennis shoes. 🙈 So that I can get the package shipped out by Monday, I'll probably have to go buy a couple of boxes until my usps shoe boxes arrive in the mail. 😬
robynebrenae
@closetenvy2 I typically put everything into polymailers & of course use tissue paper, but I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to cost the buyer any extra money. I will definitely wrap them both.
closetenvy2
@robynebrenae Yeah, I figured those were the ones you were shipping. You're already on the ball! I had some shoes arrive one time that had bled all over a white shirt. It wasn't the sellers fault. They didn't know, so I just tell anyone if I have the chance. 😊
robynebrenae
@closetenvy2 you're so awesome!! Thanks again!!! ❤️❤️❤️
closetenvy2
@robynebrenae Aww, thank you, and you're welcome!
louise_may
@closetenvy2 great info... Thank you

@dgreendesigns you ship like a pro.. Amazon is the same..
vrdnmartin
@deenanelson Hi I was just reading your reply to a post from a long time ago on shipping tips. If I understood you correctly are you saying fo large orders I can put it in my own box and tape it up with priority tape from usps?
deenanelson
@vrdnmartin yes you can. Or you can use priority shipping stickers if you can't find the tape. As long as it's not over 5 lbs or else you or the buyer will have to pay for additional shipping. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.
hlhdesigns
@closetenvy2 what about shipping shoes that don't have the original shoe box? How would you package them?
closetenvy2
@hlhdesigns I'd wrap them in tissue paper then put them in a waterproof tyvek envelope, then put them in a box.
hlhdesigns
@closetenvy2 thank you so much! I've been stressing out @ this all day. I couldn't find the shoe box size box at Post Office. I will look again. Thanks!
closetenvy2
@hlhdesigns A lot of post offices don't have them, so you may end up having to buy a box if you can't find one they'll fit in at the post office.
hlhdesigns
@closetenvy2 great! And thanks again!!!
closetenvy2
@hlhdesigns You're very welcome!

Thank you! I'm new to selling and I would like to get my products to seller in best fashion. You're da best! Amelia, from Chicago
closetenvy2
@ladyklive You're very welcome! Any questions about anything, ask away. I have lots of tutorials for new sellers. Go to my Other category and scroll down. As a standard rule, ALWAYS use tyvek envelopes to protect your items from water damage.😊
emilyvictoria24
Hi there! Do you know if it matters how big regular brown boxes can be? I'm shipping a purse and its long and tall so I need a larger box for it to fit in, but didn't want to chance getting charged a fee for a larger box...
pricechic
What is the best recommended method for shipping shoes so they are not damaged?
nmiller1977
@closetenvy2 hi I do have question if wouldn't mind guiding me in right direction. Have an order that someone purchased and standard shipping label with poshmark we all know is 5lbs free shipping. Well needless to say it's way over the 5 lbs. i planned on shipping 5 lbs with free shipping label and the additional clothes with weight separately.
nmiller1977
@closetenvy2 also I honestly didn't know not realise that it weighed this much and if would have them I would have not accepted offer from buyer due to having to use out pocket for shipping. Is there a way to have buyer pay for additional shipping or am I just at a lost where I have learned. Plz help me don't know what to do bc when went to do shipment over 5 lbs it cost arm and leg which means I made absolutely nothing on my sale and bummed out about it.
nmiller1977
@closetenvy2 Do I just loose out and learn from it or ask buyer for additional shipping cost. Never new how this worked and I'm sure buyer new and just didn't say anything. Just never had a large bundle like this. Help plz thanks so much
nmiller1977
@jenniecaitlin yes read that earlier but thanks

mysticjojobean
@closetenvy2 Hello, I was wondering if I could put the shipping labels on large manila padded envelopes? I have a bunch laying around. Thanks!
closetenvy2
@mysticjojobean Yes you can. Just don't put jewelry in an envelope, and put it in something water proof first if you use a manilla envelope. Otherwise it'll likely get wet.
mysticjojobean
@closetenvy2 ok cool, thank you!
closetenvy2
@mysticjojobean You're welcome!

