Be sure your LV date code matches the country it is manufactured in..there are lists online to compare. Sometimes the lists online will not be a complete list. The country codes on a 2015 and 2016 production year might not be updated. Also the date code is not a the only way to properly authenticate..It is one of the many things you take into consideration. I made it my mission to research this after I bought a fake wallet listed as authentic here..an awful experience I don't wish on anyone!

designer_diva88 @jgajewski omg, I can't even tell you how many times I've had to worn my potential buyers and other buyers, about checking date codes and soooooo many other details as well, that these counterfeiters are trying to reproduce!! It's so frustrating for the people that are against counterfeit items!! So, thank you for spreading the knowledge!!!😘💕✌🏼️

jgajewski @designer_diva88 yes it is crazy how many fakes I see of LV, Stella, ect getting sold as real. It's happening a lot. They are getting good at the duplication and it's so frustrating at times. Memes Treasures has made plenty of money off me. lol

jgajewski @kkat123 I just looked in your closet. I was reading the description. Did memes say she wouldn't give a yes on it? I've gotten a lot better but I wouldn't want to say yes or no on that bag. Lol:) Some are obvious but yours is a good rep if it is. Where does the "made in" tag say it's from and what is the code? I can't really make it out on this phone..

needsandwants
needsandwants Watch out! @amazonia305 is selling fakes. She just sold a Damier and the buyer took it to be authenticated -- FAKE. She's accusing the buyer of "replacing it" with a fake. She would never give date codes, or any paperwork in spite of claiming it had been repaired by LV (if you don't have paperwork, they can retrieve it from their database for you -- very simple transaction).

jgajewski @mcdavi5k if I don't buy from the store I just get authenticated. They can be made in many different places. I had an LV Eva that was made in USA. This is just to hopefully help people with the obvious date codes that are fake😊

my4rescues
my4rescues I bought a Damier Speedy 30 on another site about 2yrs ago and the gal sent the paperwork with it--the paperwork was fake! The bag was fake! Before I released the funds, I quickly contacted Memes Treasures via text and sent her pics of everything and she said it was fake! Melissa is a LV authenticator and well known! She can even tell you it's auth or fake by her going to the ad itself. She doesn't charge much and you can get the answer "before you buy". She's saved me multiple times!
Feb 07Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @flabluelinemom oh yes she is my go to! If I ever buy anything that isn’t straight from the store I get it authenticated from her. She has saved me a couple of times! She is great..well worth what she charges:)
Feb 07Reply
my4rescues
my4rescues @jgajewski -yes she is wonderful!! But I do appreciate your posting this blog to help because sometimes we can just skip one if we look back on this and realize it might be fake and if I really have doubts--I contact Memes Treasures...texting her is the fastest way from my cell and sending pics she needs. I still look back on the posts for LV date codes to help me first...This is so helpful!

Mar 05Reply

jeannette517
jeannette517 Since Poshmark authenticates any luxury item over $500, should that set my mind at ease? Or do think even then we should be wary?
Aug 16Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @jeannette517 I’m not familiar with who posh uses but I would say anything over $500 should be good. Everyone makes mistakes but I would hope with the $$ they are making they have invested in the authentication process. They have definitely invested in advertising this year. Lol I’ve only ordered a few things over $500 but I knew they were real before the items went to posh.💟
Aug 16Reply
jeannette517
jeannette517 @jgajewski thank you so much! I’m looking to purchase a bag in the near future and want to be comfortable doing so. This info is helpful. Thanks 😊
Aug 16Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @jeannette517 I have started getting things authenticated that I know is real from my personal collection because I never kept any receipts. If it happens to sell under $500 I can give my customers a peace of mind. You can also have something authenticated before you accept the order and if it’s proven fake posh will let you return. It’s happened to me a few times before I was more educated...but these super fakes are getting really good. It’s gotten out of hand☹️

