jennifersmit498 Hi Fran, yes, Jen is improved dramatically. Her left side is weak from the stroke, but she can now lift 10lbs. She went from a few pounds to 10. We’ll come to find out, Jen wanted her mom to put a weight in her draw so she could practice when no one was around. She’s been doing the same with her speech. Cont.

jennifersmit498 Doctor wanted her to start with easy words so, we got her 2 favorite childhood books, Sam I Am and Madeline. Jen has been practiced so hard. She can read almost all of Sam...but Madeline is harder for her. It’s not that she doesn’t know rather words, it’s she can’t get her mouth to say the words. So the easier the word the better she regains her speech. Cont.

jennifersmit498 The feeding tube was taken out last Saturday. All signs of the meningitis is gone. All IVs are out. Jens former students call everyday and read to her. Also, if she continues to hear words, she tries to pronounce them. She’s a freakin trooper. I wish I had and ounce of her resolve. Ok, the issues of her stop breathing while she sleep with a very low oxygen level is still unresolved. She’ll still lose 75-89% of her stomach in a few months. Cont.

jennifersmit498 Jen is continues to lose weight here in the hospital. I think she’s lost 23lbs now. She was skinny before, she now looks sickly skinny, but I see a beautiful woman that I love. I know others will stare at her, the nurses do. When they remove the stomach, Jen will have a serious weight issue. Doctor predicts she’ll lose 39+lbs quickly. Cont.

jennifersmit498 She’ll have to be on a monitored diet for the rest of her life. She’ll most likely will have diminished speech for the rest of her life. The damage of the stroke left seizure activity. She hasn’t had one yet, but she can have seizures. We just got the news on that today. The sleep apnea mask helps her a lot. She’s had only 3.7 stop breathing episodes last night. Cont.

jennifersmit498 I’m sorry I haven’t updated you. I’ve been putting updates in Merri Grace listing. However, Jen had certain names written down and I thought everyone was getting the updates. I messed up on that. I’ll make sure you and the other ladies receive personal updates. Jen maybe discharged this weekend if she continues to improve. Dr. Gerwin would not discharge her unless she was ready. Cont.

jennifersmit498 I have the home nurse all set up. They’ll be doing therapy at the house. Dr. Gerwin will be checking in on her everyday. He’s awesome. I’m so glad I called him. I told Jen what everyone on Posh has been and continues to do for her. Some people want to send gifts. I’m not sure about that. Jen is a giver, it’s hard for her to receive;unless it’s from LV.
