They stop the wind. They are UPF 50+. The knee & lower leg is a stretchier material, but all of them are 4 way stretch- you can MOVE in these. Easy to squat or scramble over bolders on heartier hikes. Nice deep front pockets, rear pockets with snap flap, Adjust size tighter inside with an elastic draw to tighten the waist. wide belt loops, sturdy & great for outdoors, non fashion belts.
