kvcamp @redochre Glad you like her! I actually rehab bags but have never fully dyed a leather bag. If no one buys her in the next few days, Iā€™m using her as my guinea pig...lol. Sheā€™ll either be a beautiful black or designer trash. šŸ˜

bwaverly
bwaverly I dyed an Alexander Wang bag from grey to black using Fiebings. It worked perfectly, just be careful of the hardware and use a q tip for details. It even worked on the zippers.

kvcamp @jadsdrew I LOVE YOU!!! I rehab bags but haven't dyed this type of super soft leather. Was your leather like this? And did you have any problems with the dye seeping through the leather into the lining? Did your bag have suede trim? This one does & I've seen that you're supposed to use different dye for suede but it would certainly be a pain to use 2 different dyes.
Oct 26Reply
bwaverly
bwaverly @kvcamp I dyed the mini version of this exact bag, the Mini Brenda Camera Bag. The lining on mine was already black so I can't help you there but I used the same dye on the suede trim as well and it all turned out great! I used one quick coat of the sealant on top in addition to Fiebings black. For the zippers I just soaked along them with the little blotter tool and then went back and wiped the dye off the metal.

kvcamp
kvcamp @jadsdrew Sweet! You're definitely the reassurance I needed!! I've watched videos & have been repairing for years but was afraid of dying. I already have the dye & topcoat & I know this bag looks sweet in black. Worse case, if the dye goes through to the lining I'll just dye it also. It'll look better w/ black lining anyway. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!! ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø
Oct 26Reply
bwaverly
bwaverly @kvcamp glad I could help!! It will look great! I've only ever dyed anything black but honestly it's worked well every time.
Oct 26Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @jadsdrew I would dye my entire house black if I could. Black w/ pink & silver trim. My husband won't comply.
Oct 26Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @everclaire13 Absolutely! Had planned to do it a few week ago but got busy w/ other bags. Iā€™ll tag ya when I do it. ā™„ļøšŸ˜Š
Nov 14Reply
thekillerkitten
thekillerkitten @kvcamp do you think you could dye ONLY the suede trim? I love the sea green/ mint color but the trim shows too much wear for my taste. I think I might love the bag with black trim though!
Nov 25Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @thekillerkitten Hi there! I guess you could dye only the suede but w/ this type of leather (or any suede), you canā€™t use leather paint; you have to use leather / suede dye which is a lot thinner. My concern would be the dye ā€˜bleedingā€™ or even transferring from the suede onto the leather b/c itā€™s very soft & porous as opposed to leather on a structured bag. Long story short, I never say never when it comes to bag rehabs but itā€™s not a task Iā€™d feel comfortable doing myself.šŸ˜Š
Nov 25Reply
thekillerkitten
thekillerkitten @kvcamp fair enough! If you're not configurable doing it I certainly wouldn't be šŸ˜Š

