I have gotten 4 orders where the box was mush (due to rain) and the shirts inside got wet. I highly suggest you get the free Tyvek envelopes (1st pic) from USPS and put the clothes in the envelope then in the box. You can get them at the PO or order at USPS.com. They're FREE! It can cause a real headache if the buyer gets upset with you, because they're clothes got wet, even if it's not your fault. alijohnsonnnn Do you know how much the boxes will cost me at the post office?

closetenvy2 Most people use the boxes that are at the post office. I'm sure you've noticed that the box is pretty big if you're just mailing a shirt or two. I order a smaller version of the box on usps.com. You can order all your shipping supplies there FREE! The box I use is in the 2nd picture. Also, be sure to NEVER use Priority Mail FLAT RATE boxes. They will send it back to you or ask the buyer to pay extra shipping. Get the regular Priority Mail boxes that say Mailing Box, like in the 2nd pic.

closetenvy2 @alijohnsonnnn They're always FREE! Just order them online and they'll ship to you free. While you're waiting on that order, pick up a few from the post office. They usually leave them out. Just grab what you need. You can also use the Express Mail tyvek envelopes if they're out of the others, as long as you put it in a PM box.

jewelry_party
jewelry_party oh I love your idea of putting it into the waterproof bag first. Another posher had mentioned that you shouldn't use colored tissue paper cause the dye in it will ruin the clothing if gotten wet. But if you placed the bundle in the waterproof bag, you can still make it pretty and safe! Also for smaller fragile items that you may be shipping, like jewelry, AVOID the DVD mailing boxes. The newest batch that they are sending out are pure junk! I've had one buyer/package destroyed already. They crush and flatten way too easily. However they are great for sending out wallets and clutches, as long as they are not ornate, beaded or fragile. Oh and don't forget the Shoebox boxes they are great!

deenanelson
deenanelson You can also order the bubble envelopes that are also free that I use to wrap Jewelry in. You can get up to 75 at a time and these are also free. You can't use them to ship because they are a flat rate but you can use them inside to protect what your shipping. Also remember that we can not use the Flat rate boxes. The codes Of the boxes I use are 1095, 1096, and 1097, that are shaped like the box above. I also use Priority stickers to put on your own boxes if you don't have a priority box that fits. If you go to the site to order you will see on the description of each box weather it's a flat rate or not. @closetenvy2 I hope you don't mind me adding my 2 cents worth 😍😘 this is a awesome idea!
Sep 19Reply
fccandles
fccandles @closetenvy2 @deenanelson I too suggest the padded envelopes! I use these many ways, but primarily to protect. 1st the envelope, then I put in the box.. And like you said, They're free!! I also use them to protect smaller/fragile items and then slide in a tyvek. If you cut them at the seam, they're FREE bubble wrap!! 👍
Sep 20Reply
deenanelson
deenanelson Yep I agree, but I actually had I buyer give me 4 stars because I put her jewelry in the bubble envelope and I then into a tyvek envelope. She said I used to much packaging lol. I explained it was for her items safety as I have had envelopes opened and the contents stolen. And I have had things crushed before. Oh well I will still wrap things the way I do, that way you know it gets there and it gets there in one piece 😍😍😍

xuana14
xuana14 @closetenvy2 why would they ship back to u or charge the buyer extra postage with the FLAT RATE box. Do u know? Thank u for sharing all this great info!!
Dec 05Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @beckytf The reason is because the flat rate shipping charge is higher than the $4.99 that we pay to Poshmark. To ship in a box that's flat rate, standard size box (fits about 2 shirts), it costs $10.85. Sometimes they don't catch it, but it's not worth it if they do. Most of the time the person at the counter will notice. However, like me, most people just walk in and sit it on the counter and leave. Does that make sense?

kadensmommy77
kadensmommy77 Does it have to be a box ? Can it be an envelope ?
Jul 09Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @kadensmommy77 You can use an envelope as long as it's one or two small items and NOT jewelry. It will get broken if you ship jewelry in an envelope. Regardless, I'd still get the tyvek envelopes for your items to be waterproof, if you're using your own envelopes. Just put your items in the tyvek, then in whatever envelope your using. Remember, the tyvek envelopes are FREE.
Jul 09Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @kadensmommy77 If you're shipping jewelry or something breakable, I put tissue paper around it, then bubble wrap. I then put it in a USPS bubble envelope, also FREE, and fold it around the jewelry for extra protection. Then I put it in a waterproof envelope and then in a box. Boxes sometimes get smashed so imagine what happens to envelopes. I hope this helped.
Jul 09Reply

Jul 29Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @sabmar Yes, you can. However, if it's jewelry or anything that could be crushed, it needs to go in a box.
Jul 29Reply
sabmar
sabmar No it's clothing! Thanks and also when we go to the PO do we have to pay up front the 4.99 or we just drop it off?
Jul 29Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @sabmar You have to print the label that Poshmark emails to you. That way you're not paying for shipping. The buyer pays that. I'd suggest getting the PO to tape the ends of your envelope so it's 100% waterproof.

