They are not a square size, so swaddling with them was difficult for us. Wouldn't recommend for that use. The flannel isn't super soft at first, but it softens with each wash. I will say that these are very sturdy and will hold up to repeated washings. Great for if you have a baby that's a spitter or as an eco-friendly option to protect your changing pad.