mfairlight
mfairlight Following. I'm so interested in y'all dyeing bags! Have you done tie dye?
Nov 27Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @mfairlight Iā€™ve done tie dye on canvas & various fabrics but would never try it on leather. What are you dying?
Nov 27Reply
mfairlight
mfairlight @kvcamp I haven't dyed anything, yet, but I'd love to! I don't know šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø maybe a jacket or purse, Just depends on what I find
Nov 27Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @mfairlight Well, tie dye takes practice. Itā€™s ā€˜dip dyingā€™ (containers filled w/ water & dye). You use a separate container for each color. For your 1st tie dye project, you should use a white t-shirt & only 1-2 colors. Iā€™ve done it once w/ decent results. Iā€™d advise scanning YouTube. There are a ton of tutorials. For dying a leather bag or jacket, youā€™d use leather dye & usually paint it on rather than fully dip it. You can also use leather paint if you just want some color.
Nov 27Reply
mfairlight
mfairlight @kvcamp very cool! I'll check it out. I love leather & it's so cool to realize y'all are dyeing and can dye or paint it!!
Nov 27Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @mfairlight Some types of leather are easier than others. You see a lot of people painting the trim on LV bags - Pink seems to be popular. I donā€™t sell LV so Iā€™ll never do it but I did paint the trim on a Gucci Boston bag. It was white & I painted it brown. Totally forgot about that bag until now! Came out pretty good. I havenā€™t seen it in a while. Must be in one of my bottom bins. Iā€™ll have to pull it out to sell. Iā€™ll tag you when I do so you can see it.
Nov 27Reply
mfairlight
mfairlight @kvcamp Thanks so much! That's awesome! I am already considering what kind of project I could start with. Edges sound alike a good one.
Nov 27Reply
deeeeegolden
deeeeegolden You should definitely color this one black! I think it would sell in a heartbeat for you!
Feb 13Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @deeeeegolden Thatā€™s been the plan for months...lol. I rehab so many bags - this one keeps being put on the back burner. Iā€™m also a bit cautious because itā€™s very soft, absorbent leather & the dye will probably deep into the lining (which I will then have to dye black with a completely different kind of dye...lol. Anyway, Iā€™m awaiting summer so I can sit in the open air while my Rain Man swims in the pool. Less interruptions if heā€™s occupied. šŸ˜
Feb 13Reply
deeeeegolden
deeeeegolden @kvcamp Iā€™m interested in seeing how it turns out! I donā€™t have a handy, nor creative, bone in my body, but I have a black AW bag that has some wear on the soft leather. His leather is so soft! Itā€™s great, but itā€™s just not a good durable daily bag! I know I told you I have quite a few students with autism, on all areas of the spectrum. And, I have a cousin, whoā€™s 24, and non-verbal. He signs, and is so ornery. Heā€™s my favorite person. lol.
Feb 13Reply
deeeeegolden
deeeeegolden @kvcamp My one student with autism was moved from the learning support setting to a more restrictive environment in the life skills classroom. He also has the worst case of ADHD Iā€™ve ever seen! He is the best. I literally couldnā€™t get anything done because he was a runner, and he would make me laugh. I always say, Iā€™m so intrigued by autism, I just want to be in their minds for just one day!! In case you canā€™t tell, I love special education! Lol.
Feb 13Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @deeeeegolden My son speaks (thank God) & never shuts up. 11 yrs old & very high functioning. Most donā€™t realize heā€™s autistic until he starts talking about his obsessions (toilets & drains). DONā€™T GET ME STARTED. Iā€™m a germ freak & it TOTALLY grosses me out. Iā€™ve worn a bathroom key around my neck for 7 yrs. b/c he deliberately tries to clog EVERYTHING. Little sh*t. Luckily, he understands my sarcasm & cynicism. If he didnā€™t, Iā€™d be locked in a rubber room, I swear.
Feb 13Reply
deeeeegolden
deeeeegolden @kvcamp hahaha. OMG. Trust me, I know how they fixate on things. Let me just tell you, the last election I had 4 kids that would talk about it non-stop. I felt like I was on C-Span. I was so glad when the election was over. Lol. Thatā€™s great that heā€™s verbal. Itā€™s so hard to find sign language interpreters these days. I always tell kids to go to school to become one because they will make tons of money!

kvcamp @deeeeegolden My Son was constantly secluded in public school & they actually shut his finger in a door & partially amputated it. Had to have surgery on Xmas eve, 2013. There are no words to describe. The lawsuit was just settled (on a technicality & my lawyerā€™s poor representation of my case). I basically walked away owing money. My son is in private school now & doing well. Iā€™m hiring another attorney to sue the district again & my lawyer. LONG story.
Feb 13Reply
deeeeegolden
deeeeegolden @kvcamp Iā€™m so sorry to hear that. I donā€™t blame you for suing them. I hope you make a buttload of money. I know itā€™s not about the money, but they should have to pay. Luckily, PA is one of the best states for teaching and education in general. Itā€™s hard to find a teaching job in PA because we get paid well. 10 mins away in WV itā€™s another story.

deeeeegolden @kvcamp Itā€™s refreshing to hear about a parent take an active role in their childā€™s education. You wouldnā€™t believe the amount of IEP meetings I hold where parents never come. Itā€™s sad!!

kvcamp
kvcamp @deeeeegolden My Son walks around yelling, ā€˜Trump sucks assā€™. Iā€™m not proud of the verbiage. The day after I watched the State of the Union, my Son had LOTS of colorful language at school. The staff raves about it at his PPT. Of course, I label my statements ā€˜allowed to sayā€™ & ā€˜not allowed to sayā€™. He actually debates people because I raise him exactly as I did my daughter. Speak your mind, express opinion, donā€™t ague. Just debate & stick to your guns.

mswhite56
mswhite56 @kvcamp Can she be cleaned at the leather cleaners, or do you think because of her light color that it wonā€™t go well?
Feb 18Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @mswhite56 To be honest, I donā€™t know. I do my own bag rehab work / leather cleaning. Iā€™m not sure what a pro leather cleaning service would do. I do know that it SUPER soft & absorbent leather (not sealed like typical leather). If ya read all of the previous comments, youā€™ll see that Iā€™m planning to paint her black if no one decides to buy b/c the various leather cleaners I use wonā€™t work. A pro might do it but donā€™t know the cost. šŸ˜Š

