Hemiplegic Migraines are VERY rare & people experience weakness on one side of their body IN ADDITION to a MIGRAINE HEADACHE. This kind of migraine MIMICS A STROKE & can be devastating to the person with the condition as well as her/his family & loved ones.
There is no known cure.
Since opening my closet in 2019, I have been raising awareness for this rare & deadly disease: Hemiplegic Migraines. Thanks to Poshmark, I have reached a whole new audience.
Personally, and I’m not afraid to admit it, I’ve been living with this condition (misdiagnosed for many years) all my life.
I was a only 17 years old the first time I passed out and no doctors understood why.
Traveling on the Philadelphia subway train to my after-school job in my Catholic School uniform, I can only imagine what people around me must have thought when I passed out for the very first time.No one even paused to help me! I remember that day like it was yesterday…it still haunts me. Scary!
It wasn’t until much later in my adult life when I passed out in front of a medical doctor (a family friend whose husband just happened to be a neurologist) saw me & knew right away what it was.
“God works in mysterious ways” my best friend always says. I agree.
Without the correct treatment & diagnosis, this condition can be misdiagnosed as a mini-stroke, TIA, Mental Illness or worse!

@debjross So very sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, we are alike in that way. My condition is no longer treatable. Medication doesn’t really help much. Meditation, spending time with nature, that helps me a little. How about you? Any special secrets you could share?

@amoreperlamoda I’m going to a neurologist facial disorder. I have brain cancer and from the radiation I’m unable to open my eyes. I get stabbing eye pain. The verve’s are causing migraines that are not able to controlled. I end out taking something to knock me out. Going to a neuro opththalmologist to see if they can do something to help me.

@amoreperlamoda posh helps me pass the time in my dark room as light hurts my eyes and I end up with migraines from the light. I listen to books and listen to music if my head is ok. I hope you have a great day with no migraines 🤞🥰🌻

@debjross Wow! You poor thing. That sounds horrible. Inwill pray for you! It’s multiple medication and nerve injections in skull/neck and shoulders for me. We are strong women, if nothing more. It’s a pleasure to “meet” you! 🤗💕

I too get B shots for Migraines. I have Multiple Sclerosis, and migraines are common, among other tough things.

This is a wonderful thing to do!
I am not afflicted with the same thing as you, but I do have other things going on as well as nerve damage encompassing my entire left arm and hand. I have yet to find anyone that can help. it's frustrating and tiring and hard to keep a nice "I'm fine" face on. I will put you on my prayer list for relief and resolution! 🥰

I been recovering from another back surgery & wouldn’t u know it, I fell & broke several of my toes right before my back surgery. So I’m dealing w/them now. It’s been a mess over my way. But I’m blessed to b alive that’s for sure. Each day is truly a blessing. Sorry for going on. Just wanted to catch up a bit with u & say hello. Prayers my friend. ♥️🙏🏻🤗

Add broken toes (and I feel your pain here…I had one as well and it’s still healing) you must be in pain. Poor thing. You’re on my pray list. Stay strong! Have faith. Believe.

you have a great closet! I just wanted to say that I absolutely love that you are using this platform to help raise awareness!! I just had my first ever migraine with brainstem aura, at 30yo, and we all thought it was a stroke at the time (including the ER doctor). I am incredibly grateful that it wasn't a stroke, but at the same time I'm dreading the possibility of it happening again. it was definitely scary, and dangerous if I had not been at home with my husband when it happened.

@sadieposhmark Today, I see a neurologist at the Jefferson Headache Center (on the level of Hopkins) and they are doing the best to help me. There’s only so much you can do to help people with Hemiplegic Migraines because there hasn’t been enough research. That’s why I’m, at the very least, trying to raise awareness.
