It’s in great condition for being a vintage bag, and i have been very careful with it while I’ve owned it.
It does not have a smell that I can tell, but it does show signs of usage, so look at pics carefully. The canvas on one side of the bag does have a rippling effect, i have just used that as the back. Please let me know if you have questions!

@breealinn2014 you can see it in the second pic, the canvas for some reason has the ripples (you can see towards the right and the parts inbetween the handle). It’s just kind of bumpy