Apr 05Reply
joange
joange i am very interested in this bag. Can it hold much weight- 10 or more pounds? thank you!
Apr 06Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange I donā€™t have a way to tell how much weight it will hold but it is definitely a nice sized bag. The measurements are in the description. šŸ˜Š
Apr 06Reply
joange
joange yes! i like the measurements of this beautiful bag. When it is convenient for you, would it be possible for you to pack it with some weight, some books, maybe, so that i can have a sense if it can hold more than 10 lbs ? i would really appreciate it! i have a serious crush on this bag ! šŸ¬ thank you!
Apr 06Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange To be honest, I donā€™t think it would be a very good book bag. Itā€™s not a thick, strong / stiff leather. Itā€™s very soft & would likely stretch & possibly tear if you tried to use it with large, pointy books.
Apr 06Reply
joange
joange When i wrote my previous message to you, i actually had the same thoughts about the pointy edges on the leather !! i wonā€™t be using it for books, but i do haul around a bunch of stuff and am hoping that this bag can hold about 10 lbs. Would it be possible for you to pack it with some (soft) items that together weigh about 8 lbs ? thank you ! i really like this bag!
Apr 06Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange Iā€™ll see what I can put together. Iā€™ll grab a bunch of things you might carry in your bag & photograph everything that easily fits. Howā€™s that sound?
Apr 07Reply

joange re: true color- are the photos really close to the everyday color ? the color of the top tie looks a bit less vibrant, a bit paler, so i am just double checking that the other color photos are really close to the ā€˜trueā€™ color! šŸ¬ thank you!!
Apr 07Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange The tie is the actual color. I brightened the other pics in order to show the soil on the bag. Sorry for the delay answering. Weā€™re remodeling my studio (going on 4 months now) & itā€™s tough to find space to lay things out. Iā€™m posting a message & photo to show what I was able to fit into the bag in a couple of minutes.
Apr 08Reply
joange
joange not a problem at all ! i appreciate the update re: true color, and your labors to show what the bag can hold. thank you! šŸŒ·
Apr 08Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange The vertical zippers in the center front & back open to expand the bag. Without opening the zippers, I was able to fit what you see: Baseball cap, water, capri sweats, small Fendi, mini Fendi, cell phone wallet & black wallet. If you expand the bag, you can fit more. The lighting in this room is different than the lighting I used when taking the original photos. The color is basically slightly darker & a tiny bit more green than Tiffany blue.
Apr 08Reply
joange
joange !! thank you very much for what you have done to describe what the bag can hold, i really appreciate you doing that! i have to admit that i like more of a green, so now i will keep pondering! What a beautiful bag! thank you!! šŸŒŠšŸ¬ āœŒšŸ¼
Apr 08Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange No problem. Like I said it is more green. Iā€™m trying to think of something to compare the color to so you can think, ā€˜Oh, I understandā€™ but itā€™s hard to even get accurate colors with my phone. Iā€™m a professional photographer but all of my professional equipment is in storage because weā€™re remodeling my studio (which is for photography & bags...lol).
Apr 08Reply
joange
joange So, you really know light and color ! i used to do film lighting, so i have a sense of how elusive / challenging recreating ā€˜trueā€™ color is. ? between the color in the ā€˜tie photoā€™, and the color in the last photo, is one of them more ā€˜accurateā€™ to the eye? thank you, such an artful bag ! šŸ’«
Apr 08Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange Okay...lol...you understand lighting. Thatā€™s awesome! The one with all of the ā€˜stuffā€™ was in a room midday that faces away from the sun light (no blinds or curtains). It was on the floor about 3 feet away & 4 feet under the window. I had to brighten the shot because I didnā€™t want to use a flash (that can throw everything off even more). Iā€™m going to see if I can find something online that is a good representation of the color.
Apr 08Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange Okay. I added a paint swatch color that matches it as close as possible. I have an iPhone 7 Plus with the screen brightness set exactly in the middle of dark & bright. Hopefully that helps...lol.
Apr 08Reply
joange
joange Thank you, thoughtful woman, šŸ“· for that wonderfully descriptive information of the type of light that lit that photo !! very cool ! Natural/ real light is one of the most difficult things to recreate, (i think). Thank you for searching for something with a color that is close to the color of that great bag!! šŸ§—šŸ½ā€ā™€ļøšŸŒ·
Apr 09Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange Keep in mind that Iā€™m indoors under a yellow-ish bulb. It will be a lighter in daylight. Iā€™m on the east coast so daylight is long gone...lol.
Apr 09Reply
joange
joange when you write ā€˜brighten the shotā€™ is that with a setting on your phone camera ? (i am a curious person). I will appreciate any visual to get the color tone, so, thank you! Also, please do only what can comfortably work into your schedule/life, okay? no rush ! āœŒšŸ¼šŸŒ¾

