“Can I buy NEW, authentic Birkenstock’s from a reseller for $60?” Folks: no way, no how. When I started selling Birk’s, I was 1 of, if not the only, active reseller. Now, everyone & their mother are selling “Birkenstock’s”. That would be a normal part of retail EXCEPT, many are fakes, misrepresented, or “fell off a truck”😬. If that works for ya, GREAT! If not, I will detail what to look for & why it may makes sense to spend more for REAL-DEAL authentic Birk’s from a reputable reseller! 🙌🏼👍🏼

Same with the kanken bags. I’ve inquired about a few and been blocked immediately. I really wish the fraudulent sellers were reprimanded more

@alchemythegreat Amen! I hear ya sista! It’s a serious problem.

Thanks for getting this info on Posh! As a reseller & owner of close to 20 pairs I hate seeing the fakes! NEVER in the styles like you’re talking about, but you can find a few NIB & 100% authentic Birks under $60. Discontinueds pop up at Costco once in a blue moon & this only works for Narrow width but I’ve hit some crazy price drops stalking “last remaining pairs” on Amazon (super weird colors but when you *need* ortho support 🤷♀️...)

@artistposhista Hi there! You’re very welcome! 😊 Yeah, what I’m referring to there is purchasing from a reseller—particularly on a platform that takes 20% of sales. Not a wholesaler. If you do the math: a reseller—with ZERO profit—would have to purchase for $48. And we not in the business of zero profits. So to even make $10–they would have to purchase for $38–& that, my friend, isn’t happening; especially leather.

@botablu Oh, absolutely! Those too good to be true listings HAVE to be counterfeit. Sorry if it came off otherwise, I was just sharing some weird places to find Birkenstocks deals for styles that you will NOT see on Posh. Like I did actually once find a real pair retail for $29 & it was STILL only worth buying them for myself not reselling. Uncommon size & the pattern is SO crazy I couldn’t have flipped them for a profit in a million years.

botablu
@artistposhista Yeah, no, you’re good! 😉 I didn’t take it that way. Of course, as you state, there’s always exceptions to rules. It’s tough in these postings too, to cover it all. That’s why in Part I, I made that disclaimer: Tons of rules—some exceptions—& with limited space, I can’t cover it all for sure! Hope it’s helping a bit though. Gotten good feedback. And still tons more to cover—just have to find the time!😁 Really appreciate you reachin out & sharing your thoughts too!

@tradingstyles Hi! Saw your question regarding whether a particular birk is real or fake. I really can’t and don’t want to get in to comments on others’ listings. I would suggest taking everything you’ve taken away from this short series I’ve done; Ask A LOT of questions... and make the best educated determination that you can. If you have a specific question that comes up in doing that, I’m happy to try to address that.

@botablu Thank you for responding. I had a feeling, especially when they were not able to show the foot bed in response to anothers request.

I just purchased some for a little over $30 and they look very authentic? I read all the “love notes” that this person has and everyone seems to be happy with their orders so I’m hoping they’re real.
Apr 11Reply

botablu
@lizzysresale Cool. If they’re new with box—no matter what style—for $30—they either fell off a truck 😉 or they’re not authentic or someone’s just taking a huge loss to get rid of inventory. It’s one of those 3 possibilities.
Apr 11Reply

lizzysresale
@botablu feel off a truck? If I gave you the persons poshmark could you look at them for me?
Apr 11Reply

botablu
@lizzysresale Yes, it’s a nice way of saying stolen merchandise. I won’t comment directly on another’s listing. Always happy to take a look at listings and if I believe they are not authentic, I will flag them for hopefully posh to take care of...
Apr 11Reply

botablu
@lizzysresale Also, love notes can be one source of information, but you have to remember, they’re called “love notes” for a reason: you’re only seeing the positive feedback. I’ve seen sellers with love notes from happy customers & every Birk they were selling was fake. So just something to keep in mind.
Apr 11Reply

lizzysresale
@botablu that’s true, I was just surprised that there were so many. The use is rshep23... I purchased the size 9 rose gold and white Yao birks... thank you and let me know what you think.
Apr 12Reply

botablu
@lizzysresale I like to keep things pretty simple in life: if it quacks like a duck & smells like duck.. it’s probably a duck. Or if something seems to good to be true... it probably isn’t true. Ya know, that kinda simplicity!?...
Apr 12Reply

