Exceptional Antique Parisian Couture Micro Beaded 1920s or 1930’s Art Deco Evening Bag.
Point De Beauvais Embroidery!
This is a quality made elegant beaded evening handbag with a keen visual appeal. The body of this purse appears to be all the same tone of black beads and it is in excellent condition.
The French led the way when it came to elegant beaded evening wear and during the 1930's they excelled in the execution of the Point de Beauvais stitch. These stunning flowers have a delightful array of pink tones, with perhaps a bit of coral pinks as well. The clasp and top of bag is, also, beaded. This bag is lined in black satin, lining might be newer than the purse. A collector's dream!

Point de Beauvais is a French term for a form of tambour embroidery, which is a decorative needlework technique using a hook to create a chain stitch. Point de Beauvais is characterised by its floral motifs, and is said to have become popular in France due to the influence of Madame de Pompadour (1721-1764), the mistress of King Louis XV (1710-1774). This type of work is sometimes called Pompadour embroidery, after her.