jgajewski @jeannette517 I’m glad:) Let me know if I can help in any other way😊

dgierzy Hi, this is awesome.. do you mind if I steal it and post it? I have a small LV posted on here that I’m 100% positive it’s authentic but no date code. Is that possible or am I just not seeing it?
Aug 28Reply
methodclothe
methodclothe I am familiar with the date codes. I also know that the fakes have oval O's on the heat stamp. Do these sellers think that PM will miss autheticating some items?
Sep 04Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @methodclothe if you look on her profile you can see where she joined this month. I’m thinking they either want someone to offer under $500 or they have no idea posh does the authentication. That is the only thing I can think of. The fakes on here have gotten so ridiculous.
Sep 04Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @methodclothe if I buy anything under $500 even though I’m pretty good now at spotting fakes I get it authenticated. I have had to send a couple of items back. Which is a risky waste of time and $$ But I won’t chance owning a fake because I know what it promotes...

patriciaf31
patriciaf31 What about LV shawls? I questioned one seller and after my 3rd question I can no longer see her closet. Poshmark asked for a screen shot of what the message said “In Market” with tap here to see listings. It isn’t working for me. My 2nd email with the screen shot was unanswered by poshmark. Thanks for your LV info.
Sep 04Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @patriciaf31 I’m not as familiar with shawls but if you google it there is info on what the tag should look like and the LV logo. You probably can’t see her closet because she got shut down for have fakes. If enough people report then posh will usually shut them down. It takes a few days. Sometimes the account owner shuts down their own closet when they realize they aren’t able to scam...

lamour_couture
lamour_couture Thank you for the knowledge/tips. Luckily I have many good friends who work for lux/designer retailers. However the blk market and pirates have become very crafty these days. So crafty as to re-create shark tags inside leather goods such as handbags. I hope no one ever purchases a fake item if it is advertised as real. It’s despicable how many people like fake stuff, and keep that market in business. I do not support anyone who rips off an artist, their work and then benefit financially from it!

juliesmorris
juliesmorris What did LV do before 1990? I bought one at the LV store in Paris in 1985 and I can’t really find any markings on it inside...like a number or anything😩
Dec 19Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @juliesmorris in the 80s LV used date codes..they are read differently than the 90s-present. Sometimes the code is tricky to find. Have you checked in all of the pockets and under any tabs that might be present? Over time if the code was stamped into the inside the bag and not located on a separate piece of fabric it can get rubbed off. If you purchased from the store I wouldn’t worry about it unless your trying to resell. In that case I would recommend getting it authenticated:)
Dec 19Reply
juliesmorris
juliesmorris @jgajewski thank you so much ! I am not looking to sell it but thought I would ask you because I was curious and you seem to be very knowledgeable. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.
Dec 19Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @juliesmorris no problem at all:) If you google “how did LV use date codes in the 80s” a great guide comes up explaining how to read the date codes pre 80s. I believe it’s called the LV date code bible. It’s pretty interesting🌺

jgajewski @mechellemac hi there:) it is illegal to sell reps and it is also against the rules on Poshmark so as far as the reps you cannot list them. I know many people try but people will report you and you risk losing your account💜

little_shop141
little_shop141 just wanted to comment not all louis vuitton's have date codes . vintage bags anything from 1987 and beyond may not always have a date code .
Nov 08Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @little_shop141 that is true. Not all vintage bag charms or key chains will have them either. Also the older rings will not have them:)
Nov 08Reply
little_shop141
little_shop141 @jgajewski correct. personally I would take any bag to have it authenticated by a professional. I have few real vintage wallets and bags that have no date code or it's been rubbed off from age that someone who didn't know would automatically say it's a fake . I become weary when I see a seller who sells nothing but louis vuitton as new and have several bags .
Nov 08Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @little_shop141 that is why if someone asks me to help I tell them to use meme treasures or another authenication company. It has gotten so bad and I am not an expert.
Nov 08Reply
little_shop141
little_shop141 @jgajewski I agree and yes it has gotten put of control with fake items on here . it's also been bad with the ones who sell fake items and they report your items as fake lol . I had some authentic makeup brushes that one seller sells all the time used and she sent ridiculous offers I declined. the next thing I knew my item was gone , reported as fake . I listed on another site and by gosh if it wasn't the same person lol . people are goofy .
Nov 08Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @little_shop141 oh my goodness! I had the same thing happen to me. This person came on my page and starting saying everything was fake. I do not nor will I ever deal in non authentic items. People can be straight up crazy lol🤪