I'm a big Amazon shopper & love to recycle so I've used their boxes a lot. I have so many different shapes & sizes from them and they come in very handy when I'm out of the USPS priority mail boxes. I recall you were the one who told me about using the Tyvek envelopes & it's the best advice I've gotten to keep items dry.👍😉
prettyradcloset
Why does everyone ship with boxes and not poly mailers?
closetenvy2
@minahinkle I personally prefer boxes because I ship a lot of jewelry, and you definitely shouldn't ship jewelry in an envelope. Every now and then I do get poly's with clothes from people on here. I think the boxes are more readily available. My post office has trouble keeping the envelopes in stock. Sometimes they're even on backorder on the website.
prettyradcloset
@closetenvy2 thank you for your response! I just ordered cute poly mailers but saw everyone seemed to be shipping in boxes and I got worried. I sell on Ebay and thought I would try Poshmark out so I just wanted to make sure I did it right. : )
chupita69
@closetenvy2 Shared😍. Thanks a million for this tip. I will start using it from know on. Enjoy your day💐
closetenvy2
@chupita69 You're very welcome!
tara141989
@closetenvy2 I have a question about shipping! I went to post office my package was way under the weight limit on shipping label and post office told me that the label did not cover the total cost to ship it to Kentucky which was $8.75 in a flat rate envelope! What do I do please?
closetenvy2
@tara141989 You can't use flat rate boxes or envelopes with these labels. They have ones that aren't flat rate (only boxes), or you can buy your own. The post office ones are free. Just tell them you need a box that's NOT flat rate, and you're good. 😊
closetenvy2
@tara141989 But to be clear, you can use the tyvek envelopes INSIDE the box, as long as they don't see it. I use them to protect clothes from getting wet in rain, etc. It also protects them from the occasional smokey Joe postal worker. Just get an envelope and box and pack it in your car.
tara141989
@closetenvy2 Thank you so much I was able to get it worked out! I really appreciate all your help😊😘
closetenvy2
@tara141989 You're very welcome!
idefylabels
@mistyheart I have a priority mail shoe box I couldn't find answer anywhere! So it's ok to use?
idefylabels
@deenanelson oh God so you got a minus for being extra cautious??? Lmao sum ppl man
closetenvy2
@idefylabels Yes, those are fine to use. I use them.
closetenvy2
@idefylabels Isn't that crazy?! Good thing is that they don't show anything but good reviews.
idefylabels
@closetenvy2 thank you so much! Your Gon laugh, I m not exaggerating when I say my entryway is USPS boxes for my business but I get so confused I kept shipping in polybags lol
deenanelson
@idefylabels yes, She also didn't mention the free sterling silver pearl earrings I sent as a girt. I was amazed.
deenanelson
@idefylabels and I still wrap with as much bubble wrap as I think it needs. But I also re use everything I receive when I purchase, as long as it's clean of course. 🌺😊
idefylabels
@deenanelson wow I once sold a brand new Ed Hardy sweatshirt the grl wrote it wasn't a size M def a small, but it wasn't new worn & tags were ripped ALL LIES I blew up her page with pictures I had taken but didn't post, worst part she lowballed me & I accepted. Then she goes to sell it for 80 more lol sum ppl it's crazy
idefylabels
@deenanelson that's great for the environment me too! I find a strange occurrence when I put no effort I get good reviews when I wrap bows etc nothing. I think common courtesy is accepting package so many ppl don't n then they don't leave love notes😑 I'm super sensitive but whatever I know I'd be happy.
deenanelson
@idefylabels ya I started selling on eBay in 2003 And here on posh in 2013 and there's a big difference between the 2. And yes I super sensitive myself. I Just turned 50 and think I'm finally starting to not take things so personally. But I did block her. When you know that you've done your best and they still Ding you it's easier to block rather than have to deal with them. Hope you had a nice Mother's Day Ladies! 🌺💕🌺
closetenvy2
@deenanelson Amen to that! Block away!
jewelry_party
@idefylabels I've shipped with those before. If it's not flat rate or express or military it's fine.
linky0095
Can you use white scotch mailing boxes to ship?
closetenvy2
@linky0095 Yes. You can pretty much use any box that's not a flat rate USPS mailing box, as long as it's not too big.
mrst0711
Awsome advise 💕
mariahlittle
Hi question! Can you use priority mail express boxes? I got boxes shipped to my house from the usps and they say express on them...
closetenvy2
@mariahlittle No, you can't. They'll either deny it at drop off or mail it back to you. 😕
closetenvy2
@mrst0711 Thank you!!
mariahlittle
Urggg, okay thank you! :)
closetenvy2
@mariahlittle Sorry about that. You can wrap it in craft paper and/or use Express tyvek envelopes inside of the box. So, you can still make use of them.
mv777
Thanks- this helped me! People like u make the world a little bit sweeter !! ✌🏽💫👽
desharley1234
I'm new to this and just bought something hoping for it to be shipped on Monday.. Does anyone know if tracking number will give you time it will arrive. I don't trust my neighborhood and feel like it would be stolen if just left on front porch :/? Anyone ever had this experience??
closetenvy2
@desharley1234 It usually will show the time it's delivered, assuming the postal worker actually scans it. Unfortunately, there's not a lot you can do to protect it from being stolen other than ship it to an address where someone will be there, such as a business.
desharley1234
@closetenvy2 thank you. True. Yeah I'll just do my best to track it. Hopefully I have a good experience with getting a shipment lol first time doing this.
closetenvy2
@desharley1234 I'm sure it will be fine. I've never had a problem. MOST of the time the postal worker will deliver it when your regular mail is delivered. If you're worried, watch the tracking daily. When it arrives in the destination city, or hub city, it will likely be delivered the next day. The morning it should be delivered, it will say Out For Delivery. So, maybe you can run home around the time your mail comes or call a neighbor to watch for it.
desharley1234
@closetenvy2 thank you I will keep lookout

