I have a great collection of creative Kokeshi dolls for sale, please check out my other listings (and see the last photo). This is an unsigned Creative Kokeshi doll. She has a large sleeve shiny red kimono and an unlacquered shield with a landscape on it. Very pretty! her hair has a large hair pin sticking out of the top. Artist: unknown Type: Sosaku Kokeshi, known for creative designs Material: Wood, hand-painted Era: Likely 80s-90s Measurements: 5.5” high x 3.5” wide (at widest point) Condition: Very good condition. Only call out is that you can see glue at the edges where the sleeves were attached. But the glue is painted over. (see photo of me holding the doll.) About: A Kokeshi doll is a traditional Japanese wooden doll originating from the Tohoku region in the 19th century. Key characteristics include: Handmade from wood, often sun-dried and polished. Simple design with a round head and cylindrical body, lacking arms and legs. Faces, clothing and decorations are painted directly onto the doll. Originally toys for children, they are now collected as ornaments, gifts, and souvenirs. Some believe they hold spiritual significance and can protect children. Kokeshi doll makers have signed their work since the 1950s.