fq1009
fq1009 Can we use Priority Mail Tyvek Envelopes when shipping items with the poshmark prepaid shipping label? Do we have to use boxes?
Aug 09Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @fq1009 Yes, you can use just the envelopes. However, I'd you're shipping anything that could be damaged if crushed, like makeup, jewelry or clothing with sequins on it, I'd suggest using a box in addition to the Tyvek envelope. Hope that helps!
Aug 09Reply
fq1009

fq1009 Can Priority Mail Tyvek Envelopes rip easily? The material looks like it can.
Aug 09Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @fq1009 They just don't want you to use boxes or envelopes that say Express Mail. You also can't use boxes that say Priority Mail Flat Rate. Those cost more to ship. ONLY use the ones that just say Priority Mail and Mailing Box. The tyvek envelopes don't come in Flat Rate so don't worry about those. Oh, and no, they don't rip easily. In fact, you need scissors to open one, or a blow torch, lol. They're kind of a plastic-y material.

adianileth
adianileth I went to the post office today and I had been using boxes that would go with the item but now they're telling me that I have to use specific boxes and ship whenever it says to ship, I wasn't aware of that before? She kept saying I would need to pay extra even with a prepaid mailing label so now I'm super confused on what boxes to ship in! Help?
Oct 12Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @adianileth No, that's not correct. I ran into that issue 2 years ago. They get confused. Poshmark had a special shipping rate. As long as you don't use a flat rate box or envelope, you should be able to ship it in anything. I'd definitely ask for a manager or the number for the Postmaster. I've had to do that too. Go to a different post office or give it to the mail carrier instead. I'd definitely email Poshmark in the meantime because I know they've dealt with this.
Oct 12Reply
adianileth
adianileth I think I will do that because they wanted me to pay 18.75 for a box that held a bundle! I was like that's crazy! I'll just take them to a different post office and hope I don't have an issue with these and I'll figure it out for next time because I live in a tiny town away from everything so it's hard to go to other post offices!
Oct 12Reply

closetenvy2 @adianileth Was it over 5 lbs? Did they say the box was too large?

yeezylexxis Are these envelopes allowed to use for shipping? I'm new to poshmark so i'm not sure how it really works😅
Oct 17Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @yeezylexxis Yes, they are. Just don't use the blue Express one that's similar. Also, don't ship any jewelry or items that can be crushed in them. I mainly use them to put my items in to protect them from humidity and rain. I then put them in a box, but you can ship it in just the envelope. There are boxes also that are free at the post office. Just don't use flat rate boxes.

Nov 17Reply
crickaroa
crickaroa @closetenvy2 No, I actually hit reply to one of the comments above, (the one where she said she double wrapped her package & got 4 stars for using "too much packaging"). It's the 1st time I've used the "reply" button in a comment like that, & couldn't even find where my comment went afterward. 😕 I assumed it would just pop up under her comment..(kinda like FB), but I obviously did "something" wrong!! Haha.
Nov 17Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @crickaroa I didn't even know there was a reply button, lol. I gotta start paying attention. Yeah, that would be nice if it did do like FB. But yeah, that's absolutely ridiculous that someone did that. I'd buy something from them just to leave one star and say not enough packing, lol. But I'm hormonal.
Nov 17Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @aquakids Yes, you can use any box the post office has as long as it's not a flat rate box. If the jacket and box together goes over 5 lbs., it will be extra though. I usually weigh mine, then I tell the buyer that there's an extra shipping fee. If it is over 5 lbs, you can pay the difference or cancel the order and see if they're willing to pay the extra fee.

If you notice a delay, contact Poshmark and let them know what happened and see what you should do. I've recently received several packages that were in flat rate boxes, and noone caught onto it. You're probably OK if it's already tracking.

closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @dstrobl I've had it happen a few times. I guess it's different in different areas. I'd drive around to several post offices and gather as many as they'll give you. I do that a lot too. This time of year, supplies are short, so you'll definitely have to go to several. If you can only get flat rate boxes, buy some rolls of craft paper, and just wrap the box in that so they don't know it's a flat rate box. It's a lot cheaper than buying your own boxes. That's what I do when supplies run out.
Dec 15Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @dstrobl I think you can get the really big rolls of craft paper at Lowe's and Home Depot. Per square foot, it's cheaper.

bella_miller Hi i have a question, i need to ship an item and posh is taking a while getting back to my email. This might be a silly question, but can i just use the plain USPS brown padded envelopes? thanks (:
Jan 19Reply

closetenvy2 @bellamiller123 Yes, you can certainly use one of those. Once you put the Poshmark label on it, have them put priority mail stickers on the envelope for you.

