Stunning Vintage Bernice Goodspeed Sterling Silver Oval Abalone Shell Brooch Pin with necklace Pendant Bale! Gorgeous Abalone Shell set in an Oval bezel with Braided edging surrounded by a Fantastic Swirl pattern Filigree. Eagle mark 28, Hecho en Mexico, Sterling 925 Has expected visible signs of wear, with naturally developed patina, but is in beautiful condition considering age. Please see photos/video for best description, condition, and measurements. *Photos have been enlarged to show detail. Having spent part of my day researching (for a completely different item) I only just so happened across new information I found relevant to THIS particular piece. I have come to learn that Eagle Mark 28 is almost adamantly associated with Bernice Goodspeed who opened her shop in Taxco alongside her husband in 1938 (operated till her passing 1971). B.G's most familiar mark is an encircled 'B' with either Eagle mark 3, Eagle 28, 38 or just the number '38' and not all of her work was marked with a 'B'. Now- to maintain integrity, and transparency. There is a reference source that suggests Eagle 28 is also associated with Artist initials RAF and JFCM. I went further down the rabbit hole... There's a possibility this piece was JFCM- (Based on similar design) however, it should be noted-JFCM pieces are generally marked with an Eagle 50 and Guadalajara (Jalisco) and other artists have created similar designs as well... more info continued in comments if interested V0411B7283

ameryjs I've tried digging further to find out who the initials JFCM and RAF belong to and have not yet been successful. 🤔 Possible apprenticeship? Possible Borrowing? Is it possible that Eagle mark 28 and 38 were registered to Bernice's shop. Over the years her shop expanded to a point where she was the head designer with about 20 other silver smiths working under her.

ameryjs There are many possibilities, and it's not likely anyone will ever know with exact certainty who created what. We can only put together the bits and pieces of information that are available from many different sources.
