The Little Sydney Pottery Australia Hand Painted Koala Plate Wall Hanging Vtg
Little Sydney Pottery was founded by Lisalottte (Lilo) and Wladyslaw (Bill) Pakulski. The couple emigrated to Australia from Germany in 1949, eventually settling in Sydney. Their involvement with pottery began when Lilo started working at Diana as a decorator. (She had studied art in Germany, majoring in textile design.) In 1953, Lilo helped to establish the Anna Studio then, in 1955, the couple bought an old home in Rockdale and set up the Little Sydney Pottery, making their own slipcast models and doing their own decoration. At the height of the Rockdale years the Little Sydney Pottery was producing eighty different items including souvenir ware, coffee sets, beer mugs and table lamps. Business began to fall off during the 1960s, with Japanese imports having a deleterious affect on the local market, and the pottery closed in 1970. The couple moved to Woonona near Wollongong. Although now retired, they sold a small range under the Woonona Pottery label from 1985-2000. This information comes mostly from Dorothy Johnston's The People's Potteries, 2002, pp. 84-86
