Scammer accounts abound here on Poshmark and they prey on higher end items like formal wear, etc. They ask for emails or texts, want you to ship your item and then they cancel payment when it ships so you're out your item and money. They use fake accounts, fake photos from the internet, often times use strange English sentences and wording, and add a nice "God Bless" for measure.

hoppyliz @dkorb basically anyone who asks for emails, texts or calls are scammers. I have not personally been scammed, but many have. The most common is to send a check and then you ship them item. Then once shipped, they cancel the check. Or P a y. Pal scams are common. I would not trust them whatsoever and just stick with Poshmark. 😉

hoppyliz @myranda0526 well I guess if the money is good, then nothing 🤷🏻‍♀️. Have just heard many stories of scammers wanting people to ship a high end item and then canceling payment once it’s shipped. Then it’s too late.

kovetedkloset I have a question and I honestly don't even know where to go to ask. I know poshmark support won't answer me for a few days so I just looked up scammers and this is the first post I saw. I have someone that made a purchase. I usually ship right away but couldn't due to a family emergency. I went to their page to leave them a note and realized things were a little off. First, this person just joined. I can see all of their comments, and they made a bunch of purchases in one day.

kovetedkloset THEN when you go to meet your Posher, it's a bunch of other meet your Posher listings of other people. I've only seen that one other time and it was when I got a comment saying how they are interested in purchasing but to email them (provided an email) on a "welcome to my closet" listing. I'm not super new to Poshmark but I have had a few cases opened against me recently that were so unfair, I've been scared to even make a sale because it's crazy how dishonest people are.

jesslow @kovetedkloset @hoppyliz Hi I’m selling a higher priced prom dress. And got a offer through Poshmark- but the buyer has no history of making purchases etc. I’m considering accepting her offer but maybe not bc of no history. What are y’all’s thoughts or anyone’s thought on this ??

hoppyliz @jesslow if it’s done through Poshmark, at least there are some protections there. I am unsure of a way to scam inside of Posh unless they receive the item and open a case saying it isn’t as described so Poshmark says they can ship it back and they don’t. If that happens I don’t know 100% what happens with the money and you’d be out your dress. You could contact Poshmark and ask about a guarantee for sellers if items aren’t returned? Wish I knew more, sorry!

jesslow @hoppyliz yeah that’s what I’m afraid of since she hasn’t given any “love notes” etc. That sometimes they claim the item isn’t as described and it’s never sent back or they send back something else. I’ll think on it some more.

handropia Several years ago I was pretty active on Poshmark but ended up deactivating my account due to it being a distraction / not getting the sales I would have liked. I am trying it again as I have a lot of items I’d like to sell, and I’m just trying to take it a day at a time. However, I noticed after joining just this month the immense amount of scammers!

handropia … commenting on my listing as soon as it is posted asking me to send them additional photos in their email, etc. It’s crazy. They must be bots or something. I even reached out to Poshmark support and all they said was to block and report the comments. I go so far as to block and report the person at their profile level as well.It’s so annoying and almost makes me want to just forget about the whole thing! Do you think they would do something about these users ruining the app for everyone else?

hoppyliz @handropia Luckily I have not had this happen for a long time, but my items are typically not expensive and it seemed like they preyed more upon higher ticket items (like when we would list a prom dress etc). I also report and block them, but it’s been so many years and nothing has been done on the Poshmark end. Maybe it’s just too vast of a problem to tackle. I hope you have better luck this time around! I’ve been that this for over 10 years.