Does anyone have any advice on how to get the labels to print on Avery 5126 shipping labels like they do for Ebay? It prints portrait and centered on a letter size, and the labels are 2 on a sheet and would need the printer to do landscape orientation. Now the label prints over both with a split down the middle Arghhhh!
thepreppypunker
scratch that, I just found a Youtube video that shows you how to do multiple labels on one page: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJdG1wYOWho
sosucculent
Does anyone know if I can use the regular priority mail large flat rate boxes to ship in, or no because they are flat rate boxes?
closetenvy2
@nicolemee724 No, you can't use any flat rate boxes. Sometimes you can sneak it by them, but it's not worth the risk. It could be caught while en route, and then it would be sent back to you. You can wrap the box in craft paper so they can't see that it's a flat rate box.
sosucculent
@closetenvy2 ohhhhh. I like the idea of wrapping the box. I may do that because I actually have craft paper. Thank you for the suggestions
closetenvy2
@nicolemee724 You're very welcome!
chynnagrove
@closetenvy2 Hi there, I'm so happy to see that you have the answers to so many questions. I'm a new posher. I just sold my first pair of shoes. Can u please tell me if the "priority mail shoe box" that everyone is referring to is the one that measures 12x 12x8? I also read that you say we can use a tyvek bag to put the shoes in b4 putting them in the box. What's a tyvek envelope? Can I wrap shoes in a plastic ziplock bag before shipping it with my usual tissue paper?
chynnagrove
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
chynnagrove
@closetenvy2 Hi, I sent you a question before but I'm so new at this I'm not sure I sent it correctly. Anyway, I asked about the Tyvek envelope bit I kept reading and u answered the question. Can u tell me if the shoebox size box is the one that is 12x12x8? Bless you!!
sosucculent
@closetenvy2 another question. I have had people buying A LOT of things in one bundle from my closet. Like 15-20 baby items, which there is no way will ship in the 5lb Poshmark label max. What do I do? I was looking on Poshmark and it looks like I should have the buyers split up these items into smaller bundles.
sosucculent
@closetenvy2 I don't think I should be the one to pay for $20 worth of shipping when they are buying 20 items, right? I can see the seller having to pay for upgrades shipping when I list an item that is over 5lbs or 10lbs but this is not the case at all.
closetenvy2
@nicolemee724 I always tell them that it has to be split up into several bundles. If you don't, Poshmark states that you, the seller, has to pay the extra shipping. In that case, I just cancel the order until the buyer decides what they want to do. If they don't want to pay extra shipping, just don't sell it to them. It's your right. Because of this, I bought a shipping scale on EBay for under $20. Lifesaver!!
sosucculent
@closetenvy2 ok thank you. I felt bad telling the people (it was two different people) that they had to split up their orders because I was fronting the shipment cause they picked out 20 things. I definitely need a scale. Can you post a pic of your scale on this listing possibly!??! 😃😃
taryn_savard
Hello I was wondering if you knew if it was okay to send a small package in one of the bubble mailer envelopes?
h_kay88
Very helpful, thanks for posting!
brookem1997
Hello, can I reuse a plastic envelope to ship items? Like the ones you get when you buy something from VS or American Eagel?
closetenvy2
@brookem1997 No, you can't ship in those. Just get a free tyvek Priority Mail envelope from the post office.
brookem1997
@closetenvy2 okay thank you!
closetenvy2
@brookem1997 You're welcome! 😉

@closetenvy2 thank you so much for these tips !!
They are so helpful and I was wondering about 90% of the things you mentioned.
I have a few questions about shipping if you could help ?
So the label we print out covers the cost of shipping/tracking entirely, we don't need to weigh it or anything ? I was confused about that, because I sell on Ebay and it goes by weight when I ship..
mermaidcolours
and the waterproof bags, where did you find them ? lastly, we can ship in regular bubble envelopes from the store correct ? thank you :) for all of your help
closetenvy2
@celebbabywear I may be misunderstanding you, but the Priority Mail boxes are all free. Please explain if that's not what you meant.
closetenvy2
@celebbabywear Gotcha. Yeah, after that, it gets ridiculously high, so just be careful how much you put into a bundle.
closetenvy2
@celebbabywear Basically because I can weigh, with the box, the items before I even make the sale IF I think it could go over 5 lbs. Then I suggest to the buyer that we split it up into 2 bundles, as long as it's under 10 lbs. That way I'm not stuck paying the extra shipping. Make sense? Even with baby clothes, it's possible to go over. Obviously you'd just have to bundle a lot more. With baby clothes, buyers tend to want to bundle more though. 😊
closetenvy2
@celebbabywear You're very welcome! Any time you have any questions, let me know. I'll follow you too. I have tons of tutorials in the OTHER section of my closet.

@closetenvy2 Is the Priority Flat Rate Padded Envelope ok to use? I used one today and they game me a hard time today at the counter!
closetenvy2
@rcwallace622 No, you can't. It costs more than what we pay through Poshmark to use flat rate. So, you can put it in the flat rate envelope, then the tyvek envelope, which is not flat rate. Just don't let them see you do it. Unless you're shipping clothes, I highly suggest using a box though.
rcwallace622
@closetenvy2 Great good to know! Thanks. They let it slide today but told me not to use it again. I know which one you're talking about.
closetenvy2
@rcwallace622 You're welcome! It can be caught by another postal worker as it's scanned along the way, especially at the receiving city. That's where it's typically caught, so hopefully they don't care. What will happen is that they'll either hold it for pickup at the receiving post office and ask the buyer to pay extra shipping, or they'll mail it back to you. It's probably only a 10% chance though.
rcwallace622
@closetenvy2 phew hopefully I'll be in the clear. The price in shipping is pretty similar between the two anyways and it was lightweight so I don't think they'll care.
closetenvy2
@rcwallace622 You're correct. It's mainly the boxes that have a difference. Honestly, most of them can't figure out what the Poshmark postal fee is, so they won't do anything.

