Aaliyah’s third and final LP, issued less than two months before her tragic death in an airplane crash, builds on the color and confidence of her chart-topping 2000 single “Try Again” — pairing the singer’s smooth R&B hooks with production that hits harder and occasionally wanders to weirder places. Timbaland brings a few top-shelf beats, including “We Need a Resolution,” where Aaliyah’s voice coils like a snake around crackling handclaps and a woozy clarinet sample.
