In case you don't know this, that is called a prayer box. It was and still is used by Catholics. They place a prayer on a small piece of paper (Mary's cancer) fold it up and place in the prayer box. It holds that prayer next to their heart. It is an ongoing prayer to Christ as long as it's in the prayer box. It may sound silly to most but I think it's a beautiful tradition. Just thought you might find that interesting. By the way, your cross is beautiful.