If someone wants to have my item expedited for a certain day. How can I do that?
nineonefourvtg
@livmunroe look at this!! we've been doing it so wrong luckily nothing has got shipped back to us 😩
sarahbethkoz
Hi I'm new to Poshmark and just sold my first item. I picked up the boxes from the post office. Can I just put them in a drop box if they fit? I'm going to be working during the post office hours. Thanks!
closetenvy2
@sarahbethkoz Yes as long as it fits and the prepaid label is on, and it's under 5 lbs, you can do that. Be sure NOT to use the Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes or envelopes though. If you ever can't reach me, @lakeforest knows a lot and may answer quicker. I'm closed right now. But still feel free to ask and tag us both or any of the people providing info in the comments.
sarahbethkoz
@closetenvy2 great thanks so much!
pyxiegurl
These boxes are free and always have been. you can have them delivered. I am curious to know if we HAVE to use them. I can ship items for much less than this. Do we have choices?
closetenvy2
@greenhug73 You can use boxes you buy at the store, but if you're going to have the seller pay shipping, you have to ship it Priority Mail through Poshmark, so there's no other options as far as that goes. If you want to pay shipping yourself, you'll just have to discount the item the exact amount Poshmark charges for shipping. They'll still have to pay for it, and you'll lose money unfortunately
meghanchan
Any tips on how to ship sneakers? I have someone interested and I am trying to figure all of this out beforehand. Thank you!
jovish
@ungreal these are the correct ones!! This poshmarker is so sweet to share her knowledge💕💕💕
closetenvy2
@jovish @ungreal Thank you! Let me know if you have any questions. It can get pretty confusing for sure.
jovish
I am experienced, but wanted to share with @ungreal your photos and also it's nice 👍🏻 to reach out to other poshmarker ladies like yourself for help !!
closetenvy2
@meghanchan Yes. First, find a box to fit without having to smoosh them. Wrap them in tissue paper, or some equivalent, then put them in the free tyvek envelopes. This will keep them from getting moisture in them. If you have the original shoe box or a shoe box, you can either put it in another box or simply wrap it in thick, craft paper from Lowe's or Home Depot. It needs to be thick though. Obviously another box is better. Regardless, the tyvek envelopes are very important!!
closetenvy2
@jovish Gotcha! It can still be confusing though, lol. I sometimes get questions I really have to think about.
meghanchan
@closetenvy2 what if I don't have a shoe box? Could I just double box it? Or wrap it in tissue paper of some sort, put that in the tyvek envelope and then box it?
amandaboutique
I made the mistake today of shipping an item in a flat rate box. The lady at the counter said nothing and I got a receipt with a tracking number. Am I off the hook? Or can they still charge me?

What "Priority Mail box" is good for shoes?
lindagherrera
Hello how can I overnight ship on here?
roseylovegb
I have a question the box that I have says priority mail but on the bottom it says medium flat rate box will that work?
closetenvy2
@roseylovegb No, they aren't allowed if it says flat rate. There's a chance they won't catch it, but it's not worth the risk.
roseylovegb
@closetenvy2 ok thank you
closetenvy2
@roseylovegb You're welcome!
lauren9697
this is a great feed! I am wondering if anyone knows of poshmark's shipping labels come with insurance? I recently sold an $85 dress that got lost in the mail, had to give the buyer a refund and got nothing 😔 is there a way to add insurance?
closetenvy2
@lauren9697 Poshmark should have covered that unless there's circumstances I don't know about. I've had 3 things lost over the years on here, and they always just refunded everyone involved. Now, my items lost didn't cost that much. But I know there used to be insurance. The problem is, unless you have a receipt showing you dropped it off, or it showed up in tracking, there's no proof you ever sent it, so always get a receipt if you can. I learned that the hard way.
lauren9697
@closetenvy2 wow, thank you! that's very helpful :) the item was from eBay so it was a different situation, I just didn't want it to happen again!
closetenvy2
@lauren9697 Oh ok. I think you're still covered through E if you can prove that it was dropped off. You may have to go through filing a claim through the post office though. It's a pain in the butt and takes a while though. I have had one item lost, and I ended up getting my money back by filing a claim through E.
lauren9697
@closetenvy2 I can prove that it was dropped off. I will try that, thank you!
lauren9697
@closetenvy2 not a huge deal anymore, I just don't want it to happen again :)
closetenvy2
@lauren9697 I hear ya. For $85, I'd also file a claim through P. It won't let me type the word out on here, but file through E, P and the post office.

What's the max weight for the $6.49 shipping ?
ivon780
So I can use only the usps mailing boxes ? how about poly mailers, padded envelopes & plain boxes ?
closetenvy2
@ivon780 It's 5 lbs. Somewhere there's a chart that shows how much each weight costs, IF it goes over 5 lbs.
No, you don't have to use USPS boxes. They're just free, so that's why I suggest those. You can use plain boxes and polymailers that you buy at a store.
skachik143
This is so great! I just made my first sale and had no idea on how to send it out! Many thanks!

madison_s16
do you have to ship your items in a box or can it just be in a envelope?
lexbain
What usps box can I use to ship handbags in?
closetenvy2
@lexbain I'm sorry. I've been on vacation mode so just saw your message. Honestly, it depends greatly on the size and shape. I typically use the 1096 or 1097. However, if it's a thick purse, you would have to smush it to get it in the box. You can also use the shoe box. It's thicker but obviously more shoe box shaped so wouldn't work on a tall purse. Just always put it in a free tyvek envelope, then a box, for extra protection from rain/humidity. Leather likes to bleed colors if wet.
annalisahogan
I'm sorry if you have answered this before, but where can you get the clear address pouches on the USPS website to put the shipping label in and stick on the box? Or does everyone just print the labels on adhesive paper? Thank you!
thatchickvic
So we technically don't have to pay to ship it out because Poshmark already does it for you and takes it out? I'm new and just trying to figure things out before i go to school. So when I send something out I can out it directly in the UPS mailbox that's on my street?
closetenvy2
@thatchickvic Correct. The buyer has already paid for shipping costs. Be sure to put it in a USPS box and not a US box. UPS is the brown one. The USPS (United States Postal Service) is usually red, white and blue. If you put it in the wrong one, it'll be a small nightmare. I figured it was probably a typo, but some people do think UPS and USPS is the same, so i wanted to be clear.
closetenvy2
@annalisahogan Most people just tape the label to the box. Use clear shipping tape. I put 3 pieces. One across the top, one across the bottom and one through the middle, over the name and address. The printed labels won't fit in the clear envelopes anyway. 😊
closetenvy2
@whoofs Flat rate boxes require a lot more postage than what Poshmark is charging us. Just a very small flat rate box is about $8.95 I think. So, you'd be sending a box without enough postage on it.
nicci87
What's the best way to ship a pair of heeled boots I just sold?
solis1556
Hi! If I'm shipping in a regular brown box can I put the "priority mail" stickers on the box?
closetenvy2
@solis1556 Yes, you can. I have to do that a lot myself. You can either just put the printed label or the label and Priority Mail stickers.
solis1556
@closetenvy2 thank you so much for your help ❤️💕 Have a great weekend :)