jenibryan69 Can you tell me how the scarves are date stamped if at all?
Jan 25Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @jenibryan69 I’m not familiar with the scarves because I always buy mine through the LV store...: maybe a Google search would help:)

jennywood
jennywood Does anyone know the history of the Ellipse backpack? I've been wanting one and doing research on it. I recently purchased one and it is smaller than the one my friend has. I know they are both authentic and cannot seem to find any of on this. It also seems like the older ones have a heat stamp on back leather and newer ones do not. I cannot find any thing saying they made in GM, PM, MM, etc. I'm also very curious about what people use the gold ring on the top exterior.Put straps thru??
Feb 15Reply
jennywood
jennywood I put the straps thru the top ring and it makes it where you can put your hand thru them and carry that way or one shoulder instead of carrying like a backpack. I know this is gonna wear on the leather, but I'm going to use as a everyday handbag and this seems to be a practical way to carry on a daily basis. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you my Louis Vuitton friends!!

joanne0716 @jgajewski. I bought a jungle neverfull on here and posh said its real but I dont see any date code. How do I know?
Mar 21Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @joanne0716 did it go to posh headquarters for authentication and they gave you the card?
Mar 21Reply
joanne0716
joanne0716 @jgajewski yes but I lost card and trying to sell or trade
Mar 21Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @joanne0716 I would recommend getting it authenticated by Meme Treasures... there should be a date code in the never full and pouch

_nekamichelle_ I just bought a bag on here but want to double check on it. Where’s the best place?
Apr 22Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @_nekamichelle_ I use memes treasures for LV. I use real authentication for other brand bags..
Apr 22Reply
_nekamichelle_
_nekamichelle_ @jgajewski if I tag you on the bag I bought could you look at it?
Apr 22Reply
_nekamichelle_
_nekamichelle_ @jgajewski ok I tagged you, thank you.
Apr 22Reply
_nekamichelle_
_nekamichelle_ I’m going to use memes as well.

Apr 22Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @_nekamichelle_ I just got notification..
Apr 22Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @_nekamichelle_ I would need to see the made in stamp up close and the hardware. It will go to posh for authentication before you get so it should be fine. One of My concerns would be the 3 pic..if that is a cut in the leather.
Apr 22Reply
_nekamichelle_
_nekamichelle_ @jgajewski you mean like the trim of it?
Apr 22Reply
_nekamichelle_
_nekamichelle_ I put the code in one of those free checkers and it came back telling me the location made and date.
Apr 22Reply
_nekamichelle_
_nekamichelle_ @jgajewski is the trim not supposed to be cut like that?
Apr 22Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @_nekamichelle_ I would ask for more pics but no not usually. It could be the angle.
Apr 22Reply
_nekamichelle_
_nekamichelle_ @jgajewski this lady has more pictures. I just tagged you
Apr 22Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @_nekamichelle_ I can’t tell by the photos. It does look authentic even though I would need close ups I mentioned before.
Apr 22Reply
_nekamichelle_
_nekamichelle_ @jgajewski ok, thank you for looking. She bought it from another posher so it has already been sent to the headquarters but I hear they aren’t always right. She also says she has the receipt so I guess I’ll take my chances.
Apr 22Reply

jgajewski @_nekamichelle_ it should be fine. Memes is good if you need a second opinion:)

marandahowman
marandahowman Thank you for posting this! I recently found out my item was fake after I posted to resell it. I am unfamiliar with the brand and feel so awful!! 1. for falling for it and 2. because people thought I was trying to trick them and that was never my intention!!😔 What did you end up doing with the item that you purchased after finding out it was fake?
Jul 29Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @marandahowman I had to eat the $ cause I didn’t find out until months later it was fake. I have come a long way since then lol I can spot most fakes now very easily. It was a vintage item and that’s what threw me off...

