They came that way as some espadrilles do . I buy directly from Toms website. Stitching still firmly in place... see pics. If you are a 7-1/2--8, you might find these have toe space. I wouldn't risk it. 8 - 8 -1/2 -- perfect. I have several pairs of Toms and this is the only pair that fit that way. Not sloppy fit but definitely a bit more toe room.
