Skóra Marfa was founded in June of 2020 by Bogusia Golecka. Bogusia's vision was to create a company that not only creates beautiful and functional products, but also respects the environment and celebrates craftsmanship. She set out to design products for people who attribute more value to the product creation process and the high-quality materials used within, rather than simply defaulting to the latest trends regardless of the process or materials. Skóra Marfa is committed to sourcing sustainable materials, with an intentional preference to our domestic market. Skóra Marfa sources vegetable tan leather from the oldest tanneries in the US. It’s called “vegetable” because of the natural, plant-derived tannins used in the tanning process. Each product is hand-crafted in small batches in our tiny studio in Marfa, Texas. Skóra Marfa strives to produce each leather product sustainably. After a very careful analysis of available leather in the US market; it was decided to craft each leather product with the highest quality vegetable-tanned leather. Each hide that is sourced is minimally processed, creating natural deviations across the product line. No two Skóra Marfa leather products are the same and natural marks and small color differences are to be expected. Vegetable tanning is a centuries-old process which preserves the natural look of the leather, while adding depth to the color. The organic nature of the leather makes it the most biodegradable of all leathers.