@closetenvy2 Can I just use a tyvek envelope?

Hi, Thank you for sharing all of the tips. I was wondering how everyone ships boots with their original boot box included? I haven't found any boxes on USPS that are large enough. Also, is there anyway to keep from paying for extra shipping? Thanks in advance.

@closetenvy2 Hello! I'm still new to selling on poshmark. I've ordered the correct priority boxes but they won't be here for a few days. But I sold an item today and I have an Amazon box that measures approximately 7 in in width, 10 in in length and 8 in in height. Can I use that Box? Hi i have a question about shipping. I have a hairdryer I need to ship out but I don't have a box to put the hairdryer in. when I originally bought the hairdryer it was sent to me in the hairdryers actual box with the label on the box. can I just put the shipping label on that and ship it the way it was shipped to me?
closetenvy2
@victoriasingh14 They typically won't let you ship in product boxes, but it really depends on your post office. Generally, they don't allow it. What you can do is wrap it in either two pieces of packing/moving paper (you can usually buy at uhaul or other moving businesses), plain brown or get some craft paper that comes on a roll. Then you put the label on that. Just make sure it's thick enough to where it won't tear. That's why I use two pieces if I use packing paper.
victoriasingh14
@closetenvy2 i ended up doing exactly that. Now i just hope it doesnt tear 😩 didnt think of that. Thank you so much tho
closetenvy2
@victoriasingh14 You're welcome! I'm sure it'll get there regardless. When I ship items that way, I put something inside the box that has the return and delivery address. That way, if the label comes off, they will open it and see where it goes. It saved me one time.
victoriasingh14
@closetenvy2 hopefully it doesnt rip. The post office accepted it and i taped the label on really good
closetenvy2
@victoriasingh14 I'm sure it will be fine. They'll handle it if not 😊

@closetenvy2 Thanks so much for compiling all this info! I'm having a hard time fitting a bundle into the mailing box but good to know there are other options! ❤
closetenvy2
@kna220 You're very welcome! You may need to go buy a bigger box than what the post office provides. Just make sure it's not too long, like boot boxes. Some are over the allowed length. It's a pain. Keep it under 5 lbs unless you're paying the extra postage.
kna220
@closetenvy2 You're an all-knowing Posh goddess! Thank you! Hope you're health is improving and you're taking care of yourself! 🙏🏻
closetenvy2
@kna220 LOL! Thanks for the laugh! I'm far from a goddess on here. I've just learned from screwing up, lol. Plus I used to live in a town where the post office was super picky, so they schooled me. I'm doing better thank God! Thank you very much! XOXOXO
adri2be
Thanks my tyvek envelopes are on their way this week!
girlyoh
What happens when you ship using a regional or flat rate priority box? I think I've accidentally shipped with those boxes before and didn't have an issue. Just started this account so I'm still learning. I will only ship with the right boxes now. Haha
closetenvy2
@mishellahh You just run the risk of it being caught somewhere along the route. It's most likely to be caught at your post office or the receiving post office. It costs a lot more to use those, so posh doesn't put enough postage on it, if that makes sense. If you use them, wrap them in kraft paper to cover the box.
girlyoh
@closetenvy2 Oh no! Now I'm scared. I just made some shipments recently. I hope they're lenient with it. I just ordered a bunch of the right boxes through USPS.
adri2be
What about shoes? How can I protect them from rain when packing them for shipment?
closetenvy2
@adri2be What I do is put them in one of the free tyvek envelopes and then in the box. Sometimes you'll have to put one shoe per bag if they're too large to fit both in one bag. If they're tall boots, put a trash bag around the actual shoe box and seal with tape. You can also just use two tyvek envelopes per boot. One on one end and one on the other, then seal with tape. Hope this helps.
adri2be
@closetenvy2 Thank you. I pray the shoes I sent don't get rained on because I only wrapped them in layers of tissue paper & gift wrapping paper. It was my first order. By the second order which was just 1 piece of clothing I knew to put the dress in tyvek envelope then in the box. But it has been wrapped securely as well. Thank you so much for posting this. I got my envelopes & boxes just in time for shipping my first orders.
closetenvy2
@adri2be Gotcha. One other thing to watch for. Don't use colored tissue paper without a tyvek envelope. If humidity or rain gets in, you could have a tie dyed mess. Chances are that your order will be fine. It's just better not to risk it. Most people don't use tyvek, but I've had 4 orders get wet that I received. Thankfully I was able to fix them all. 😊
adri2be
@closetenvy2 yeah. I read that somewhere. I'm only using white tissue paper & putting a sticker on it to dress it up. I have colored tissue paper but I'm not sure what to use it for. Thanks.
thejazzybird
What about using your own boxes that are not brown? I have some small patterned boxes that are pretty and I would like to use. Are they picky about that?
closetenvy2
@blrebennack That's not one I've ever tried. I've received patterned boxes, but it really depends on how picky your post office is. They may be allowed though. I've just always used priority mail boxes or other boxes and wrapped them in thick craft paper. If you decide to use it, be sure it doesn't tear easy.
xmsememx
How do you ship shoes (heels)? What kind of mailing box to use? Thanks
closetenvy2
@xmsememx They have a "shoe box" for priority mail that will fit most heels. However, not all post offices have them in stock. If you have a shoe box, use it and wrap it in the thick craft paper OR buy a box at Walmart or wherever. Shoes are the one thing that varies because of different sizes. Be sure to put each shoe in a tyvek envelope before the box because they can easily be damaged from moisture.
closetenvy2
@christinaaa321 Yes. Rarely they're out, but most post offices should have them.
closetenvy2
@christinaaa321 You're very welcome!

