This is a vintage Williams-Sonoma hand-painted pitcher with a "Chicken" design. Made in Italy of fully glazed earthenware and handpainted in the Deruta style. 28-oz. cap.; 8 1/2" high. A Williams Sonoma exclusive. There is a story that a wealthy Medici landowner was saved from assassination by chickens making noise. It is a common Italian tradition to give the pitcher as a housewarming gift to protect the owners from trespassers and danger.