goodfindsbyjime
goodfindsbyjime Whats is the difference between priority mail and flat rate? The free ones that i pick up at the usps say priority mail but in little letters say flat rate so i am very confused...
Jan 21Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @jiimmm Let me explain... Priority Mail boxes come in 3 versions: regular priority mail (which is what you need), priority mail flat rate and priority mail regional rate. The boxes you need should not say flat rate or regional rate anywhere on the box. It just says Mailing Box, like in the 2nd and 3rd pics. You'll always see more flat rate boxes at the post office. Most people use those.
Jan 21Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @jiimmm We can't because we're restricted to a 5 lb limit, so our shipping fees don't cover flat rate boxes, which have no weight limit. A lot of people use the flat rate boxes and get away with it, but you still have a 75% chance they'll catch it. You may have to ask them if the have any regular priority mail boxes available.
Jan 21Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @jiimmm They typically have more in the back than what's out. However, not all post offices carry the regular ones, so it's important to order ahead of time online. It's all free and delivered right to your door. In the meantime, you can use the flat rate boxes and wrap them in that brown shipping paper that comes on a roll, and they'll have no idea it's one of their flat rate boxes. I hope this helps.
Jan 21Reply

closetenvy2 @jiimmm Let me know if you need me to explain any of that.

closetenvy2 @nrodrii89 I don't mind one bit. As long as you use the ones that say Mailing Box instead of Flat Rate or Regional Rate, then yes, you can use any size they come in, including shoe boxes. The regional rate boxes are the ones you're talking about. Flat Rate and Regional Rate clearly say it on the box. On the USPS website, it will also say if the are. Let me know if you have more questions.

brookemoj Hi! Just had a question and wondered if you knew. So poshmark says to not ship with priority mail flat rate boxes, but every box I have ever seen at a usps store says flat rate at the bottom so I'm very confused. I am shipping out shoes for the first time and don't know what to do.
Feb 10Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @brookemoj Some post offices don't catch onto it, but you're just taking a risk when you do use a flat rate box. Ask them if they have any that aren't flat rate. I've never heard of them not having any. It's possible they keep them in the back though. I had one lady tell me that they didn't catch on to her using a flat rate box until it got all the way to the delivery city. Eek!

brookelizzyy Hey!! I only have ups express pak envelopes and boxes! Is that ok to use or will it get sent back
Feb 10Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @brookelizzyy If they're UPS (not USPS) you definitely can't use them. They'll send it back to you. If it's USPS, you also can't use Express envelopes or boxes. You'll have to use either the free ones from the post office or go buy some from a store.
Feb 10Reply

bquan13 @closetenvy2 Great post! I can't get to my local Post Office in time and I'm not quite sure if my box is over 5 pounds. What if I shipped it and it was over 5 pounds (I have not upgraded the label bc I don't know the weight). Will the package be returned to me if it's over 5 pounds? Any light you can shed would be great!
Feb 21Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @bquan13 Unfortunately there's no straight answer. They may catch it when you drop it off, but it also can be caught anywhere along the route. It could then be sent back to you or held at the post office until your buyer comes in to pay the difference, which they won't. So, I would find out when you drop it off then go home and reprint a new label or pay the difference then.

misskrissss Okay.. can someone please help meee! (I'm a newbie). So, I totally get that we're not supposed to use boxes/envelopes that say "Flat Rate" on them.. they're only supposed to say "Mailing box" or "Mailing Envelope" correct? but.. I've noticed on Instagram some of you gals will post pictures of your orders and I noticed some of the envelopes say "Flat Rate Envelope" on them. Now I had ordered myself some and was going to return the to the PO, but am I allowed to use these?? Help help help.
Feb 25Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @misskrissss Sorry I'm just seeing your message. A lot of Poshers use the flat rate boxes, but you always risk running into a problem if you do. It can be caught at your post office or anywhere along the way. Then, it can be returned to you or even worse. It can be held at the buyer's local post office & them get a card saying they owe additional postage before they can get their package.....
Feb 26Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @misskrissss So, to me it's definitely not worth the risk. I've seen many posts on here over the years about these things happening. The ones that don't get caught are just lucky. I accidentally used a flat rate one time, and my post office told me I had to pay $12 more. So I switched boxes. If you want to keep the boxes, get some of that thick craft paper you can get on rolls, and wrap them in that so they don't see that it's a flat rate box.

maymegan1
maymegan1 Just a question, are you able to ship in the tyvek evelopes? I really like shipping in evelopes over boxes but all of USPS evelopes on the website are flat rate or express!
Mar 03Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @maymegan1 No, you're not supposed to ship in them since they're flat rate. You risk them catching it, and you'll have a huge headache and upset buyer. I use them inside of the boxes for protection from humidity and rain only. You can buy envelopes of course. But you're right. All of USPS envelopes are flat rate so can't be used technically. Just order some boxes and also use the envelopes for protection. You get used to the boxes.

closetenvy2 @ryleighdeforge Correct. They can't say Flat Rate or Regional Flat Rate. The correct ones just say Mailing Box. If you go to the USPS website, you'll see where they say Mailing Box. If you use flat rate, they may or may not catch it, but it's just not worth the risk. If you have to use flat rate boxes, wrap them in the thick brown shipping paper you can get at Lowe's on a roll. It's very cheap.
Mar 06Reply
ryleighdeforge
ryleighdeforge @closetenvy2 thank you! Does the post office usually tape it for you??
Mar 06Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @ryleighdeforge Not usually. If you live in a small town they'll sometimes let you use their tape roll. Larger towns they'll tell you you have to buy tape from them, so I'd do it ahead of time.

