Sterlingwear of Boston Anchor Collection pea coat in traditional black wool blend with gold tone buttons. Double-breasted. Convertible collar. Labeled inside pocket: Navy peacoat M21 authentic. 8 gold tone buttons marked "USMS" for United States Maritime Service. Buttons have an anchor with the laurel wreath. Buttons made by Waterbury Button Co. in Connecticut. Two front pockets. One inside pocket. 80% wool 20% nylon. Lining is nylon fleece with a satin yoke and sleeves. Note close up photo of some pilling on inside nylon fleece lining. Dry clean only. I had this dry cleaned. Good pre-owned condition, but there is some light wear with some pilling. See close up of button hole on one lapel with some loose thread. Size marked is 40R. Approximate lay-flat measurements: Armpit to armpit: 19.75" Length:29.75" Sleeve, measured from seam at bottom of shoulder to cuff: 23.5" One company noted the line as "trim" fit and trim in shoulders and torso and recommended ordering a size larger for regular fit. Made in the US by Sterlingwear of Boston. The company is no longer in production. Sterlingwear of Boston was the official manufacturer of US Navy Peacoat beginning in 1968. Sterlingwear has stitched tens of thousands of coats for the Navy and used the same specs for the civilian models, using 10-12 stitches per inch to ensure a tight bond between parts of the fabric. The fabric was always 80% virgin wool with 20% nylon for added strength and durability.
