pearlspoint @bluepacific805 Yes, there is monetary value and then there is sentimental value. My most treasured strand of pearls is the one my Mom scraped up money to buy when I was in my early twenties. The pearls are really small, have little to no luster, and most have peck marks in them. I LOVE that piece and would not give it up for the world. I say enjoy the one your grandmother gave you and hang on to it! Thank you too, for the compliments :). Have a great evening!

pearlspoint @maidmarian Yes! Definitely buy a pearl gauge. I paid less than $10 for the one you see in my listings and I bought from the pearl farmer in China. It is SO important to have pictures with the millimeter gauge. I've had one case in 107 sales, and it was before I put pictures of the size :). I was lucky and got my pearl strand back and learned my lesson! All the best!

pearlspoint @maidmarian I just went there and didn't see one like mine :(. The ones that slide are not good enough. I have one of those, but the readout on the gauge is really important. Also, make sure when you invest in one that it won't damage the pearl (or bead) when you place it between the points! I'm sorry I can't reveal my China pearl farmer, but they look more expensive on both eBay and Amazon :(.

jbrasington Hi @pearlspoint! Your “about me” page answered one of my primary questions as to where you find your pearls. Do you ONLY buy freshwater or do you buy others as well? I have a strand of akoya (it was a special & sentimental purchase) but always look for more. One can NEVER have too many pearls! (Especially us southern women! 😂)

pearlspoint @jbrasington Almost all are freshwater. The Edisons are bead nucleated (sometimes called reborn) and have a more metallic luster. I have two golden south seas listed.