Mar 08Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @courtinie Ok, you should wrap them in tissue paper or packing paper (each boot separately) & then put each in its own free tyvek envelope from the post office. That keeps them safe from rain and humidity. Then you'll have to put them in a box. You're welcome!
Mar 08Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @strawberry1998 You need to go to a post office in another town, preferably larger town. There's an agreement between Poshmark and USPS That the label covers anything under 5 lbs. Is it possible your package weighed more than that? If another post office doesn't know about it, then contact Poshmark. Actually, I'd go ahead and do that now.
Mar 16Reply
gezy
gezy Hi!! Thank you for the amazing tips. I was wandering if I can use my boxes ( brown boxes)? What are the measures of the boxes I can use?
Mar 22Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @gezy Yes, you can use your boxes. They keep changing the measurements allowed with special Priority Mail boxes. Meaning, Poshmark has a special rate, so they have special restrictions. I wish Poshmark would post the measurements, but they don't. Here's about all I can tell you...You're safe with the size parameters of any of the priority mail boxes, so compare to those. Anything really long, like tall boot boxes, could be a problem.
Mar 23Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @ts043 Shipping is the same rate as long as it's under 5 lbs (most shoes are well under that), and the box isn't super long, like tall boots. You should keep them in the original box and then also put it in a shipping box. USPS has shoe boxes, but they're not always large enough to fit all shoes. You may need to actually buy a box, depending on the size of your shoe box. Shoes seem to be the exception to all the rules.
Mar 23Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @ts043 You're welcome! I'll tag you in a listing I did about boots boxes. That would apply to any shoe box that's huge though.

Apr 01Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @robynebrenae Unfortunately, yes. You'll have to buy one if it doesn't fit in the Priority Mail shoe box. I keep Amazon boxes just for shoes. If the shoes you're shipping don't have their original shoe box, you can probably fit them in the Priority Mail shoe box, IF your post office has any.

closetenvy2 @robynebrenae Lol, it's OK. I miss stuff all the time. You're welcome. Obviously, if you're not sending them with the shoe box, you can fit them in a regular mailing box. Just be sure to always wrap them in something and put them in the free tyvek envelopes to protect them from moisture, especially if they're canvas. I've had bad experiences with items of received that weren't protected and got wet sitting outside my front door.

closetenvy2 @minahinkle I personally prefer boxes because I ship a lot of jewelry, and you definitely shouldn't ship jewelry in an envelope. May 10Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @tara141989 You can't use flat rate boxes or envelopes with these labels. They have ones that aren't flat rate (only boxes), or you can buy your own. The post office ones are free. Just tell them you need a box that's NOT flat rate, and you're good. 😊
May 10Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @tara141989 But to be clear, you can use the tyvek envelopes INSIDE the box, as long as they don't see it. desharley1234 I'm new to this and just bought something hoping for it to be shipped on Monday.. Does anyone know if tracking number will give you time it will arrive. I don't trust my neighborhood and feel like it would be stolen if just left on front porch :/? Anyone ever had this experience??
May 21Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @desharley1234 It usually will show the time it's delivered, assuming the postal worker actually scans it. Unfortunately, there's not a lot you can do to protect it from being stolen other than ship it to an address where someone will be there, such as a business.
May 21Reply
desharley1234
desharley1234 @closetenvy2 thank you. True. Yeah I'll just do my best to track it. Hopefully I have a good experience with getting a shipment lol first time doing this.
May 21Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @desharley1234 I'm sure it will be fine. I've never had a problem. MOST of the time the postal worker will deliver it when your regular mail is delivered. If you're worried, watch the tracking daily. When it arrives in the destination city, or hub city, it will likely be delivered the next day. The morning it should be delivered, it will say Out For Delivery. So, maybe you can run home around the time your mail comes or call a neighbor to watch for it.

It prints portrait and centered on a letter size, and the labels are 2 on a sheet and would need the printer to do landscape orientation. Now the label prints over both with a split down the middle Arghhhh!

