From the moment they met, Scott and Laura Curry were a team, in marriage and in the studio. Inspired by a PBS special on glass blowing, Scott set out to create his own glass blowing studio with what little he had, quickly growing Curry Glass Studio in Bremerton, Washington into a Pacific Northwest art glass powerhouse, with Laura as his beloved assistant. Together they created glass for decades, from small bowls to large draped pieces, often reminiscent of the works of the famous Dave Chihuly. Their pieces are known for their brilliant color and use of precious metals.
This piece is one of the larger styles that the Curry's produced, measuring 9.5" tall and 14.5" at its widest. Blown first as a solid disk of glass, with brilliant cobalt blue at the edges and spruce green and amethyst at the center, it was spiraled with gold bands and speckled with gold leaf, before gravity was allowed to take hold and pull it into its ruffled, handkerchief shape. It almost seems to glow from within, the colors are so vivid! It would look stunning lit from behind, or with a small light inside or underneath.
This piece is signed and dated, made in 2002. It is in excellent condition, with no visible defects. It weighs 5 pounds 12 oz and due to this, plus its size, cannot be bundled.