Thank you so much for this post! I'm new to this and concerned with shipping and what boxes/envelopes to use! Quick question - can you use any type of lined envelope? I looked usps box online and the box can fit in small purse. What about satchels or large purses? Can anyone give me suggestion? thank you!
closetenvy2
@patywang I typically have to use either the USPS shoe box or Amazon boxes. If it's a flat purse, it will probably fit in the larger of the ones pictured above.
lwpwang
@closetenvy2 thank you! I have a big tote that didn’t fit the USPS box, but most of the clothing fits.
closetenvy2
@sapodillaspice I only use the flat rate envelopes if I'm going to put it inside a box. They're waterproof, so it protects clothes, shoes, etc. But no, don't use flat rate boxes.
closetenvy2
@hawaiisash I usually put the shoe box inside another box. Those you'd have to buy somewhere. I reuse Amazon boxes for that though. If it's a very sturdy shoe box, you can wrap it in thick craft paper and ship that way. I've done that a few times.
dinka0328
Hi there! Can I use shipping bag envelopes for shipping or must it be a box???? Thank you in advance for your help!
closetenvy2
@dinka0328 Yes, you can. You just can't use the flat rate envelopes since you're not technically paying the flat rate fee, which is higher. I don't suggest using envelopes for jewelry or shoes, ever.
dinka0328
@closetenvy2 thank you so much!!!

@closetenvy2 Can you tag me on the post of the work around for shipping boots? Informative post btw!
kas_26
Has anyone just used the envelopes (pictured above to ship Clothing? With the contents sealed inside another envelope?
rhythm2
Can you use plastic bags... the durable ones. I used those on eBay
closetenvy2
@rachellstevens Yes, you can use the envelope by itself as long as it doesn't say Flat Rate on it. They do make Flat Rate ones, so just watch for that. I think they're the bubbled ones though. As long as you're just shipped clothes, it'll be fine. Just never ship jewelry or shoes in just an envelope for obvious reasons. 😊
closetenvy2
@rhythm2 Read one comment above this one for more info. I've only used the post office ones pictured, so I can really only attest to those. Are you shipping clothes?

Can anyone share or tag me in any information about shipping boots? Do you guys include the original box? Do you put that box inside of another? Can you buy sturdy paper to wrap around the box and just ship that way? I have some taller boots that I was thinking about trying to sell but I’m a little lost on shipping them the proper way.
closetenvy2
@prememanage Some of the post offices carry a shoe box, but not all do. I usually wrap the actual shoe box in either kraft paper or two layers of packaging paper and put a lot of shipping tape on the outside to keep the paper from tearing. Of course, you can always just go purchase a box at Walmart. Be sure to put the shoes in a waterproof envelope or gallon ziploc bags to protect them from moisture.
closetenvy2
@prememanage Yes, you can use that one. However, it's too small to almost all shoe boxes inside of. So, if you're also sending the actual shoe box, chances are it won't fit. Boots, even booties, will not fit in it, even without the shoe box. It's more for flats and some heels.
jstudio
@closetenvy2 Hi. I need to ship tall boots. Can you tag me on your post about shipping boots. What box should I use?
taylorshontae20
Would I be able to use priority mail express padded flat rate envelope??
mokera
I’m also looking for tips on how to ship a riding boot. I don’t want to bend the boot but the post office said the box is too big.
closetenvy2
@mokera You don't really have any choice but to bend them or pay the extra shipping unfortunately.
closetenvy2
@taylorshontae20 No, you can't use any flat rate boxes or envelopes. The post office MAY not pick up on it right away, but you run the risk of it being noticed during shipping. They'll then either send it back to you or require your buyer to pay additional shipping.
madgab18
How do you recommend shipping boots? I’m struggling to find boxes!
ndass39
Hey! I'm also struggling to find a box size for rain boots! Any sizes you'd recommend?
closetenvy2
@madgab18 @ndass39 I usually end up rolling the top of the boots (putting something soft inside the roll) in order to make them fit in a smaller box. If they can't be rolled or folded without messing them up, you'll have to go buy a box somewhere. The post office doesn't have a good, non flat rate, box.
closetenvy2
@ndass39 @madgab18
You can use a shoe box or large flat rate box & wrap it in layers of Kraft or packing paper (use lots of shipping tape in case it tears). Be sure to put each boot in something waterproof as well. I'll also tag both of you on another post I have.
naughtyornice
What would you do if you sold shoes in box, but the box is too big to ship in regular priority boxes?
closetenvy2
@naughtyornice I tagged you on another post I did about that very thing.
naughtyornice
@closetenvy2 Thank you!!! So, lesson learned on that one. I offered to refund or ship out of box in postal box instead. Learn new things every day. I appreciate your tips!
closetenvy2
@naughtyornice You're welcome! I learned the hard way. I'd just offer to fold the box and tag the person here. My customers have always been fine with either not having the shoe box or having to reassemble it. But if you tag them on this post, they'll see it's a common issue.
closetenvy2
@bls7188 You're going to need to buy a box for boots. Are you shipping them inside the boot box also? I'll tag you on another listing I did about shipping boots.
closetenvy2
@bls7188 Yes, there is a shoebox. Some post offices carry them in the actual post office, but most don't. I would go buy one though because their shoe box is pretty small. I sometimes use the actual shoe box (if it's sturdy) and wrap it in a couple of layers of craft paper and use lots of packing tape in case it tears. That's another good way to do it.
closetenvy2
@bls7188 I looked at the boots you're trying to ship. Those will absolutely NOT fit in the post office shoe box anyway. The biggest thing they'd fit is men's sneakers, and that would barely fit. Go ahead and buy a box at Walmart. Measure the length of the boots first. I bet they'll fit in the small box that's like $.82. I just shipped boots 2 days ago in one of them.
closetenvy2
@bls7188 It should be fine as long as you're not adding other items to the box. The boxes I buy there aren't heavy.
shop_m_boutique
Do you know what the smallest box is? Like one that is good for bracelets?
closetenvy2
@shop_m_boutique The smallest that we can use is the Priority Mail DVD box. I don't like them because they're a little too small. I get the 1096L Priority Mail box. It's good enough for a few pieces of jewelry.
closetenvy2
@shop_m_boutique Just don't get the priority mail flat rate small box. We can't use flat rate unless you also wrap it in craft paper.
closetenvy2
@shop_and_ship I'm also seeing a new box called Priority Mail box-4. It's only 7"x7"x6", so that's the smallest. It could work because it's taller than the DVD box. I just ordered some to check them out, but it takes a few weeks. If you need some of the 1096L, I'll look tomorrow and see if I have more in my garage. I realized today that I only had 2 in the house. I hope I have another box of them.
thefashi0nkilla
@closetenvy2 Hey I’m a new seller and I’m shipping out a package in the AM... Would priority mail flat rate envelope be okay or ??
closetenvy2
@thefashi0nkilla No, you can't use anything that's flat rate because it's not part of the agreement between Poshmark's discount rate and USPS. You run the risk of it being shipped back to you or the buyer being asked to pay more to pick it up. You need to use a box that's not flat rate or the tyvek envelope. Never ship jewelry or shoes in envelopes because it will be damaged. I hope that helps.

