Hi 👋🏼! I'm Jen. I started my Poshmark closet & boutique to raise $ for JDRF. When my sweet little boy was diagnosed with T1D, I knew I had to do something! As a mom, it's heart-wrenching watching my son get daily shots for this horrible disease. There's no prevention and no cure. However, JDRF sees a light at the end of the tunnel. freshpampleI am type 2, diagnosed a year ago, though I have it very well under control. I've always had since childhood friends with type 1, and now that I'm older, several with type 2 also. I honestly think its scarier for our parents than it is for us. As long as we do what we are supposed to do, life is normal :) The injections don't hurt, REALLY ( I no longer need them). WE WILL FIND A CURE, we will find solid prevention for both types. Feel free to talk to me any time hon, xoxo, Emily.

He is very well managed but I still fear he'll drop in his sleep. I've heard so many horror stories. I love him with all my heart and I just want him cured! freshpample@1cass06 You have been blessed with a beautiful son, he will be fine. I remember when I first went to the pharmacy after diagnosis, and the young tech there that I casually knew, told me I was being over dramatic, he was type 1, and everything was going to be fine, and became my rock. Talking to other people in this situation really made a difference, and I honestly feel better than ever, the food options we have available as alternatives I actually prefer now :) I'm 39 and feel 25.

freshpample@1cass06 Both type 1 & 2 diabetes are more common than people think. It's kinda like gay people, not everyone waks around making it known, but when you say you are, its shocking how many people say they are too. I'm straight, my ex wishes I was a lesbian, lol. But you get the point.

Better than many, an American with so much. You are always going to suffer more than your son. Understand that. But his understanding of it will be seen in your eyes.

1cass06@freshpample Well, it sucks and it's definitely not fair. My cousin just died of MD and he was only 31. It breaks my heart and makes me question everything. No one deserves diseases. I just wish I could do something and make a difference for people suffering with this.

Love scientific research has proven in childhood makes stroger antibodies and healtier kids, and ones who take better care of themselves. Your son is going to be fine dear, really. I know it's scary. I freak out out the slightest with my Himalayan cat son, lol.

sami023He's great- it's been about 13 years since the diagnosis. I'm sure with a child as young as your son it's got to be hard- how long ago did you find out? I'm always hopeful for the future... the advances in medicine recently are like nothing they've ever been so it's amazing that a cure is something practical to hope for.

My brother is also t1- they diagnosed him when he went in for his high school physical... that was almost 15 years ago and even though I was ~9 at the time I remember it so vividly. Probably because the 'adults' didn't want to involve me as much (understandably I suppose lol) so I taught myself about injections and sugar levels etc.

shopmelanieanne@1cass06 everyday is a fight to keep my sugars stable.. but I try my hardest. I truly believe in keeping them somewhat elevated (120-180) no matter what doctors say so that I can still feel when my sugar goes low! shopmelanieanne@1cass06 I was down to a 7 and my doctor said I wasn't taking my insulin properly.. listened to his way and I'm up to 8! 😂🙄 Doctors don't like that I take more long acting to cover my food instead of taking a bunch of short acting every time I eat. I am terrified of lows so I've just found it easier on my body to take a higher dose of long acting rather than every single time I eat. How is your sons?

shopmelanieanne@1cass06 7.3 is really good in my opinion! When I was a teen I was up to 12 at one point. I was on the pump from 13-21 but didn't find that it really made too much of a difference with my sugars. It was also a pain to wear, especially being a girl and wanting to wear cute clothes. The ones they make nowadays though check your sugar and can even bolus for you and tell you when you're low which is pretty amazing! I just hate the site you have to have on you 24-7. 😑☹️

shopmelanieanne@1cass06 you should look into using insulin pens! They are so convenient and a lot less painful than syringes. I take humalog for short acting and basaglar for long acting. It's nice because I can just keep them in my purse, they don't need to be kept cold, and no drawing up! They also make a nano needle which is SO tiny. Sadly my insurance doesn't cover it anymore but they are still less painful than syringes.

shopmelanieanne@1cass06 I actually wrote an appeal letter to my insurance company and my doctor signed it stating that I needed the pens. They stopped covering them when I turned 25. Between my work, school, and gym schedule it is almost impossible for me to draw up shots and be able to keep it cold all day when I'm constantly on the go. They approved it!

It was hard for me when I was a teen watching everything I ate but learned the more insulin I took the more weight I gained so I have learned to watch my Carbs, eat more food that had less carbs & less sugar! bflyvan@1cass06 He was born in 2016, the same year that the very first therapy was approved by the FDA, so he was one of the first to receive the drug. Up until then, this disease was a death sentence, so we had a lot of hope, since the children in the trials were doing so well.

If an opportunity arises, sometimes I will purchase from them then resell it for what it’s worth. I still end up taking offers though. Lol 🙂 All for the cause.💝

mamdjs74@1cass06 sadly my brother doesn't take care of himself very well. I have the pump and dexcom. I Had some kidney issues after my only baby was born but that was 2 yrs ago and all is well now. Also had some retinopathy that required laser treatment while I was pregnant. Its a daily battle. I am going to have my daughter do trialnet to see if she has the antibodies and will eventually have type 1 or not.

Him being on the pump and now glucose monitor has made a huge difference for him and us! It just became a part of our lives..his friends and their parents joined together with us and all of them became “experts” so that he could regular kid stuff! kelly2263Hi Jen - it's Kelly. I have those words "someone I love needs a cure" tattooed on my shoulder. My son was also diagnosed with T1D. Unfortunately, he was not diagnosed until he was in his early 30's, which is very unusual. He was totally insulin dependent, having to give himself shots 4 times a day. It can be a brutal disease, however, many can go on to manage it and live a happy and fulfilling life. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your son. I'm here if you ever need to talk!

kelly2263@1cass06 Hey Jen - My son lost his battle with T1D a year ago. When he was diagnosed he had a hard time accepting it and over the years there was a lot of damage done to his body. He lost the fight when he was 39 years old. Hardest day in his father's and my life! As I'm sure you know, you can live a long and fulfilling life with T1D. Just tell your son to eat healthy, exercise and take his insulin like he is supposed to and he can live a long and happy life. Hugs and prayers to you and your son