Apr 11Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange I totally understand. The problem is, it really depends on the lighting & itā€™s hard to find the exact color. Itā€™s sunny today so I can take it outside in the natural light & take some more pictures. Iā€™ll try to find a black background & see if that helps. All of my photography equipment (including backdrops are in storage while we remodel my studio but I may have a black sheet somewhere. šŸ˜Š

Apr 13Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange Iā€™m sorry but I really donā€™t think I can do any better trying to explain the color. When I listed this last year, my intention was to only keep it posted for a little while & if no one wanted to buy it soon after it was listed, I was going to keep it & dye it black. I rehab bags & need to work on dying soft leather like this so I think Iā€™m going to keep it for now, dye it & see how it goes. I think itā€™s the best thing for everyone. Iā€™d hate for someone to buy & not like the color.
Apr 13Reply
joange
joange okay, i understand! maybe i will check back in with you, if you havenā€™t yet dyed it, i will probably buy it !! thank you for all of your energy on this, i really appreciate it ! āœŒšŸ¼šŸŒŠšŸ¬šŸ’«

joange sorry to bug you with this (color) ? is the zipper a light green, rather than a blue ? thank you! i hope that you and your son are having okay days ! šŸŒŠ
Apr 17Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange Thae zippers are gold. The fabric around the zippers is basically a shade darker than the original color of the bag before it faded.
Apr 17Reply
joange
joange thank you! so, the fabric color on the zippers is more green than blue, is that accurate? thank you!
Apr 17Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange It depends on the lighting. Weā€™re basically going back to the same color issue. The entire bag is an aqua color but some parts are slightly darker than others because the color has faded. The suede trim is soiled from general use. Since itā€™s very, very soft, porous leather, I canā€™t clean the suede without damaging the leather. Itā€™s not a new bag & it definitely shows use which is why itā€™s priced so low. The only way to get it one, absolute uniform color would be to dye it.
Apr 17Reply

joange
joange I hope that you are healing up okay from your dear tick surgery. What a drag ! I have a leather treatment question for you: I have several (clogs, satchel, sandals) natural vegetable tanned leather items. Previously (on other bags/ clogs) i have used a shoe store treatment cream...it left a darker color tone, and a finish that i donā€™t like. Do you have
Jun 03Reply
joange
joange any ideas for a treatment (from water marks, etc.) that may leave a more ā€˜naturalā€™ finish ? thank you for reading/ considering my question. I know that you are busy with a bunch oā€™ stuff ! thank you !! šŸŒ·āœØ
Jun 03Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange Itā€™s really hard to say without seeing them. By your description, it seems as though the purse leather is very porous which is probably why the product you used darkened the color. You likely used a polish thatā€™s made for leather that has a bit of a sheen to it so your leather basically sucked up the product instead of ā€˜coatingā€™ it. Since there are watermarks and / or stains on the others, the only option I can think of would be dying them. (Continued...)
Jun 03Reply
joange
joange Thank you for your ideas ! the leather was not porous- it was very firm, like saddle leather. (i wasnā€™t very clear- there are no water marks, yet !) so, i am wanting to treat the three before i use them.
Jun 03Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange Itā€™s hard to know what to use on leather thatā€™s ā€˜flatā€™ or not a little shiny. Anything you use will most likely layer on top of whatever marks are already there & therefore, the marks will still show. Many products will darken leather that have lost their natural oils - think of it as the leather being thirsty. Itā€™s going to drink it up & hold it. Dye will likely cover marks but youā€™d want to go darker than the existing color to cover marks. (Continued...)
Jun 03Reply
joange
joange But your feedback makes a lot of sense; i.e. the product possibly being for a shiny finish. So, i am searching for a product that will just seal/ protect the firm/ hard, ā€˜saddle likeā€™ leather. i hope this description is coming across !! thank you for much for thinking about my leather challenge- i really appreciate it !!
Jun 03Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange There are a TON of blogs & YouTube videos that teach about leather types. Iā€™ve learned by watching & reading hours of them over years. Also trial & error - Iā€™ve ruined quite a few bags by diving in before I knew how to swim. A couple of suggestions: Go to a thrift store & buy something with the same type of leather & experiment after you do a bit of research. (Continued...)
Jun 03Reply
joange
joange On second thought, i do not know enough about leather to state that is ā€˜wasnā€™t porousā€™ ! It is very firm, almost ā€˜hardā€™ leather, like an untreated natural firm veg tanned leather. But very firm/ tight. (if this helps to clarify!) thank you for your thoughts about this !
Jun 03Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange A VERY helpful thing for me was & probably how I learned the most was by buying a package of leather scraps from Michaelā€™s. The packs have a bunch of leather types & colors that you can practice on. Tip: You can order ANY Amazon Prime item, try it & return it if itā€™s not what you need. I know it sounds sleazy but within 30 days, as long as itā€™s Prime, you can return the item - but you have to check the box that says ā€˜wrong web descriptionā€™ or ā€˜not as describedā€™....lol.

