Barkcloth, or kapa, is a durable fabric with an important history in Native Hawaiian culture. Traditional kapa is made of wauke (mulberry) tree bark; modern versions often use cotton. It features bold plant dye prints and was used for purposes ranging from home furnishing to ceremonial use. Today it’s popular for durable, colorful clothing; vintage barkcloth is highly collectible around the world!
