Is the watch currently running with the battery, or does the battery need to be installed? Can I wear it around the neck with the current chain, or would I need to add another chain? I've never worn a pocket watch as a necklace before. Thank you!

Yes, it can be worn as a necklace with the existing chain. it's a fairly long chain so some people may choose to swap it out with something smaller.