May 27Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @nicolemee724 No, you can't use any flat rate boxes. Sometimes you can sneak it by them, but it's not worth the risk. It could be caught while en route, and then it would be sent back to you. You can wrap the box in craft paper so they can't see that it's a flat rate box.

chynnagrove @closetenvy2 Hi there, I'm so happy to see that you have the answers to so many questions. I'm a new posher. I just sold my first pair of shoes. Can u please tell me if the "priority mail shoe box" that everyone is referring to is the one that measures 12x 12x8? I also read that you say we can use a tyvek bag to put the shoes in b4 putting them in the box. What's a tyvek envelope? Can I wrap shoes in a plastic ziplock bag before shipping it with my usual tissue paper?

sosucculent
sosucculent @closetenvy2 another question. I have had people buying A LOT of things in one bundle from my closet. Like 15-20 baby items, which there is no way will ship in the 5lb Poshmark label max. What do I do? I was looking on Poshmark and it looks like I should have the buyers split up these items into smaller bundles.
May 29Reply
sosucculent
sosucculent @closetenvy2 I don't think I should be the one to pay for $20 worth of shipping when they are buying 20 items, right? I can see the seller having to pay for upgrades shipping when I list an item that is over 5lbs or 10lbs but this is not the case at all.
May 29Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @nicolemee724 I always tell them that it has to be split up into several bundles. If you don't, Poshmark states that you, the seller, has to pay the extra shipping. In that case, I just cancel the order until the buyer decides what they want to do. If they don't want to pay extra shipping, just don't sell it to them. It's your right. Because of this, I bought a shipping scale on EBay for under $20. Lifesaver!!
May 29Reply
sosucculent
sosucculent @closetenvy2 ok thank you. I felt bad telling the people (it was two different people) that they had to split up their orders because I was fronting the shipment cause they picked out 20 things. I definitely need a scale. Can you post a pic of your scale on this listing possibly!??! 😃😃

closetenvy2 @celebbabywear I may be misunderstanding you, but the Priority Mail boxes are all free. Please explain if that's not what you meant.
Jun 22Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @celebbabywear Gotcha. Yeah, after that, it gets ridiculously high, so just be careful how much you put into a bundle.
Jun 22Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @celebbabywear Basically because I can weigh, with the box, the items before I even make the sale IF I think it could go over 5 lbs. Then I suggest to the buyer that we split it up into 2 bundles, as long as it's under 10 lbs. That way I'm not stuck paying the extra shipping. Make sense? Even with baby clothes, it's possible to go over. Obviously you'd just have to bundle a lot more. With baby clothes, buyers tend to want to bundle more though. 😊

rcwallace622
rcwallace622 @closetenvy2 Is the Priority Flat Rate Padded Envelope ok to use? I used one today and they game me a hard time today at the counter!
Jun 27Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @rcwallace622 No, you can't. It costs more than what we pay through Poshmark to use flat rate. So, you can put it in the flat rate envelope, then the tyvek envelope, which is not flat rate. Just don't let them see you do it. Unless you're shipping clothes, I highly suggest using a box though.
Jun 27Reply
rcwallace622
rcwallace622 @closetenvy2 Great good to know! Thanks. They let it slide today but told me not to use it again. I know which one you're talking about.
Jun 27Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @rcwallace622 You're welcome! It can be caught by another postal worker as it's scanned along the way, especially at the receiving city. That's where it's typically caught, so hopefully they don't care. What will happen is that they'll either hold it for pickup at the receiving post office and ask the buyer to pay extra shipping, or they'll mail it back to you. It's probably only a 10% chance though.
Jun 27Reply
rcwallace622
rcwallace622 @closetenvy2 phew hopefully I'll be in the clear. The price in shipping is pretty similar between the two anyways and it was lightweight so I don't think they'll care.
Jun 27Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @rcwallace622 You're correct. It's mainly the boxes that have a difference. Honestly, most of them can't figure out what the Poshmark postal fee is, so they won't do anything.

Jul 09Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @greenhug73 You can use boxes you buy at the store, but if you're going to have the seller pay shipping, you have to ship it Priority Mail through Poshmark, so there's no other options as far as that goes. If you want to pay shipping yourself, you'll just have to discount the item the exact amount Poshmark charges for shipping. They'll still have to pay for it, and you'll lose money unfortunately

Jul 10Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @meghanchan Yes. First, find a box to fit without having to smoosh them. Wrap them in tissue paper, or some equivalent, then put them in the free tyvek envelopes. This will keep them from getting moisture in them. If you have the original shoe box or a shoe box, you can either put it in another box or simply wrap it in thick, craft paper from Lowe's or Home Depot. It needs to be thick though. Obviously another box is better. Regardless, the tyvek envelopes are very important!!

lauren9697 this is a great feed! I am wondering if anyone knows of poshmark's shipping labels come with insurance? I recently sold an $85 dress that got lost in the mail, had to give the buyer a refund and got nothing 😔 is there a way to add insurance?
Jul 23Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @lauren9697 Poshmark should have covered that unless there's circumstances I don't know about. I've had 3 things lost over the years on here, and they always just refunded everyone involved. Now, my items lost didn't cost that much. But I know there used to be insurance. The problem is, unless you have a receipt showing you dropped it off, or it showed up in tracking, there's no proof you ever sent it, so always get a receipt if you can. I learned that the hard way.