Again, i realized that my description could have been more precise: there is a very light ā€˜sheenā€™ to these items (all very similar leather.) The dry leather absorbing the treatment/moisture- something like this, makes a lot of sense. I appreciate your time and ideas. thank you !

kvcamp @joange Just saw last message - firm & ā€˜untreatedā€™ leather will darken easier but there are some that will just condition it. Depends on the type of oil in the product. You mentioned ā€˜saddleā€™ type leather. Saddle soap will darken. Donā€™t use it. I canā€™t remember which wax is in it but know from experience, it will darken. I would hit the internet blogs & YouTube. Try specifically looking for cleaning / polishing UGGS or Birkenstocks. Sounds like your type of leather.

joange thank you ! again, my description was not very clear. Untreated, as in ā€˜natural leather, and not dyed. But it is VERY smooth, firm, ā€˜hardā€™ leather. Like a slab of veg tanned leather from a leather store, if this makes sense? thank you !
Jun 03Reply
joange
joange and, yeah, i really agree about the saddle soap, for me, it has both really darkened, AND left a very flat, ā€˜dustyā€™ appearance. a mistake when i used it. again, thank you ! ? are you a bit better from your tic- bite treatment? i hope so ! šŸ’«šŸ’ŖšŸ¼

kvcamp @joange Hard to tell if Iā€™m better from the tick issue. 3 weeks of Doxycycline & I still have to go get tested for Lyme. The other problem is that weā€™re in Connecticut & this is the worst year in history for ticks. Iā€™ve pulled 3 off of me since going on the Doxycycline. Itā€™s insane. We just hired a company to treat our entire yard but ticks are still impossible to avoid & I donā€™t even hang around outside. Iā€™m an indoor gal.
Jun 03Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange Also - Iā€™m working right now (this minute) on a Prada w/ the same leather that you describe. Very good tip - when using liquid polish (which is ALWAYS easier), get an assortment of artist paintbrushes (for all types of paint). Amazon sells a good one (about $7.00). I take the bottle of whatever Iā€™m using & mash & squeeze the top of the bottle on a paper plate to get a puddle. Itā€™s easier to avoid streaks if you can apply w/ a brush it in a quick even coat.

joange !! ay yay yay !! what a huge handful- pulling 3 ticks off of you, when spending not a lot of outside time...kind of overwhelming....arghhhh. I think that there may be some types of essential oils (minty ones- eucalyptus, peppermint) that ticks donā€™t like, and possibly the one that helps to repel mosquitoes ( iā€™m blanking on the name- smells like very strong geranium. Begins with ā€œCā€. ) What a scary hand full, especially with the summer coming.
Jun 03Reply

joange Re: oils... you put some drops in your palm, and add a ā€˜carrierā€™, some unscented body lotion, and cover arms, neck, body, exposed places. It is not ā€˜toxicā€™ like some of the repellents can be. Sending you good protective wishes for an intense summer ahead ! yikes !!
Jun 03Reply
joange
joange heyšŸŒ , thank you for that very good information, re: liquid, and the brushes !! it is always that nerve wracking first layer, the speed run to cover the leather without the streaks... thank you ! šŸŒ·āœØ