Hi Everyone! This has been the most helpful thread ever! I made my first-ever sale, shoes, I sent them, and then she gave me 3 stars without any feedback about why. Can you explain the proper way to send shoes?? Thank you!
avma
Hi I am sending my first makeup order (foundation) and I’m wondering what the best way to ship this would be so it arrived safe and unbroken. I work at a store and we have standard white envelopes with built in bubble wrap. Would that work with the Poshmark prepaid label? Thanks in advance
closetenvy2
@avma I've never shipped makeup, such as pressed powder, eyeshadow, etc. However, I can say that just a bubble envelope is not enough. It needs to be in a bubble envelope & also inside a box that's not much larger than the bubble envelope. That way it's not jostled around. Powdered makeup breaks very easily. I've ordered it & always received it shipped the way I just described. I'd also find someone on here that ships makeup a lot & ask them.
closetenvy2
@doggiegrace Can you help @avma? Read her question 2 comments up. Thank you!
doggiegrace
@avma I would suggest wrapping the bottle itself in bubble wrap and tape it well. Pack it in a box the size of the product as close as possible. Use extra tissue paper or styrofoam filler around bottle so that it does not move around in shipping.🍀🌸😊

Hi! So I recently just sold a pair of riding boots, with the box. I had to go to UPS to purchase a box to ship it in and they said I could ship from there using the Poshmark label (said they do it all the time) my sale still hasn’t showed that it has shipped? Any advice on why or if they will send it back? Thank you!
closetenvy2
@lmoore47 Did you get a receipt? I assume you mean you took it to USPS not UPS?
lmoore47
@closetenvy2 I did get a receipt. But no I took it to UPS to get a big box. And they said they always ship Poshmark and could do it for me so I wouldn’t have to take it to USPS
closetenvy2
@lmoore47 But I've had items never track until they actually arrived. I wouldn't worry too much unless more than 4 business days pass. If it doesn't start tracking by tomorrow evening, I'd at least let Poshmark know what's going on.
lmoore47
@closetenvy2 okay I’ll stop worrying for now! Thank you!!
closetenvy2
@lmoore47 Eek! Yeah, UPS is not covered at all by those labels. You need to go back to the UPS store and ask them why they told you that. That shipping money goes to the post office (USPS) not UPS. Somewhere along the way it'll probably be intercepted. Did you tell the counter person you were shipping expensive boots? I'm concerned that they may have planned to steal them. UPS is not covered at all through Poshmark. 😢
closetenvy2
@lmoore47 Definitely let Poshmark know what's going on. I bet they've dealt with this before and can at least tell you what to expect. I'd go and demand my boots back at UPS if you have the receipt. I can't imagine them shipping them free.
lmoore47
@closetenvy2 the shipping just updated!!!! Yaaaay!!!
closetenvy2
@lmoore47 OH thank goodness! I was worried!!!!
closetenvy2
@lmoore47 I just had a UPS package delivered to me, and I asked him about your situation. He said that if you dropped it off at a UPS only location, he's not sure how they would have given you a receipt. If you dropped it off at a shipping business that accepts UPS AND USPS, that's different. He said if a customer drops off a USPS package at a UPS only location, they'll have the post office pick it up, but it can delay it a day or two.
closetenvy2
@lmoore47 He said to be very careful because the post office USPS will NOT cover your package, if it's lost, unless you have a receipt from either the post office or a shipping business that is certified to accept USPS packages, if that makes sense. So, I just wanted to pass this along. I'm very curious about how they gave you a receipt at a UPS location. Was it by chance a shipping business? I'm trying to learn. I promise I'm not being nosey, lol.
lmoore47
@closetenvy2 thanks for asking for me! this could help poachers with the same question. I just tried it cause I couldn’t find the same question already asked. I looked the store up and it’s the “the ups store” maybe the are certified to mail USPS? I’m not sure but I’m def going to fine out. Thanks again for all your help!!
laureenpierce
@closetenvy2 on the poshmark website it says it’s okay to use flat rate boxes and it says shipping is 6.49 so I was wondering does not using flat rate still apply? I emailed them also and they said flat rate was fine...
closetenvy2
@laureenpierce That has to be a recent change because they told me the exact opposite. Three post offices wouldn't allow me to use flat rate boxes because the cost of shipping is higher for flat rate than the $6.49 we pay. So, I'm not sure what's changed. This was posted quite a while ago.

