Valuable Blistered pearl pendant. Also known as a flameball pearl. It came off a very old almost hand made looking necklace from a jewelry lot. Sadly the necklace was destroyed but this part was still salvageable. After asking some people here in the community this is a blistered genuine pearl pendant with a sterling metal loop though it. I am not jewelry expert but it feels real. I hope to find this beautiful piece a new home. These are usually natural pearls.

Hi, To see if it is a real pearl gently rub it against your teeth. If it has a gritty feel it is a real pearl. If it is just smooth(plastic feel) it is not real. Great quick test to do for pearls. As far as the flaking it could possibly be some kind of shell or coating of some sort. Not quite sure.

It could also be a blister pearl pendant.

@daisy216 do you know anything about pearl values and how to price too because I have no idea

@jonnyboywilcox To be honest with you pearls are somewhat tricky. l usually go online to compare prices. There are so many different kinds of pearls. Hard to put a value on them. l wish l was more knowledgeable about them.

It's a blistered pearl. The flaking that you're describing is the nacre. All pearls are nacre produced around either sand that made it's way in (If natural) or a small man made item placed in it (if cultured). The thicker and lustrous nacre equal higher prices. blistered pearls are usually made into pendants and are given a Sterling bale or encased in Sterling. They usually range from 60-$120 but you can find deals for a little cheaper. Hope that helps.

Wow. I learned something here. I have some *ancient* hat pins that look just like this. I just thought they were old and worn. Thank you all!
