VINTAGE Handmade Southwest Native American Sterling Silver and Turquoise Earrings. Hallmarked by artist, “D P” (Navajo artist DAVE PINO) and stamped “Sterling.” VINTAGE. Likely KINGMAN turquoise. I purchased these in early 1990’s while driving the Turquoise Trail from Albuquerque to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Native American handmade earrings featuring matched turquoise stones. Classic with nice design along edge of stones. Sterling Silver. Navajo. For pierced ears. A little more than 1” long and about .75” wide. Oval in shape. 2nd & 3rd photos accurately depict the color of the stones which are more blue in hue than green.
Turquoise is the birthstone of December. It is believed that turquoise tends to bring good fortune, strength and helps overcome illness. Turquoise got its name from the Levantine traders called Turks who brought the stone to Europe from Persia via Turkey centuries ago. Native Americans have prized turquoise since the time of the Aztecs, who mined it in New Mexico. The natural variations that occur in turquoise are part of its appeal and beauty.
