Beautiful! Gift yourself this statement-making Enid Collins Glitterbugs tote, a rare find, in near mint, excellent vintage condition. Perfect for a collector. NWOT. Never been used by its first owner or second owner (me) and it's a 1966 bag! Clean, inside and out. Canvas perfect. All jewels and brass castings attached and in excellent condition. Saddle leather in great shape, with some tiny minor creases on leather fastener strap at bend, the result of its 60-year provenance. Moisturize and polish to invisibility. Date and Collins' trademark running horse clear in interior. Interior zip pocket and open pocket. EC copyright symbol on exterior. These old bags have some stiffness that loosens with use.
I am a fashion scholar-professor and have written about Collins' box bags, presenting about them at an international conference (Oxford University). Enid Collins was a remarkable woman and entrepreneur, a mid-century arts & crafts designer who invented these bags to support her family. She had a unique aesthetic sense and sense of humor. Her bejeweled bags with saddle leather trim were first sold exclusively at the Neiman Marcus flagship store in Texas. High end! See photos and websites.
Glitterbugs has been in my closet since I acquired it as its second owner in 2010. I am downsizing and this beauty needs a new home. Hard to part but I must say adieu!

With so much knowledge of Mrs. Collins; do you know what bag was Her favorite? What bag is your favorite? What bag is the rarest? And what bag is the most sought after? Thank you in advance for your consideration!

I like the humor and fanciful creations of both the totes and the box bags. Particularly like the early one and one of my favorites is the black Parvan, 🦚 peacock box bag.