jgajewski @fccandles thank you so much☺️ Looks like I need to change the dates cause I made it so long ago🤪 I love your post on the low offers. I also put “price firm” on some items because I can’t afford to lose anymore $. I still get offers 100 less than the “price firm”🤨Story of my life LOL I love your closet! It’s lovely!💗💗💗💗

fccandles
fccandles @jgajewski thank you!! I have a post for JUST about everything anymore 😂. It doesn’t matter however. Nobody reads anything 🥴🤷🏻‍♀️. I’m fighting posh now on an open case re: size not as listed .... it clearly was. But even so I put a disclaimer on EVERY listing. Doesn’t much matter ☹️ Your closet is fabulous! I might be back for that Alma bracelet ( if they ever release my funds!!🤬😆)

jgajewski
jgajewski @fccandles I’ve had some really bad posh interactions with the authentication department this year. They sent back 2 items I know are 100% authentic and said they couldn’t “confirm authenticity” They didn’t even contact me for a receipt or anything..just canceled after it was there for only 12 hrs. The next week they sent me a YSL on the chain I purchased..chain was fake..it had been added to a wallet..but that made it through!?! It’s been crazy and a lot of $ lost😔
Sep 09Reply
fccandles
fccandles @jgajewski I’ve heard SOOO many horrors stories just like that. I’ve had one really bad one yrs ago. I have ALL of my things that I think they might have trouble .. authenticated before hand. So many times they do that. They are NOT experts. I don’t trust them 🙄
Sep 09Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @fccandles you know that is scary..one of the items had been authenticated before I sent it to them! I sent the certificate with the item! That was the one canceled in less than a day😳🤯 Oh one time they told me they couldn’t authenticate an LV necklace because they could find the gold plated stamp. Really? There is never a good plate mark on LV! Just to see what would happen I relisted the necklace and it went through fine the second time!!🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
Sep 09Reply
fccandles
fccandles @jgajewski that’s the crux yeah? So I flipped a bag I BOUGHT on posh ( came w/ their certificate) I re sold and they said they couldn’t authenticate ☹️ yes... here is YOUR authenticity certificate! They do NOT k ow what they are doing. How can they not accept an outside authentication? Unreal
Sep 09Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @fccandles no way! it’s really out of control. I’m not sure what’s going on. What I do know is they have not grown their customer service at all to match the volume. If I see one more Poshmark Commercial I might throw the remote control off the TV! Her $100 in the box red bottoms is a gross misrepresentation. I’m not here to give my hard earned items away. If I wanted to do that I would consign somewhere else and not put in any work.
Sep 09Reply
fccandles
fccandles @jgajewski oh that DAMN commercial! I yell every time it comes on 😣.... and I completely agree... I have been waiting 6 DAYS for them to rule on my case!! 6 days! What on earth!😡

jgajewski
jgajewski @fccandles ughhhh same happened to me when I had to send the YSL back with the FAKE chain. I have an item that’s been somewhere in the mail for two weeks. A return that was lost for two weeks. I don’t like returning things but I’m not going to pay for something that’s not real which has happened THREE times this week! All Lv, all fake🤨 i’m just gonna go back buying from the store. This has been such a headache lately.. more than normal.

klosetott
klosetott @jgajewski I am waiting on a purse I purchased on poshmark to be authenticated and the more research I do the more I realize it’s a fake. A Delightful LV with date code SP1001 doesn’t make sense. The bag wasn’t produced until 2010. Fingers crossed poshmark catches it and i won’t have to deal with the headache! Lesson learned, I need to do my homework.

kauairandy Just bought an LV wallet from "jessicasblowout" she listed as "authentic". I paid Meme's Treasures to authenticate and they said it's not authentic. Am returning for a refund. goldenfindsinc @jgajewski okay thank you. can you tell me how to identify the authenticity
Dec 17Reply
jgajewski
jgajewski @paigepoo3 I would read this post and read through the thread here and also Google how to authenticate an LV bag. They don’t really give me enough room here to go through everything. The give away on that bag was where it said “Louis Vuitton” “made in” The lettering is all off.