Aug 14Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @lexbain I'm sorry. I've been on vacation mode so just saw your message. Honestly, it depends greatly on the size and shape. I typically use the 1096 or 1097. However, if it's a thick purse, you would have to smush it to get it in the box. You can also use the shoe box. It's thicker but obviously more shoe box shaped so wouldn't work on a tall purse. Just always put it in a free tyvek envelope, then a box, for extra protection from rain/humidity. Leather likes to bleed colors if wet.

Aug 23Reply
thatchickvic
thatchickvic So we technically don't have to pay to ship it out because Poshmark already does it for you and takes it out? I'm new and just trying to figure things out before i go to school. So when I send something out I can out it directly in the UPS mailbox that's on my street?
Aug 24Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @thatchickvic Correct. The buyer has already paid for shipping costs. Be sure to put it in a USPS box and not a US box. UPS is the brown one. The USPS (United States Postal Service) is usually red, white and blue. If you put it in the wrong one, it'll be a small nightmare. I figured it was probably a typo, but some people do think UPS and USPS is the same, so i wanted to be clear.
Aug 24Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @annalisahogan Most people just tape the label to the box. Use clear shipping tape. I put 3 pieces. One across the top, one across the bottom and one through the middle, over the name and address. The printed labels won't fit in the clear envelopes anyway. 😊
Aug 24Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @whoofs Flat rate boxes require a lot more postage than what Poshmark is charging us. Just a very small flat rate box is about $8.95 I think. So, you'd be sending a box without enough postage on it.

Sep 19Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @victoriasingh14 They typically won't let you ship in product boxes, but it really depends on your post office. Generally, they don't allow it. What you can do is wrap it in either two pieces of packing/moving paper (you can usually buy at uhaul or other moving businesses), plain brown or get some craft paper that comes on a roll. Then you put the label on that. Just make sure it's thick enough to where it won't tear. That's why I use two pieces if I use packing paper.

Sep 25Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @mishellahh You just run the risk of it being caught somewhere along the route. It's most likely to be caught at your post office or the receiving post office. It costs a lot more to use those, so posh doesn't put enough postage on it, if that makes sense. If you use them, wrap them in kraft paper to cover the box.

adri2be What about shoes? How can I protect them from rain when packing them for shipment?
Sep 27Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @adri2be What I do is put them in one of the free tyvek envelopes and then in the box. Sometimes you'll have to put one shoe per bag if they're too large to fit both in one bag. If they're tall boots, put a trash bag around the actual shoe box and seal with tape. You can also just use two tyvek envelopes per boot. One on one end and one on the other, then seal with tape. Hope this helps.
Sep 29Reply
adri2be
adri2be @closetenvy2 Thank you. I pray the shoes I sent don't get rained on because I only wrapped them in layers of tissue paper & gift wrapping paper. It was my first order. By the second order which was just 1 piece of clothing I knew to put the dress in tyvek envelope then in the box. But it has been wrapped securely as well. Thank you so much for posting this. I got my envelopes & boxes just in time for shipping my first orders.
Sep 29Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @adri2be Gotcha. One other thing to watch for. Don't use colored tissue paper without a tyvek envelope. If humidity or rain gets in, you could have a tie dyed mess. Chances are that your order will be fine. It's just better not to risk it. Most people don't use tyvek, but I've had 4 orders get wet that I received. Thankfully I was able to fix them all. 😊
Sep 29Reply
adri2be
adri2be @closetenvy2 yeah. I read that somewhere. I'm only using white tissue paper & putting a sticker on it to dress it up. I have colored tissue paper but I'm not sure what to use it for. Thanks.

thejazzybird
thejazzybird What about using your own boxes that are not brown? I have some small patterned boxes that are pretty and I would like to use. Are they picky about that?
Sep 30Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @blrebennack That's not one I've ever tried. I've received patterned boxes, but it really depends on how picky your post office is. They may be allowed though. I've just always used priority mail boxes or other boxes and wrapped them in thick craft paper. If you decide to use it, be sure it doesn't tear easy.

xmsememx
xmsememx How do you ship shoes (heels)? What kind of mailing box to use? Thanks
Oct 01Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @xmsememx They have a "shoe box" for priority mail that will fit most heels. However, not all post offices have them in stock. If you have a shoe box, use it and wrap it in the thick craft paper OR buy a box at Walmart or wherever. Shoes are the one thing that varies because of different sizes. Be sure to put each shoe in a tyvek envelope before the box because they can easily be damaged from moisture.

Oct 21Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @patywang I typically have to use either the USPS shoe box or Amazon boxes. If it's a flat purse, it will probably fit in the larger of the ones pictured above.

closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @sapodillaspice I only use the flat rate envelopes if I'm going to put it inside a box. They're waterproof, so it protects clothes, shoes, etc. But no, don't use flat rate boxes.
Oct 23Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @hawaiisash I usually put the shoe box inside another box. Those you'd have to buy somewhere. I reuse Amazon boxes for that though. If it's a very sturdy shoe box, you can wrap it in thick craft paper and ship that way. I've done that a few times.

