Can you please show a photo of the back of the hat with the band? I don't quite understand how the adjustable metal prongs connect or tie.

@mishellily If you look at the last pictures, it shows the hooks on the inside of the band that lock into the hat. The hooks are covered with a white cap for protection, but you remove them when attaching to the hat. I hope this helps.