botablu
@lizzysresale Let’s take your example: NWT Birk’s sold on this platform for $30: which means after Posh’s 20% the seller gets $24. Which means, even if a sellers only making $10/shoe—which is hardly enough to even cover expenses—they’re buying the Birk’s for $14!?? Ridiculous. Therefore, untrue.
Apr 12Reply

lizzysresale
@botablu okay, so let’s say they are fake... can I get my money back? Your thinking they’re fake right? I’m new to poshmark so I was under the impression that that wasn’t allowed, I just thought he like bought in bulk or something.
Apr 12Reply

botablu
@lizzysresale Hun, I’m not making any allegations against anyone. I’m simply saying, if you do the math on any Birk sold on this platform at that price, it raises a lot of questions. And when folks ask for a picture of a box label & only a partial one is provided, it raises yet more questions.
Apr 12Reply

botablu
@lizzysresale And yes, if you purchase anything that you believe is not authentic, do not “accept” it.. but instead, open a case for review.
Apr 12Reply

lizzysresale
@botablu alright will do, thank you for your help.

@botablu hi, I saw someone brought up costco and I just wanted to say they are not an authorized dealer to sell birkenstocks. They were sent a letter from Birkenstock telling them that & that they don't know where they got them or if they're even real.
Apr 29Reply

botablu
@2ndtimescharmmo Hi. Interesting. Thanks for sharing!
Apr 29Reply

2ndtimescharmmo
@botablu no worries! I first read it on reddit last month but there was an article on in the business insider and a couple of other places. Comments said that it says on the website that they arent an authorized dealer but doesnt mean they aren't real. Stay healthy , happy & sane during this stressful time. Enjoy your Wednesday!
Apr 29Reply

botablu
@2ndtimescharmmo Birkenstock holds these “authorized” designations very close to the chest—particularly in the last few years. There are many legitimate & understandable reasons for this. That could be a whole other series! Lol! Anyhow, hope you have a great days too & be well! 🙏🏼

when I thanked you for the real vs. fake birks I forgot to tell you that when I decide to get a pair brand new I will buy from you. I buy pre-loved ones bc I have loved birks for over 40 years and they are practically all I wear. in any case when I decide on new you have earned my business. 😊

this is really great - I am a super hard core thrifter and I once in my haste picked up what looked to be a kids pair. When I got them home they were labelled birkistones. My Bad at least I only paid I think $3 for. ALSO note periodically Costco or Sams club have deals on items like new birki's. The issue is usually 1 color or maybe 2 and one style. I did buy a pair but I think was around $50. So even to "flip" these I would have to charge close to $100 - think will keep - again thanks

Thanks for all your awesome info! Just asked another posher for photo of box and was advised "I have multiple pairs and normally dont do that". When I explained that I was just trying to be sure shoes were authentic, she posted nasty message on my page (not her own) that I was rude for even SUGGESTING her shoes might be fake, and she wouldn't sell to me. Fine with me!😂

@karelbee You’re welcome! Yeah, bad sign! Be great—if you haven’t already—to report that to Posh for, hopefully, them to investigate further.

@botablu I’ve seen a lot of Birks 4sale NWOB. I think they’re walking out with them on their feet w/o stopping 2 pay.I’ve worked in retail for years when we had sales @the end of the day we would find empty boxes and check to see if they were sold and they weren’t. I also made mistake of buying UGGs years ago w/ discount. They were for my 5yr old niece (she was too young to know)but my sister spotted the fak.Lesson learned.
Jun 29Reply

botablu
@delta66dawn Yes, there’s all kinds of ways their obtaining them illegally. And yes, the same is going on with many brands. We sell Ugg’s as well, so very familiar with all the fakes out there with them too.

What if you’re just looking for a gently used pair?
Aug 18Reply

botablu
@kat_if Hi. Sorry, not sure I understand your question. Are you asking about prices of preowned Birks?
Aug 18Reply

kat_if
@botablu Ha! I was searching for my question to delete and restate it. Thanks again for your posts. To clarify, this is regarding “resellers”, though this info can be applied to any Birk purchase. I purchased 2 gently used Birks from here before seeing this. I’ve never owned a pair. Would you recommend asking the the non-resellers if they purchased their Birks from a reputable retail store? I can’t image buying a used knock off, but the questions seems off putting to me.
Aug 18Reply

botablu
@kat_if Not sure I’d see the benefit of asking that. If someone is a bad actor, they’re not going to tell you they are. The only way to ensure you’re purchasing authentic products—of any kind—is to stick with trusted, reputable sellers.
