sweetcamilles @starcruson It's actually a convent on the beach near where I live. They hold retreats there! I always see the nuns out walking the beach with their habits on! :)

sweetcamilles @starcruson It's called the Marie Joseph Spiritual Center. I just pulled up the website and it looks even more interesting to me now! We always sit nearby when I go to the beach with my family. I love the building so much! :)

starcruson I googled the info. Been around since the 1800s. Use to be a hotel. Was one a boarding house for women in 1940s...now a spiritual retreat for any denomination. Beautiful. 🙌🙌

sweetcamilles @starcruson It always makes me think of an Anita Shreve book called Fortune Rocks, which is a historical fiction novel set in my town. I always imagine the main house in the book to be very close to this convent!

sweetcamilles @gapeachposher How cool! I lived in Biddeford for ten years, and that was my favorite beach. We spent so many days there! I'm going to miss it so much, as I moved to Colorado two months ago. I know Ill go back to visit though (hopefully every summer). Which book is Anita Shreve's last one? Fortunes Rocks? If so, I loved that one!!!

gapeachposher @sweetcamilles my husband and his family are from Biddeford and my daughter goes to UNE. Small world!! Colorado is beautiful as well, but I bet it’s hard to beat Maine in summer anywhere. I’m wishing I was in Maine today as it’s a 95 here in Atlanta. Finally cooling off tomorrow 🙌🏻. Anita Shreve was actually building a house near Goldthwaite’s market, but unfortunately passed. Her last book is The Stars are Fire about the 1940’s coastal fires. It was so nice meeting you here on Posh 🌸.

I love Maine in summer, but winter, not so much. LOL I'm looking forward to experiencing a Colorado winter. ;) I am a Maine native, so I imagine I will move back again, eventually. Haha

gapeachposher @sweetcamilles sounds like you live in great places.!! Yes, we have been very happy with UNE. Cool your husband worked there, and Boulder is gorgeous as well! You can’t really go wrong either way. I agree that Maine winters are long, but it’s nice to get to enjoy the occasional Christmas there. It actually feels like Christmas.