joange
joange !! Citronella, this is the oil that mosquitoes donā€™t like. Probably a lot more online re: less toxic substances you and your family might use, especially your son, who may possibly have his chemistry (with medication) more sensitive to bug repellent stuff. šŸŒ šŸŒŠšŸ¬
Jun 03Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange I actually make lotions, laundry detergent & my husbandā€™s shampoo but Iā€™m VERY sensitive to smells. Iā€™ve made various lotions that I can tolerate but with ticks, Iā€™d literally need to lotion up my entire body & head everyday. Not likely to happen. The oils & repellents are great for people like my husband & son before they go hiking but honestly, no matter what I (we) do, weā€™re going to get ticks. Itā€™s just a matter of catching them before theyā€™ve been attached less than 24 hrs.
Jun 04Reply
joange
joange ahh...well, i am glad that the ā€˜stuffā€™ works for your son and your husband. I didnā€™t know that within a 24 hr time period, that there is a better outcome. What a supreme challenge....ughhhh i wish you a summer of fewer ticks to remove !! šŸ§žā€ā™€ļø
Jun 04Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange Thank you! Yes, the longer they are attached, the more likely the Lyme bacteria will be transferred. We can actually send ticks that weā€™ve pulled of ourselves to UCONN & theyā€™ll test it for Lyme, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever & the 5 or 6 bacterium that ticks carry. Unfortunately, it costs $100 per tick. Ugh!
Jun 04Reply
joange
joange Good technology to be able to access, and what a chunk of $$. ? i wonder if they will ever do a ā€˜sliding scaleā€™ for the $100, or, maybe a group of community members can do a group fundraise, so that for all of us regular people who donā€™t have an easy $100 to check the bacteria levels of each tick- maybe a ā€˜group money potā€™ can be raised via ā€œGoFundMeā€, or something similar. I have had some serious challenges, but nothing like the plentiful tick situation. oouufphh...
Jun 04Reply
joange
joange Maybe some big money people in N.Y. (or your state) can be approached to donate into a fund and it will be a tax deductible donation, so that it is framed as a ā€œgood works health projectā€, something like that, so that there is an available fund of $$ for people who need to check their tickā€™s bacteria. It could be a project, even, for school credits, for the person/ people who figure out the fund raising/ who keep it organized.
Jun 04Reply
joange
joange It could be framed as a public health priority, so that people can have less stress about the constant possibilities of being infected with one of those life- altering diseases. Feel free to tell me that you are not needing my ā€˜what ifsā€™ hehe !! Again, i wish you a summer of many less tick encounters !! šŸ§žā€ā™€ļøšŸŒŸ
Jun 04Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange Yeah...it depends on the state. My parents live in Virginia & theyā€™ll test ticks for free but I think itā€™s only testing for Lyme. Iā€™d prefer having all of the bacterium tests because so many of the illnesses that are transmitted arenā€™t detected until someone is very ill. Since the population of ticks is so high, all of the diseases need to be tested for. Itā€™s a serious flaw in the medical system. Our insurance wonā€™t cover tests for other tick born illnesses - only Lyme.
Jun 04Reply
joange
joange I really agree- it is a very challenging flaw in the medical/ insurance system. It is awful to be one of those people, who years later, finds that their awful beguiling symptoms are a result of a tick bite. Iā€™ve known/ seen at physical therapy, etc. some people whose lives have been seriously messed with, on account of the one tick bite. Maybe this year, that is going to be so heavy with tick infestations, can possibly start some public pressure

joange You are welcome! It feels a bit overwhelming- to me, it would be. In the article, there is a woman who was shearing a sheep, and became covered with more than one hundred of the ticks. The vet, (?) or researcher went to see her sheep

joange and became covered in the first few minutes, by uber many ticks- just from stepping into the sheepā€™s quarters. I know that you mentioned that you are very sensitive to scents. Donā€™t know if the lemon eucalyptus that can be very affective would be off putting to you. AuraCacia is a very good brand of essential oils. Sounds beautiful were you are, along with many ticks !

joange Iā€™m in California, above a canyon. There is a very large western diamond rattlesnake that lives in the yard. The fire captain told me that they are very territorial- so this is the land the snake has selected. I have been very lucky- at times, i havenā€™t been looking ahead of me
Aug 08Reply
joange
joange and iā€™ve come within 5 feet of the snake. Each time, the snake has been lounging, and didnā€™t move at all. I just took a scorpion outside from the kitchen floor. (A group of them came up in some plants from Mexico.) So far, no problems. I think that the ticks are probably more challenging!

