I'm selling an Antique Coffee Percolator Pres by Brd Div of The Somech Noflen Lad Assn 1921. Presented by Board/Division of the Somech Noflen Ladies Association. Very Rare!
“Somech Noflen” (more commonly spelled Somech Noflim) is a Hebrew phrase meaning “supporting the fallen,” known from the Jewish liturgy where God is described as somech noflim, v’rofei cholim (“supporter of the fallen and healer of the sick”). It was almost certainly a small Jewish women’s charitable/mutual‑aid group in Philadelphia.
In the 1920s it was very common for mutual‑aid and fraternal societies to give household goods (like silver pieces, serving sets, or appliances) as prizes at fundraising events, as thank‑you gifts to officers, or as presentation pieces at banquets, so the percolator was almost certainly a commemorative or honorific gift tied to such an event, rather than a sign that coffee service itself was their core mission.
