brookepruden This inverted pleat, nipped waist and wide lapel used to be called a Gable back jacket or a Gable blazer, after Clark Gable, as it was a style he popularized. Really enhances the body’s frame, man or woman! My Mom, a N.Y. runway model in the 1930-1940’s, loved this style. Great jacket!!

You might be interested in a program I started watching on CNN last evening (I was on a Jetblue plane & bide my time trying to find something interesting during the flights). I think it was called American Style, & it was the history of the American fashion industry from the 40s & up.

amarciascloset @londonsmimi0320 being a tweed, it’s always hard to tell exactly, since the colors seem to vary, but I would say mainly black & beige. It does look a bit brown because of that, as well at times olive. That’s why it actually goes with so much.

katesize8 Hello, Kate here. I hate to ask since you have done such a great job of photographing and measuring, but there is one more measurement that if you would please: on the back, the widest part of the shoulder to shoulder, probably 2" down from the top of the shoulder seam. I will know if it will fit my swimmer shoulders. Thanks so much.

amarciascloset @katesize8 I too have a swimmers back & have to size up for any top, w/sleeves. This style looks so well for one especially w/a braid back since the shoulders are padded a little. The jacket fits me well, even over a few lighter layers. I hadn’t seen it in a while & wanted to try it on. It’s stunning!