joange Hello ! i recognize that you are very busy w your work and w momming, and i understand if you do not have time to respond to this question: the ā€˜mobileā€™ inner lining of beautiful larger leather bag (i bought on Posh) has an overpowering perfume scent that i am trying to eradicate.
Dec 11Reply
joange
joange Iā€™ve tried to counter it w essential oils (rosemary, sage, lemon.) ? Do you think that if a douse the lining w dry baking soda and leave it to absorb the soda, that that could help to remove a lot of the very strong scent ? do you know of other odor cancelling substances (charcoal may be too messy, but it may be a possibility.) thank you and happy holidays ! ā„ļøšŸ’«
Dec 11Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange Iā€™m not too busy for questions like this....love to help. Donā€™t put any additional scented substances on it. By adding the oils, youā€™re actually locking in the odors - if the initial odor was in fact perfume, that also probably had oil in it. There are a few options for removing odor depending on the type of lining. You wrote ā€˜mobileā€™ lining. I havenā€™t heard the term before. What type of bag is it?
Dec 11Reply
joange
joange Hello ! thank you, so much ! i think i probably made up the term/ description, for a lining that isnā€™t sewn in, or anchored in- i am able to pull the entire lining out of the bag (away from the leather). thank you for that important info re: not adding any additional oils. It is a LAMB McGuinness bag. Again, thank you for thinking about this !
Dec 12Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange No need to thank me. Iā€™m not familiar w/ LAMB but I did a quick search to look at linings but didnā€™t see photos detailed enough for me to tell if they are silky or more like a cotton / poly blend. If itā€™s a natural textile (silk, cotton), the oils absorb & bind to the fibers so the smell is a bit more difficult to remove. If the lining is polyester or nylon, the oils are only stuck to the fibers. Still not easy to remove but easier. What does it feel like? Is there a tag inside?
Dec 12Reply
joange
joange The lining is one rectangular piece that i am able to pull out and away from the body of the bag. It is sewn in very solidly at the top/ opening of the bag. šŸŒ·
Dec 12Reply
joange
joange the fabric is probably close to a tight canvas. ( it is packed up in a box, as the handles need repair at their insert to the bag.)
Dec 12Reply
joange
joange Sorry ! i didnā€™t see your message come in ! I am almost positive that it is a cotton fabric/ not silky. and, (thank you) for looking it up ! very kind of you.
Dec 12Reply
joange
joange I looked at the tag in another šŸ‘ bag w the same lining- it only lists ā€˜leatherā€™. The lining does have a bit of sheen to it- a woven sturdy fabric. i looked online for the makeup- havenā€™t found it yet, but iā€™ll keep looking and iā€™ll ask several people who buy & sell LAMB.
Dec 12Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange Okay. Iā€™m pretty sure I know the type of lining. You can try the baking soda method. Iā€™m not sure itā€™ll work but itā€™s not going to hurt it. My suggestion would be to lay to lay the bag on a bath towel on the floor & pull the lining out. Fill in a medium Tupperware container w. warm water & use a non-scented deodorant soap. Iā€™ve used Safeguard (only comes in bar form). Wet a washcloth, rub the soap on it & scrub the lining. (Continued...)
Dec 12Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange Then, rinse the lining under warm at the sink. As long as the leather isnā€™t butter soft & ā€˜nakedā€™, any water than runs onto the leather can just be wiped off. Once you rinse the lining, put it back (w/ lining still out) on the clean part of the floor towel you used to first wash it. Then, grab a small towel (like a hand towel) & start rubbing the lining. Smell the hand towel & you should smell the perfume on it. (Continued...)
Dec 12Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange You may have to repeat this multiple times. You mentioned earlier using baking soda - Iā€™ve never used it because itā€™s hard to clean powder off some fabrics but if itā€™s a slippery fabric, you can put the lining (thatā€™s still wet) on a towel or baking pan & sprinkle a generous ant of baking soda. Let it sit over night & when itā€™s dried, rinse off the baking soda & use a clean, dry towel to squeeze & wipe as much water off as possible.

kvcamp
kvcamp @joange Youā€™re very welcome. Depending on how strong the odor, you may need to repeat the process. Another thing you can try is called ā€˜Zero Odorā€™. Itā€™s sold on Amazon & itā€™s AMAZING. Itā€™s not cheap but IT WORKS! I tell people to buy it just to have around. Before my dog passed, she had 2 huge pee accidents on my brand new bed, I saturated the spots & put a plastic garbage bag on top. The smell was GONE. The spot remained but NO smell. AMAZING STUFF!
Dec 12Reply
joange
joange Zero Odor definitely sounds like a very good find- i will get some ! Iā€™m familiar w ā€˜Natures Miracleā€™ ( for four legged pees) but Zero Odor is news to me. I am glad that your sweet pea was up in your bed w you, they make life good. ! Thank you for your very good information !! šŸŒŸ

