catsstuff @nhunguyen86 Hi there. Thanks for your question. You can wear the necklace every day and the stone and chain will not change color as the stone is genuine and the chain is gold filled. It is a forever piece 😊 However I would suggest never wearing jewelry in water as it can strip the luster or damage the surface. Welo opal absorbs water and becomes a little cloudy, temporarily losing some of its fire color and luster.

catsstuff @nhunguyen86 If it got wet you would need to allow a couple of days to a week for the opal to dry back to normal or have it professionally cleaned.

catsstuff @nhunguyen86 I've also never let my opals or any gemstones get wet so I can't guarantee that. From what I know from working with gemstones they should not get wet and should not be cleaned with anything other than a jewelry cloth so I really wouldn't recommend wearing in shower and definitely not swimming with it on.

catsstuff @emmajzbentley Hi! So sorry for the delay I’ve been stuck in meetings all day! Hope the new year has treated you well so far :) Great question! All Gold Filled items the core metal is Brass. So lobster clasps or chains that have gold filled the core metal is brass. If it says “vermeil” then the core is 925 sterling silver.This chain is 14k GF so it does have a brass core.

catsstuff @emmajzbentley Also It has never tarnished in all the years I’ve have been working with it and never caused a reaction that I’m aware of which is why I prefer GF. But I guess it depends on your allergy as well. Hope this info helps!

catsstuff @emmajzbentley If you are still interested I can customize the length for you and make it shorter with an extender. However this chain is delicate and should not fit extremely tight or it may break. I do have a slightly thicker chain I could use that is a bit more sturdy and add an extender so you can adjust it. emmajzbentley @catsstuff is the thicker chain you have 14k gold filled as well? So even though the core is brass since it's 14k as long as it does not tarnish I shouldn't have an allergy right? Brass I would definitely get an allergy to. How long would you make the chain to make it a choker fit?

catsstuff @emmajzbentley Depending on your allergy you would not want your skin exposed to the base metal. With GF the Gold is bonded to the inner core of the brass by heat and pressure. Gold filled maintains its golden shine without exposing the base metal if cared for properly. But I couldn’t tell you whether you would have an allergy or not to gold filled jewelry? Unless it’s solid gold, it will always have some kind of metal base. The thicker chain I have is also gold filled.

catsstuff @emmajzbentley Sorry for the delay I’ve been working 12 hour days this week! The opal is white but it is opaque so it’s see thru. Also it picks up different colors in the natural sunlight. I can look around for a nice quality chain and findings to make for you and I can make any length you want it. catsstuff @caitlincarr The necklace modeled was a custom order and it was 14 3/4”. She wanted it to fit almost like a choker but not tight. Depends on where you want it to fall and your size. 15” and 16” are also a nice short length and I can add like a 2” extender to be safe. No rush if you want to measure one of your necklaces to be safe. It’s a forever piece. It won’t tarnish or change colors 😊
