1 of a Kind Authentic Vintage 1960's Handpainted-Wicker Garden-Cottage Handbag

A true treasure -- one-of-a-kind handpainted Sixties wicker "Garden Cottage" handbag with loop closure, slanting roof and "windows" in front. When Jane Birkin wore her wicker-basket handbag it became the rage in Paris. Birkin's wicker basket led to the creation of Hermes' Birkin bag when its contents fell in front of Jean Louis Dumas -- director of Hermes -- sitting next to her on a plane. Jane told Dumas she'd love a BIG leather bag to hold lots of "stuff" like her basket. Dumas made that bag and now it's history. This handpainted white and pink garden basket -- made in the Sixties -- holds lots of stuff and takes the Birkin basket a step further with the charming handpainted pastel garden around the bottom of the bag. The handle is stationery and the inside is unlined. In very good condition -- the little bit of wear on the paint adds to the authenticity as this is not a copy or a reproduction.