Oct 28Reply

closetenvy2 @dinka0328 Yes, you can. You just can't use the flat rate envelopes since you're not technically paying the flat rate fee, which is higher. I don't suggest using envelopes for jewelry or shoes, ever.

Nov 07Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @rachellstevens Yes, you can use the envelope by itself as long as it doesn't say Flat Rate on it. They do make Flat Rate ones, so just watch for that. I think they're the bubbled ones though. As long as you're just shipped clothes, it'll be fine. Just never ship jewelry or shoes in just an envelope for obvious reasons. 😊

Can you buy sturdy paper to wrap around the box and just ship that way? I have some taller boots that I was thinking about trying to sell but I’m a little lost on shipping them the proper way.
Nov 11Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @prememanage Some of the post offices carry a shoe box, but not all do. I usually wrap the actual shoe box in either kraft paper or two layers of packaging paper and put a lot of shipping tape on the outside to keep the paper from tearing. Of course, you can always just go purchase a box at Walmart. Be sure to put the shoes in a waterproof envelope or gallon ziploc bags to protect them from moisture.
Nov 12Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @prememanage Yes, you can use that one. However, it's too small to almost all shoe boxes inside of. So, if you're also sending the actual shoe box, chances are it won't fit. Boots, even booties, will not fit in it, even without the shoe box. It's more for flats and some heels.

Nov 29Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @mokera You don't really have any choice but to bend them or pay the extra shipping unfortunately.
Dec 01Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @taylorshontae20 No, you can't use any flat rate boxes or envelopes. The post office MAY not pick up on it right away, but you run the risk of it being noticed during shipping. They'll then either send it back to you or require your buyer to pay additional shipping.

Dec 10Reply
ndass39
ndass39 Hey! I'm also struggling to find a box size for rain boots! Any sizes you'd recommend?
Dec 11Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @madgab18 @ndass39 I usually end up rolling the top of the boots (putting something soft inside the roll) in order to make them fit in a smaller box. If they can't be rolled or folded without messing them up, you'll have to go buy a box somewhere. The post office doesn't have a good, non flat rate, box.
Dec 11Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @ndass39 @madgab18 You can use a shoe box or large flat rate box & wrap it in layers of Kraft or packing paper (use lots of shipping tape in case it tears). Be sure to put each boot in something waterproof as well. I'll also tag both of you on another post I have.

closetenvy2 @naughtyornice You're welcome! I learned the hard way. I'd just offer to fold the box and tag the person here. My customers have always been fine with either not having the shoe box or having to reassemble it. But if you tag them on this post, they'll see it's a common issue.

closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @bls7188 You're going to need to buy a box for boots. Are you shipping them inside the boot box also? I'll tag you on another listing I did about shipping boots.
Jan 10Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @bls7188 Yes, there is a shoebox. Some post offices carry them in the actual post office, but most don't. I would go buy one though because their shoe box is pretty small. I sometimes use the actual shoe box (if it's sturdy) and wrap it in a couple of layers of craft paper and use lots of packing tape in case it tears. That's another good way to do it.
Jan 11Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @bls7188 I looked at the boots you're trying to ship. Those will absolutely NOT fit in the post office shoe box anyway. The biggest thing they'd fit is men's sneakers, and that would barely fit. Go ahead and buy a box at Walmart. Measure the length of the boots first. I bet they'll fit in the small box that's like $.82. I just shipped boots 2 days ago in one of them.
Jan 11Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @bls7188 It should be fine as long as you're not adding other items to the box. The boxes I buy there aren't heavy.

shop_m_boutique Do you know what the smallest box is? Like one that is good for bracelets?
Jan 13Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @shop_m_boutique The smallest that we can use is the Priority Mail DVD box. I don't like them because they're a little too small. I get the 1096L Priority Mail box. It's good enough for a few pieces of jewelry.
Jan 13Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @shop_m_boutique Just don't get the priority mail flat rate small box. We can't use flat rate unless you also wrap it in craft paper.
Jan 13Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @shop_and_ship I'm also seeing a new box called Priority Mail box-4. It's only 7"x7"x6", so that's the smallest. It could work because it's taller than the DVD box. I just ordered some to check them out, but it takes a few weeks. If you need some of the 1096L, I'll look tomorrow and see if I have more in my garage. I realized today that I only had 2 in the house. I hope I have another box of them.

thefashi0nkilla @closetenvy2 Hey I’m a new seller and I’m shipping out a package in the AM... Would priority mail flat rate envelope be okay or ??
Jan 15Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @thefashi0nkilla No, you can't use anything that's flat rate because it's not part of the agreement between Poshmark's discount rate and USPS. You run the risk of it being shipped back to you or the buyer being asked to pay more to pick it up. You need to use a box that's not flat rate or the tyvek envelope. Never ship jewelry or shoes in envelopes because it will be damaged. I hope that helps.

