This is a beautiful Cambodian seated Buddha statue in brown wood with excellent detail. This is unique and one of a kind. It is hand carved and in perfect condition with lovely details--see photos.
Height: 6 1/2", Width: 3 1/2", Depth: 1 3/4 inches
I purchased it in Siem Reap, Cambodia at a craft store. It is a beautiful example of the seated buddha. His long ears, robe and hair style are all representative of buddhist sculpture that were not made until around the first century AD or CE. This is a style of statue that has been reproduced all over the world to show respect to the Buddha’s learning and enlightenment. You can see similarities in this style of buddha and ancient Greek art due to the conquests of Alexander the Great.
His hands are in the mudra (Sanskrit word for hand gesture) of meditation--dhyana. Mudra are depicted in Buddhist art and in practice to evoke a state of mind. Specifically, this is called the Dhyan Mudra. This mudra helps to calm the mind for meditation and is used for deep contemplation and reflection. The mudra of meditation is a characteristic gesture of the Buddha Shakyamuni.