@closetenvy2 thanks so much for the tips!!
closetenvy2
@nancylrob You're very welcome! I have several other helpful posts, one about shipping. Just go to the Women, then Other category. You'll see them. Let me know if you ever have any questions. If I can't help, I'll know someone who can.
melodykaili
Hi!! I saw that you have helped out so many people and that’s so kind of you to do that! Would you please help me with a question? I am selling some tall Hunter rain boots and I don’t know what box I’ll ship them in. Especially a box to fit in the original box. I checked USPS website and did t see any that would fit - within the regular priority mail box range.
closetenvy2
@melodykaili You're going to have to buy some thick Kraft paper, from Walmart (usually near the shipping supplies). Wrap it in 2 layers around the original shoe box, and ship it that way. It's possible that the original shoe box is over the limit of the postal regulations, but you won't know without trying. I'll tag you on what to do if it is. 😊
freshfinds4you
@closetenvy2 Thanks for this post! Have you had experience shipping with “Regional Rate Box B” boxes. I ordered the wrong batch and need to reliever tomorrow.
closetenvy2
@freshfinds4you I've never used regional rate boxes, but I was told they're pretty strict on them. I would definitely ask your post office about it because they're the ones most likely to catch the problem.
closetenvy2
@freshfinds4you I do know that regional rate is only ok for boxes shipped in your "region". So I think it's way too risky personally.
freshfinds4you
@closetenvy2 thanks so much for the advice! Very very much appreciated!
nina2941
@closetenvy2, would you mind tagging me on your article about shipping taller boots with their boxes? Thanks in advance!
pinkjade89
@jessykate Yikes! ! I never thought about clothes getting wet 😬. Hope the box I just sent makes it ok. From now on, wrapping in the envelopes first!
tiggerkat20
Can I ship through UPS? They are much closer to me than the post office.
simplesumo
Can you use the priority mail shoebox? I would assume so, since it doesn’t have flat rate on the box but I’m not quite sure.
closetenvy2
@simplesumo Yes, you can.

@closetenvy2 Re: Flat Rate - Look at Poshmark's blog post from 12/1/17. They do accept flat rate boxes now :)
kars__closet
@closetenvy2 Might be hard to find. Search for: PoshPost Update: New Boxes & Free Supplies

@kar715 Someone mentioned that. Oddly, my post office still won't allow it. I'm not sure why. This was posted so long ago.
tostygirl
can we use poly mailers? i have pretty ones that i bought recently and id love to use them
closetenvy2
@tostygirl Yes! I've used them.
tostygirl
oh man thank you! originally i misread the rules and thought they all had to go in priority mail flat rate boxes, which i have a ton of but i was thinking holy cow how does the shipping rate possibly cover that? lol thanks for your help!
closetenvy2
@tostygirl You're welcome! Some people are saying they allow flat rate boxes and envelopes now, but my post office says it's not covered, so I guess it depends on if they recognize Poshmark has changed its shipping agreement. I'd ask since you have the flat rate ones, and they're free.
gavllainat
I’ve been having doubts with how I can package makeup, particularly foundations and concealers, etc. 😓
closetenvy2
@gavllainat Honestly, makeup is one thing I never ship. I've heard stories of shodows breaking. You need to look for someone that regularly sells shadows and glosses (glosses leak under pressure) and ask them. NEVER send in a poly envelope. It needs the protection of a padded envelope AND box in my opinion. I'll tag you on a few people that can probably help.
gavllainat
@closetenvy2 thanks!
gavllainat
I just received my order in a flat rate envelope 😭 What’s going to happen now? I contacted Poshmark and they haven’t got to me yet.
closetenvy2
@gavllainat Was there a problem? Did the post office ask for extra money? I was told they're now allowing flat rate envelopes and boxes, but my post office isn't accepting them. What problems are you having?
gavllainat
@closetenvy2 nope. Oh, I didn’t know they were accepting them now, I thought they would charge me the difference. So far, haven’t had a problem or another charge so I guess it’ll be ok. 🤷🏼♀️
closetenvy2
@gavllainat Well, I've just recently been told that. Since I've closed my closet for now, I haven't really looked into it myself. Nothing will happen once it gets to you. You're fine. 😊

Thank you so much for information.

@jsdickson Some of this has changed since this is a few years old. You can now use flat rate boxes also.
