MMA Akan (Ghana) Goldweight Necklace
This necklace has a very interesting story. From the enclosed pamphlet:
"For centuries, Ghana has been one of the world's leading producers of gold. In the 15th century, Muslim traders from the north introduced the Islamic system of units for weighing gold dust or nuggets. These early brass weights were geometric in form, in the shape of a square or rectangle with a design on one side...... crossed lines, zigzag, comb patterns...."
These are the patterns in these beads. "Unique and lively, our adaptations are plated in silver.. and feature Jasper beads."
Length is about 23"