Dec 12Reply
joange
joange mistake: household ($17)...pet ($12.99)
Dec 12Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange Itā€™s definitely the ā€˜Householdā€™ one. My husband wears one of those one-piece leather motorcycle racing suits & itā€™s like $100 to have them cleaned - which of course, we canā€™t afford so he sticks the bottle in there & sprays it. Believe me - that thing gets stinky & thereā€™s no odor after he sprays it. I used to use Natureā€™s Miracle but they changed it & it has a horrible smell now. Iā€™m super sensitive to smell & the Zero Odor only has a very faint, neutral scent that fades away.
Dec 12Reply
joange
joange Thank you for that first hand experience and information! Glad that it is the ā€˜householdā€™ form that is strong enough. I havenā€™t used Natures Miracle in a couple years, and i didnā€™t know about that change. Unfortunate, cuz scents can really get on a personā€™s nerves. I guess because they are such a fundamental sense. āœŒšŸ¼ thank you! āœØ
Dec 12Reply
joange
joange I had forgotten about being able to use bar soup to prep/ pre-clean items, so thank you ! (havenā€™t gotten to the bag lining yet). I think i remember that you make laundry soaps- if you get in a pinch/ donā€™t have time, Biokleen (i like the liquid form) is effective, biodegradable, in unscented and ā€˜barelyā€™ scented: grapefruit oil, (possible addition of another very light citrus, as cleaning agent.)
Dec 17Reply
joange
joange can i bug you with a question ? i just bought an item from someone, and in addition to the $6.79 shipping fee, there is a $6.49 tax charge- iā€™ve never been charged for a tax fee before- is this a newer change in Posh policy ? thank you for any information that you may have, and i hope that you and your sweet peas are all faring well ! šŸŒ·
Jun 23Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange Yup. Itā€™s a new thing. I remember seeing a notice from Posh about it but donā€™t remember what it said. I should probably pay attention to stuff like that...lol...but the last sale I had here was May 2nd & I didnā€™t receive any sales tax. The big auction site automatically collects it on behalf of the seller for certain states (amount varies depending on stateā€™s tax rate).
Jun 23Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange I should probably find out if Iā€™m going to have to declare sales on taxes next year. šŸ¤”
Jun 23Reply
joange
joange ! thank you very much for replying with that information, and so quickly - i really appreciate you doing this ! From the little that i read after i wrote/ asked you, it seems as though it may apply to some states, and possibly not to others. The seller included it, so it may be something that you, the seller, has the option to include in the final total. thank you ! āœØāœŒšŸ¼šŸŒ·
Jun 24Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange Could be. They donā€™t give me the option. I just read that the auction site collects it & submits it directly to the state on the sellerā€™s behalf (if the sellerā€™s state requires it). In Connecticut, it applies to sellers that have sold at least $250,000 during the last 12 months. I definitely donā€™t fall into that category...lol
Jun 24Reply

joange well, that is some small blessing, i guess, to not be in the 250,000 category ! šŸŒ·

kvcamp @joange Which bag?
Nov 06Reply
joange
joange A L.A.M.B. bag- the lining has a heavy perfume scent. Many months ago, you answered my question re: how to remove the heavy scent- you looked up, and then wrote the steps to wash the lining. Then you wrote the info re: the spray your husband uses on his motorcycle leathers.
Nov 08Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange Ahh...yes. For perfume, you might want to do my baking soda thing. Did I explain how to do that? Itā€™s cheap. Like $10.00 in supplies. Just have to be patient. I did a Gucci tote that had an entire bottle of perfume spilled inside.
Nov 09Reply
joange
joange Whenever you might have the time to write what the baking soda process is, i would really welcome that information.šŸŒ· It sounds as though your process was successful with that heavy spill- yikes. thank you!
Nov 09Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange It was very successful. It requires patience is all. You have to get like one of those disposable aluminum turkey pans at the grocery store. Also need storage containers. Small enough to sit around the bag in the pan and one for inside the bag. You need a crap load of baking soda. Like 8 boxes. And a garbage bag....
Nov 09Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange You sit the bag in the pan. Fill the storage containers like 2/3 full with the baking soda. Store brand is fine. Put as many containers as you can (2/3 full) around the bag IN the pan. Put one IN the bag. Leave bag open. CAREFULLY slide the entire thing into a garbage bag and tie the bag. CAREFULLY put it somewhere no one will touch it...
Nov 09Reply
joange
joange I have the patience, and the smaller containers - iā€™ll go get the aluminum pan, and the 8 boxes of baking soda. Thank you !!
Nov 09Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange Leave it sit for a few days. Pull the pan out of the garbage bag. Remove the containers of baking soda. Smell them. They should smell like perfume. If bag still smells, you repeat the entire process. It took like 3 weeks to get rid of the Gucci perfume but it was BAAAD. I actually washed it in the washing machine first because it was CRUSTED with perfume.
Nov 09Reply
kvcamp
kvcamp @joange If you repeat the process, you use new baking soda in all of the containers.
Nov 09Reply