avma
avma Hi I am sending my first makeup order (foundation) and I’m wondering what the best way to ship this would be so it arrived safe and unbroken. I work at a store and we have standard white envelopes with built in bubble wrap. Would that work with the Poshmark prepaid label? Thanks in advance
Feb 07Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @avma I've never shipped makeup, such as pressed powder, eyeshadow, etc. However, I can say that just a bubble envelope is not enough. It needs to be in a bubble envelope & also inside a box that's not much larger than the bubble envelope. That way it's not jostled around. Powdered makeup breaks very easily. I've ordered it & always received it shipped the way I just described. I'd also find someone on here that ships makeup a lot & ask them.
Feb 07Reply

closetenvy2 @doggiegrace Can you help @avma? Read her question 2 comments up. Thank you!
Feb 07Reply
doggiegrace
doggiegrace @avma I would suggest wrapping the bottle itself in bubble wrap and tape it well. Pack it in a box the size of the product as close as possible. Use extra tissue paper or styrofoam filler around bottle so that it does not move around in shipping.🍀🌸😊

lmoore47 Hi! So I recently just sold a pair of riding boots, with the box. I had to go to UPS to purchase a box to ship it in and they said I could ship from there using the Poshmark label (said they do it all the time) my sale still hasn’t showed that it has shipped? Any advice on why or if they will send it back? Thank you!
Feb 08Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @lmoore47 Did you get a receipt? I assume you mean you took it to USPS not UPS?
Feb 08Reply
lmoore47
lmoore47 @closetenvy2 I did get a receipt. But no I took it to UPS to get a big box. And they said they always ship Poshmark and could do it for me so I wouldn’t have to take it to USPS
Feb 08Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @lmoore47 But I've had items never track until they actually arrived. I wouldn't worry too much unless more than 4 business days pass. If it doesn't start tracking by tomorrow evening, I'd at least let Poshmark know what's going on.
Feb 08Reply
lmoore47
lmoore47 @closetenvy2 okay I’ll stop worrying for now! Thank you!!
Feb 08Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @lmoore47 Eek! Yeah, UPS is not covered at all by those labels. You need to go back to the UPS store and ask them why they told you that. That shipping money goes to the post office (USPS) not UPS. Somewhere along the way it'll probably be intercepted. Did you tell the counter person you were shipping expensive boots? I'm concerned that they may have planned to steal them. UPS is not covered at all through Poshmark. 😢
Feb 08Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @lmoore47 Definitely let Poshmark know what's going on. I bet they've dealt with this before and can at least tell you what to expect. I'd go and demand my boots back at UPS if you have the receipt. I can't imagine them shipping them free.

closetenvy2 @lmoore47 OH thank goodness! I was worried!!!!
Feb 08Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @lmoore47 I just had a UPS package delivered to me, and I asked him about your situation. He said that if you dropped it off at a UPS only location, he's not sure how they would have given you a receipt. If you dropped it off at a shipping business that accepts UPS AND USPS, that's different. He said if a customer drops off a USPS package at a UPS only location, they'll have the post office pick it up, but it can delay it a day or two.
Feb 09Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @lmoore47 He said to be very careful because the post office USPS will NOT cover your package, if it's lost, unless you have a receipt from either the post office or a shipping business that is certified to accept USPS packages, if that makes sense. So, I just wanted to pass this along. I'm very curious about how they gave you a receipt at a UPS location. Was it by chance a shipping business? I'm trying to learn. I promise I'm not being nosey, lol.

laureenpierce @closetenvy2 on the poshmark website it says it’s okay to use flat rate boxes and it says shipping is 6.49 so I was wondering does not using flat rate still apply? I emailed them also and they said flat rate was fine...
Feb 10Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @laureenpierce That has to be a recent change because they told me the exact opposite. Three post offices wouldn't allow me to use flat rate boxes because the cost of shipping is higher for flat rate than the $6.49 we pay. So, I'm not sure what's changed. I am selling some tall Hunter rain boots and I don’t know what box I’ll ship them in. Especially a box to fit in the original box. I checked USPS website and did t see any that would fit - within the regular priority mail box range.
Mar 02Reply
closetenvy2
closetenvy2 @melodykaili You're going to have to buy some thick Kraft paper, from Walmart (usually near the shipping supplies). Wrap it in 2 layers around the original shoe box, and ship it that way. It's possible that the original shoe box is over the limit of the postal regulations, but you won't know without trying. I'll tag you on what to do if it is. 😊

closetenvy2 @tostygirl You're welcome! Some people are saying they allow flat rate boxes and envelopes now, but my post office says it's not covered, so I guess it depends on if they recognize Poshmark has changed its shipping agreement. I'd ask since you have the flat rate ones, and they're free.

closetenvy2 @gavllainat Honestly, makeup is one thing I never ship. I've heard stories of shodows breaking. You need to look for someone that regularly sells shadows and glosses (glosses leak under pressure) and ask them. NEVER send in a poly envelope.
