In "The Hearts of Men" Barbara Ehrenrich, a political activist & feminist, delves into the constricting gender roles & its effect on marriage in America. This work is unique in the sense Ehrenrich details why men rejected this confining role due to economic pressure & unrealistic demands placed on the male gender as "heads of household."
Ehrenrich gives an illuminating take on the mindset behind the Man in the Grey Flannel Suit in this work. "The Hearts of Men" stands out as its focus is on why men rejected role. This is not something I had pondered prior to this work.
One note: Ehrenrich strictly focuses on gender. The complexities that arise when race is involved is not addressed by Ehrenrich here.
Still, interesting & recommended read.

This is a great book. I wrote a paper about it in college.
