inclusive_style@shannonv319 hi - it is Saffiano leather, which is the cross-hatch imprint on the leather. So, no, it is not smooth soft leather. The cross hatch makes it very durable, however, and resistant to scratches and nicks. If you are looking for a smooth leather tote, I suggest the other yellow tote I have listed from B Makowsky.
